  1. Ivery may move back to wr. It'd be in everyone's best interest if he did. So hopefully Ivery McGill Bridges and Young. Not much size.... We need at least one 6'3 wr out there.

Carr will likely see more playing time than Ivery and Bridges. Freund is high on Carr and he almost had his redshirt pulled last year even with Hardin, Jackson, and Golladay on the roster.

  2. As far as offensive line, the only lock I see is Brandon Anderson at left guard. Walker should be slated at center, but you never know. He'll have competition. Look for Dan Bell to lock up a spot.

As far as skill positions, WR will include McGill, Young, Carr, and Bridges.

Simmons will likely will start at RB, with Sharp spelling him. Sounds like Sharp will overtake Garman, Sparks, and Shaugabay on the depth chart due to raw ability.

As UNDColorado eluded to though, an FBS transfer to both the WR and RB groups would be preferable.

  3. What kind of o-line scheme does Bubba like to use, a zone scheme or more of a power blocking one?

Bubba is indifferent I'm sure, but the OC Rudolph will use both blocking schemes according to the live chat that was held on national signing day.

Rudolph's system sounds to be a textbook multiple offense with an emphasis on running the ball and controlling time of possession.

  4. Anyone have any speculation on starting QB for this season, or will it likely be the same flip flop battle we saw last season?

That flip flop crap wont happen - I can guarantee it. The better QB in fall camp will start the season and it will be his job to lose. There's gonna be a whole new offense with Coach Rudolph, so either one of them (Bartels or Mollberg) could come out on top. It really will be like last fall all over again - true competition where either QB could win the job!

If I had to speculate who will win it, I would go with Mollberg. Rudolphs want to run the ball via multiple formations; that means 22 and 21 personnel that features downhill power plays and shotgun/pistol formations that include read option plays. Ultimately, that best fits the athletic ability and big, strong frame of Mollberg. Of course, most predicted Mollberg would win last fall and it didn't happen, so this really could go either way still. Will be a fun competition to watch, and the multiple formation running game that Rudolph is implementing will help out the team tremendously!

  5. It's not the media's job to brown nose anybody; I seriously hate that stuff. But Mr. Reality Check's (Tom Miller's) article today was a bit of a cheap shot on a coach and a staff who have been on the job for just a little over a month, are announcing their very first recruiting class today and haven't even coached a single game yet. I am all for constructive criticism, but wait until there is something to actually criticize. And Miller shouldn't insinuate that the new regime will necessarily fail like the old one did; we won't know that for several years.

The thing is, if I don't believe a regime can bring us an FCS National Championship, I won't be happy. The staff hasn't even been in place for a month and already some are trying to say we won't fare any better than we did with Mussman? That's ridiculous and, quite frankly, unnecessarily stomps the hype and excitement that makes supporting the University of North Dakota so exciting. I want to cheer and support this team on to Frisco (or wherever the NC is played) and there doesn't need to be negative interjection right now. I WANT to believe this staff will give us a NC, and right now I have no reason to believe that won't happen - can't it remain like that until at least this fall?

  6. So now you want the duckies and bunnies? Maybe he is just trying to head off unrealistic expectations that fans create. There are already people that think these recruits are automatically going to turn things around in a hurry. Sure a culture change will help immensely, but chances are it is going to take multiple recruiting classes that are successes to get us where we want to be. Call it cold water, but some fans need to tone down their expectations.

Just like how this class was only going to have only 15 commits and be a disaster? So when we exceed those expectations now and receive nearly 30 commits, we have to start a new form of pessimism? How ridiculous. If Mussman and his staff had one month to recruit, they'd be lucky to have 10 commits worth a d*mn.

The last part of Miller's article pisses me off. He states: "However, no amount of highlight videos and high school accolades and statistics released today can tell us if the Bubba era will be any stronger than the Mussman era in the long run."

Although I agree a recruiting class should only be judged a few years down the road, why make the statement that Bubba's era may be no better than Mussman's? If the Bubba era is no better, that implies we'll suffer 5 more years of losing. H*ll with that!!

First off, our OC and DC have head coaching and FCS experience, respectively. Next, we have considerable FCS/FBS experience with the position coaches of the staff. I like where this is headed. Of course, in all reality, the real evaluation will come this fall when the games are played, and we need to be patient considering the youth of the roster. W-L record should not be the indicator this season, but rather competitiveness and discipline.

  7. Might need to re-consider how hard they recruit Michigan. A fair amount of these kids do not want to leave the state/area. They couldn't care less what level they play. Gotta get a feel for that early and leave them alone.

    C'mon - that's not a Michigan thing, that's particular to each individual.

Michigan is relatively close, is considered Midwest, and is loaded with talent. To leave that state after this recruiting class would be downright foolish.

  8. Very impressive group of recruits. Given the numbers and simple probability, you would at least expect some of these recruits to pan out. Really impressed by Bubba's first mark on the program as head coach. Now we just have to see if the team responds this fall and if Bubba & his staff can coach as well as they can recruit.

  9. Anyone know if the athletic department is doing an all morning chat like they have in the past with different coaches taking questions? Was very enjoyable in the past and would hope they are doing it again.

Definitely hoping for this. Would be a great way to get to know the new coaching staff and their philosophies.

  10. Cedric Simmons has committed to UND, per SFI.

That's great! Along with PJ Sparks, Adam Shaugabay, and Patrick Sharp, we should have a nice stable of backs for next season! Also, we may still have a RB commit we won't know about until tomorrow.

  11. didn't know where to put this or if it has been said before, but i saw that Javen Butler ran the 60m at one of UND's recent track meets (i think it was in iowa or somewhere).. its good to see guys like that trying to get faster and stronger

Under Bubba's tutelage, I think it's quite safe to say we're going to see a Javen Butler we've never seen before. Apart of that may simply be maturity as he will be a junior next season, but he has the tools to be an all-conference performer, so I hope he can put it all together and do some big things for UND next fall!

  12. Garrett Bollant@Gllant1321 13m

I will be attending the University of North Dakota next year!

The kid is only 160 lbs. He's most likely a walk-on if he's going to play at all. He doesn't appear to be a DI RB in my opinion. We've had enough undersized, poor RBs in the past few seasons for me to be patient with the position.

Alright I was looking for a RB!

I wouldn't get too excited - he isn't the kind of talent we need to facilitate a power running game. We need talented workhorse running backs!

  13. Add a really good RB prospect and I will be very impressed with this class; perhaps Cedric Simmons?

If we don't get a RB prospect, then I will hold out hope that we acquire an FBS transfer. We need to pound that rock to win championships!

  14. Anyone know anything about Mikey Daniel? He appears to be a RB from Florida but I think he is originally from Brookings, SD and recently moved back. He has been favoriting some of Maurice's tweets.

Edit: I found this article on him http://terryvandrove...-heading-to-img And it appears he is class of 2015.

    www.terryvandrovec.tumblr.com/post/53746214163/brookings-prospect-heading-to-img

Appears he just moved back; he is a good looking junior prospect because he graduates in 2015.

  15. I don't know if every FBS transfer will have the same results Hansen had but it appears that route may be taken at a few positions.

Hoping for good news on Ezra and Simmons today or tomorrow. Of the kids I know we have had in, those are two fairly high targets. All in all the staff did a real nice job recruiting with the limited time they had. They had a month to evaluate current team needs and potential recruits.

No offense to Jake Miller, but he simply wasn't DI material. After struggling through and watching our ridiculous 160 lbs RBs (Miller and German) the last couple seasons, a 200 + FBS transfer RB would be a welcome sight. We need to bring physicality and play-making ability back to the tailback spot!
