After the Athletic Department's annual income from sports, take the cost (let's say one year prorated out of the life of a facility) of constructing sports buildings (minus the donations received to help build them); and costs of: facilities maintenance and preventive maintenance, rent in some cases, scholarships and FCOA (less donations), modernization, utilities, insurance, police protection, support staff, parking, equipment, uniforms, and on and on, add in athletic department offices and personal, coaches and support staff, and whatever else there could be, is it even possible to break even in a year? Are there other donations involved?

at the betty i bet that adds up to close to a MILLION dollars a year...i swear there is 1 officer for every 5 fans at the betty!!! trim the fat

Yup. This isn't hockey using a computer system. This is a smoke filled room with guys printing off a bunch of message board polls. If all the team's above UND keep winning (including UND) they'll just stay in the same position (even if they beat up on each other because they'll use that as a strength of schedule vs UNDs).

especially if those guys in the smoke filled rooms have personal ties to mr. bob neilson...which is the reason why we were left out.

Jack Michaels does radio for football (very well) so the tv contract has nothing to do with him. Katie does fine and is well connected, she's not going anywhere unless she chooses to. Jake is still struggling but is better than he was at least (he's no worse than Kober).

not saying that one anyone is not doing their job well...just time for a fresh start maybe?  and yes we all know how well "connected" Katie is.

Oh, c'mon. Don't you think that games against USD, SDSU, NDSU, and Denver would be more interesting to the average UND fan than any of the Big Sky schools?

we already play them non-conf...and "fans" still don't show up. the ndac is the only school that moves the needle thats why whatever happens und the ndac need to make up and realize they are inthis together because of our (ndac included) "outlier" status for any conference.

  5. how about we "punish" just one team (mens hockey) and go back to the ole WCHA and save all that money on travel and whatnot and "spare" all the other programs from having to play uipui, oofeyi, and western illinois (if they are still around in five years)?

Hyslop pool had ~$500,000 in work done to its filtration system in the last few years.  New starting blocks were just purchased (within the last 18 months, ~$30,000).  Hyslop pool remains as one of best aquatic facilities in the area despite its age.  It is the fastest pool around.

they also put a decent amount of work into kraft field knowing that it would be cut soon...not good planning

Why does it cost UND over $2 million to use REA? I thought all these concerts, tennis matches, HS tournaments, circuses, etc. were supposed to help pay the operating expenses for the arena? I thought Ralph built this arena to benefit UND and give our programs a distinct advantage compared to everyone else with regard to financial resources? Honest questions, as I can't make sense of it all.

i've wanted to know this answer for years  SHOW ME THE MONEY...but with accounting numbers can be meaningless especially if the books are being cooked (all expenses on the mens side)!!!!

    From Goon's World: http://ndgoon.blogspot.com/2016/10/no-womens-hockey-is-not-on-chopping.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogspot%2FZTZqA+(Goon's+World)

    1. Who on the national stage cares about women's hockey?  Unless Schloss is considered the national stage now.  To the SJWs, just point out that we also cut baseball, likely men's tennis, and eventually men's golf.

    2. UND should be open and honest about how it puts most of the WIH money into WBB and VB.  The men's sports you mentioned should also receive some of the money, and UND should be very public about how it has over-funded women's sports for over a decade and men's sports were also cut in this process.

    3. Winning a women's hockey national title.  If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is around to hear it, did it make a sound?

    4. Olympians.  See #3

    5. Don't we want the area's sons to have a place to play Division 1 baseball?  I guess not.  The girls can still go to Bemidji, Duluth, Mankato, and St. Cloud too. The team currently has just 1 player from ND and 2 from NW MN anyway (4 from Europe, 8 from Canada, 5 from the twin cities, & 5 randoms).

I understand women's hockey is here to stay, but I'm still not convinced there's a valid reason why.

best post in a long long time on here....love #3!

I was pretty well convinced that W hockey wasn't going anywhere.  It would be tough to sell politically.

remember these are just recomendations...he still can drop them...why would it be politically tough?  only about 300 people go to the games and 290 of them are parents....

That's a pretty large assumptive leap right there.

The Summit plays everything we play right now (except hockey, and doesn't sponsor FB). As is today we'd be short mens soccer and baseball team to play all 19 Summit sports. (Side note: NDSU doesn't play Summit mens soccer, tennis or S&D, or womens S&D or tennis.)

    they gots the wrasslin''''' tho...
