  1. Let's sign Tim Patrick right now. He's what we need to compliment RJ Roman Tyhre Aeron and co.

I agree. Need a tall WR to compliment our smaller guys in McGill and Carr. Also, Mayo is a promising looking prospect. NEED cornerbacks!

Let's get both of them aboard!

    Go Sioux!

  2. People need to realize that its going to get worse before it gets better. They are starting from scratch with this roster. There is zero depth along the offensive line and when you want to get back to running the ball, that is not a good thing. I am afraid they are going to have to take their lumps next year, kind of like USD did in Glenn's first year, and just get the scheme's installed and slowly work in players that can actually run them effectively.

I honestly don't agree. When we decided to run the ball, like in 2012 vs. Sacramento State, we could run the ball. It's a matter of will and intention when it comes to running the ball. We'll end up with good offensive linemen - it's a product of recruiting Minnesota and Wisconsin. And our throw the ball all-the-time mindset caused horrible turnover ratios. I think we'll see improvements in turnover ratio, penalties, and defense next season because that can only get better, and as a result, I think we'll do better than last year and win more than 3 games. I've been optimistic before, but I think because last year was so bad, the only direction to go is now up. I say anywhere from 4 to 6 wins next season. Year 2 of the Bubba era is the year to get excited about.

  3. Two big winners of the offseason that I can see from the prospectus. Dustin Iverson put on 25 lbs. He's now 6'3" 250 and athletic. Will Ratelle put on 15 lbs and was top 5 in the 40.

And I'm sure both will be heavily utilized this upcoming season. Iverson with the 22/21 personnel sets and Ratelle's athleticism in bringing pressure.

  4. Bubba also gave a good reminder for everyone that implementing a new offensive and defensive system will be a big challenge.

This team would have its work cut out for them if they were returning to a system with responsibilities they were already familiar with, let alone learning new ones.

I'll have to keep that in mind as I watch them this spring and fall camp.

One at least has to believe it will be a system that works. Offensively its time to run the football and go with boots and nakeds off of that to utilize the athleticism of Mollberg. None of this "throw the football the whole game" crap. Also, it will be nice to see us pressure a bit more because our secondary has been EXPOSED over the past few seasons.

  5. I share your optimisim, but it is worth noting Bubba has won exactly zero games here. Whether or not we think he's on the right track or not is a matter of pure speculation, and we afforded Muss and Jones that same same bit of rope prior to hanging himself with it.

If Muss had taken 2nd place in the BSC, he would still have his job. I'm not sure I've seen anyone make the case why Jones should be fired for those results. Lots of style of play and intangible arguments, but bottom line it was a good season and a good group of players.

With no games being played, the players are already supporting UND athletics better and are very optimistic. I'll take that as a good sign. Add in the recruiting class given the shortened recruiting period and the staff's experience and philosophy, and I believe were in better hands. Will it be good enough? We won't know until games are played.

My issue with Jones is he can't win out of conference or on the road. If you can't win OOC games or road games, it will be difficult to win the Big Sky, especially if the tournament is on the road. UND's men basketball teams have been inconsistent and I directly attribute that to Jones' coaching.

  6. I fault both Brian Jones and Brian Faison for the mess that UND athletics, with the exception being hockey, has been in for the past decade. Until pressure was actually put on Faison to fire Mussman, he didn't even consider it. Now that Bubba has been hired, the program is finally moving in the right direction. As far as basketball, stop waiting for the 'right' moment and just fire Jones and get someone in here that can get the job done. I can GUARANTEE you Jones will never win a Big Sky championship, so all were doing is allowing for more wasted seasons. Brewster is a good basketball coach and the success can be seen. In the areas of football and men's basketball though, the coaching as been unorganized and sporadic at best. Thankfully Bubba is now helping out the football side of things and cleaning up Mussman's mess. Faison isn't as aggressive as I'd like him to be; nevertheless, he'll eventually be forced into firing Jones.

  7. Had a good conversation with a couple of people in the program today. They talked about how much more organized the new staff is and how clear Bubba's vision is. It's rubbing off on the players and it's basically what they were waiting for from Mussman.

Mussman lacked leadership, as I always warned. Thankfully Bubba and his staff know how to lead and they are passionate. Plus, you have to love the blue-collar run the ball and blitz philosophy they are implementing.

  8. UND football in our worst years has not thought they are second rate to anyone. I don't believe UND can decide where NFL scouts want to hold their pro days. NFL scouts attend UND practices and events all of the time. Why would that affect whether or not you contribute to the program? Doesn't make sense. My son-in -law has been in the NFL 11 yrs. in speaking with coaches or team officials over the years they will go where they need to in order to evaluate talent. They will also tell you or your agent where to go for pro days. According to the news paper, Williams from the Ag school attended a pro day in MSP. Pro scouts will get to campus but to have a pro day, they need to coordinate their visits. They are going change their plans cuz UND, NDSU, Mayville State or anyone else says we have a nice facility show up on this day. Flights in and out of the site and the pro days at other schools also affect the schedule.

In all seriousness, I will never stop contributing to the program. I have already invested too much and I am a very proud UND alum. The DI success in men's bball and football for NDSU relative to UND has just been really frustrating to endure. Hoping this fall is the start of something different - for the better of course.

  9. Its not UNDs choice, quit spazzing out. There is not enough prospects to take up a whole day of the scouts time. It happens alot across the country.

Spazzing out? I'm pretty sure that was unwarranted. And yes, UND could host its own pro day. With the new IPF coming up, I'd like to see some pro days there. Just arrange it and scouts will come.

  11. We need to step our game up....

UND should host their own pro day. Going to NDSU is an absolute embarrassment. It makes me want to not contribute to the program. Why contribute dollars to UND football if they deliberately think they are second-rate to NDSU football.

  12. We beat NDSU by 20 because they played terrible and Braun tried to be a one man show. It was not an indication that we were that much better. Play them 10 times and that's the only result of that nature.

Because they played horrible? So you're sticking up for NDSU? C'mon ...we beat them fair and square. In Fargo, we would've lost by 20 ourselves.

Need to play our best game of the season to beat Weber.

  13. UND is not playing good basketball right now. It's frustrating to watch. NDSU making the NCAA tournament is apart of that frustration. We beat NDSU by 20, so that certainly illustrates we have the potential to get through this tournament relatively easy and get to the NCAA tournament. However, the problem is effort and focus. The NDSU game motivates players itself; after that, this team has been disappointing and Jones has been apart of that.

  14. I am interested to see what Palandech has at spring practice. Based on what I saw last year QB is wide open. I want him to get a strong look.

The job will again come down to Mollberg and Bartles. Palendech isn't as talented as those two; just that simple in my opinion.

  15. Uh, the two bolds are backs, big backs ... who didn't play last year because I thought the guys who did play are fast and the big backs were too slow, ... uh ... math ... not ... working.

Just another head-scratcher from the Mussman era....

  16. @nbaukol: Unofficial Top 5 40: Carr, A, Shaugabay, Palandech, Varner, Ratelle. #undfootball #daybyday

Expect big things from Carr and Ratelle next year. Carr almost had his shirt pulled last year despite the presence of Hardin, Golladay, and Jackson. Bubba loves speed at his LB positions and Ratelle recording a top 5 40 is spectacular. With Schmidt coaching him up, Ratelle could do some big things next fall.
