Bottom line is UND football still fully controls their destiny.
-
You’re right. After his first 9 seasons (1997-2005) at SDSU, his best season was 8-3 in 1999. Also, for what it’s worth, although SDSU has a very good team this year, I’m not sure copying them is the best blueprint. They’ve won just as many FCS national championships as UND football.
-
Fair point. But when is the expectation going to be to win the MVFC? When does that time come? Honestly, I think apathy is a component here. Not entirely, but it’s present. At some point, there’s no better time than the present. With Bubba for the past 9 seasons, we’ve just kept kicking the can down the road, waiting for someone to gift us rather than us taking it ourselves.

After the snafu yesterday during the intro video, I figured the team would !@#$ the bed - it was only fitting. And I agree with @geaux_sioux, the team takes on the attitude of the head coach. Bubba let his team down in the second half. Not all his fault, but certainly shares some of it. Comes with the title of head ball coach.

6-5: out 7-4: in 8-3: definitely in, would be ranked top 20 with NDSU win
-
Many areas that can be improved still, no doubt. Laziness and ineptitude continues to be a concern.
-
Go 7-4 and UND is in. Beat Fargo U and go 8-3 and UND is definitely in. I do worry about the next 3 games, though; Bubba ball has proven we likely will slip up somewhere down the line and go 6-5, missing the playoffs and continuing mediocrity. We will see. I’ll be supporting the squad down the road. Will you all? (I expect the answer to be yes, given the audience on this forum is the diehards, but the fair weather fans need more).

3rd quarter was trash. Blame starts and ends there. UND had a great opportunity, but needs to improve in order to cash in. Still opportunity this season, as you say. Players, coaches, and even the fan base needs to step up, support and expect a winning championship program, and put their money where their mouth is. That’s my 2 cents. Go Hawks!
-
Agree with all of this except the last line. A win over the #1 team would’ve been way more fun.
-
It’s a miracle!! We should be celebrating [sarcasm]

UND defense in second half was outmatched, yes, but UND offense giving the ball away and UND defense not taking the ball away hurt. I think it is as much on UND not getting the job done as it is SDSU being a talented team and getting the job done. UND showed in the first half they have the players to get it done if they execute. Ultimately too many mistakes. Sloppy ugly second half performance.
-
Too many Turnovers. Major missed opportunity … again. Rinse and repeat. Regression to the mean. We are who we are with the current setup. On to ACU on 10/29/22…
-
Ouch. That sucked. Way too many turnovers for UND. Defense couldn’t contain SDSU. That game, particularly the second half, sucked. UND still isn’t top tier, which was the question. It’s been answered. Way of the land under Bubba.

Let’s not spill the beans too much here. And let’s also not overthink it. Danny will have plenty of things dialed up. Ultimately going to come down to execution, anyways.
-
Have less turnovers and penalties than SDSU. That’ll do it. Crowd noise a factor in both - LET’S GO! lastly, be quiet when UND is on offense (including the band!), be crazy when UND is on defense. A true home-field advantage is one with smart fans.
-
You’re referring to 2019. UND won 16-12. Montana State was ranked #9 in that game.
-
Turnover and penalties, like all games. Which is why UND has a great opportunity due to being at home AND coming off a bye week. Now just need to show up and execute. Plenty of eyes will be on the game tomorrow, being it has the #1 team in it. Time to take the next step, or else be considered the status quo. Let’s go …

They got the win. Did just enough, but I’ll never say giving up 38 points is “playing very well”. One play here or there and UND loses. UND did go on to two more victories that season, both blowout wins. And how were they awarded? A playoff selection snub in lieu of Bob Nielson’s sh*tty Western Illinois team …
-
UND defense struggled in that game. Made it very close: 44-38 final. On the flip side, UND offense looked good. One of the few with Rudolph in charge. Santiago, Oliveira, and Clive Georges all with a big game.

In what way? - new facility upgrades beyond Memorial Village and HPC phase 2? - new seating options at the Alerus Center for football? End-zone and/or catwalk seating? - new marketing opportunities for UND football? New Alerus Center gameday ops? - finite plans to increase football and basketball coaching salary pool? - UND athletics planning to actually manage their ticket revenue in full or continue to let REA, inc. commandeer UND athletics?
-
Walk ups always play a big role. But UND marketing and Alerus Gameday Ops aren’t doing much on their part to enhance that number … winning and big games can only do so much, but both of those areas are checked for tomorrow … let’s see what it brings. My guess is a good crowd (10,000) but not a sell out which is what good marketing and gameday ops can bring you.

If true, good to hear. As I stated above, this makes the most sense. Big game in Grand Forks for the football program, and Chaves needs to recognize that.

It’s in the context of sports. Shame on you for trying to deviate from that.
