And that cash differential between being in the AHL and the NHL is astronomical. Say you get a max rookie deal if you are Forbert...so that's what about $280k to sign, which after paying taxes and your agent is really like $100k. Then you make $70k per in the AHL...now this isn't terrible, but at the same time, it isn't great either, considering it has a short life. What do you do when you're done??

Living in Mpls, watching the games in my basement on FCS...playing knee hockey with my 2 year old while he says "I'm Danny Kristo, you Corban Knight, Mommy's Rocco Maldi" gives me pause and makes me think of another little boy who played knee hockey in a basement and pretended to be Doug Smail...Fighting SIoux hockey lives forever!

The last decade, that many have been calling "failures," has given me many hundreds of hours of enjoyment. The shared experience of Sioux hockey with my fellow fanatics (and those whom I've dragged along with me for the ride) has been so worth it. My investment in the team has been so worth it. My investment in game tickets in GF, St Cloud, Duluth, St. Paul, Minneapolis so worth it. My ridiculously expensive cable TV package just to get FCS so worth it. My old set-up with wires everywhere to run the desktop computer through my TV so worth it. All those games, all those moments of greatness and pure joy. The moments of heartbreaking losses. All shared with people I know and with a universe of people that I might never know but share a common bond with me. I'm with the previous poster...I can't imagine the last ten years without Oshie, Parise, Toews, Bochenski, Greene, Smaby, Chorney, Vandevelde, Trupper, Pony, Frattin, Porter, Duncan, Kristo, MacWilliam. I wouldn't trade those ten years of Sioux hockey just for national titles...no way...

If he had someone attacking the net with speed with him, a bunch of his shots would've become assists. Even if you draw iron or pad, a strong drive to the net or a shot is always a good thing. I do think he is playing in fast forward and without teammates moving at the same rhythm and without line chemistry, math at causes problems

Regardless of personnel, I think we really need to evaluate our systems on the forecheck, powerplay, breakout, and d zone coverage. I would spend all summer bag skating guys with parachutes and weights. We need to be quicker and make quicker, better passes. We need to quit playing along the walls and start attacking the scoring areas. We need to leave our zone with speed and numbers as a cohesive unit. We need to put the puck on net and have guys winning battles to the rebound areas. We need to make guys miss in order to advance the puck.

I won't get too up in arms about the self immolation post...folks are venting. If anyone is really serious, then they need some other activities to occupy their time. We're all bummed out. I think we all recognize that we've missed some opportunities and next year isn't looking the most promising. Yale is a good team. They executed their game plan and adjusted. We did not execute and did not make the needed adjustments. We couldn't connect a pass with flow, we lost a lot of battles, and we had no powerplay. We took some bad penalties too. We saw some flashes, but couldn't keep it up. We looked like we had weights in our skates. I might pop on from time to time over the next few months, but I'll be back again in October...who knows...we might overachieve next year.

Agree...I bet Andy Mac would've been a legend and in the NHl now had he gone CHL...his game was way too physical for the new NCAA

You always hold the zone when you can. I'm not talking about pinching. Your d have to be able to hold each line...I was always coached to use your points when you're in deep. I think our falling back was more often than not due to being slower foot than the opponent, not due to playing "smart"- which is what I think you are getting at....attempting to play smart that is. Holding the line is not aggressive, not even on the offensive blue line, unless you are referring to trying to hold it against an oncoming rush. In that case I'd agree with you. I am talking about loose pucks and not well controlled pucks or weak passes from the forwards. You don't like plus minus as a barometer of two-way play? What do you prefer?

What do we say about 0-20 on the pp in our final five games and 2-25 in the playoffs...with the two coming against MTU in the opener. A 20% effectiveness, and that is 4 goals...our three losses in those 5 playoff games (excluding the ENG) were by a total of 4 goals...not to mention the momentum boost... You have to have special teams in the playoffs... I've been beating the horse to death, but how do we fail that badly on something we know will be that important...Also, when we go into the defensive shell, we fall apart. For some reason, Hak tries to do this to protect a lead- NHL style- but we always fail miserably at it...feels like the prevent defense.

The reason that head coaches (like corporate execs) make large incomes with guaranteed buy-outs on contracts is because it is a risk-premium. Failure is pinned on you, and you will be fired. The money offsets the high probability of not having a job at some point in the very near future.

D as the strength of this team??? Wow...I could not disagree more. Its not about stats, you could make an argument for plus/minus, but certainly not 10 points as a barometer. How often did we see great outlet passes? How well did we hold the lines vs falling back...how many footraces did we lose? I kept saying that when the NCAA crew kept talking about us...they were talking about our reputation, not how we played this year. I watched 99% of the games this year, and I was NEVER impressed with our defense. Too many breakdowns, too little flow out of the zone. Only Simpson and Mac were decent. Offense starts with an outlet pass...not a chip off the glass or a ring around the boards.

As I've been saying all over these boards, I do not support the firing of Hak. I do think we get an excellent executive of the program with him. What we don't get is a big game coach. Someone put it well- he would be an awesome GM. It didn't look like the boys were having fun in this tourney...you need to have fun too...its a game...when you're having fun, you get bounces and make things click.

That missed 3 on 1 on Friday really epitomized the season...missed opportunities...not clicking. Yale really earned it though. They were the better team after the first five minutes.

Good first post. You are right about the lack of chemistry and weak play by the D. Passes were off, rarely did we hit a guy on the tape, in full stride, with space. We always seem to be terrible when we try and protect a lead...defensive shell does not work. Most great opportunities were generated by individual efforts from Kristo and Rocco.

So what happened this year? Let's do a post-mortem. I will start with the two that jump out at me. 1. We never found the winger to play with Knight and Kristo. This resulted in constant line juggling and little chemistry. 2. We never found secondary scoring with any consistency. Also resulting in constant line juggling.
-
I'd like to just see us fly on the attack instead of grinding it out...watch these eastern teams attack...they all skate very well and move the puck up ice. Rocco would fit in that type of offense.
