  1. You know, citing the kid seems a bit overzealous...I can remember being in college and it being bar close- getting hushed out by the bouncers and needing to hit the head. Sometimes they didn't let you, and if you gotta go, you gotta go. Or maybe he was just looking for attention like the guy in the San Francisco airport security fiasco.
  2. Big Timing- gotta be careful when you do that, especially when you're "stuff" really isnt that good. We've got a long way to go before we can be considered big time (excluding hockey)
  3. point taken, but living in the Twin Cities, I am not subjected to (fortunately) any of that which you describe
  4. So did the 1997 flood... I am a huge Sioux hockey fan, and I loved growing up in GF- I'd have to look at the articles, but I would guess that there was very little "special" about the articles beyond the success of the hockey program in terms of winning and in terms of pros produced compared with the relative small size of the school and obscurity of the location. Look- I always tell people I grew up in North Dakota, but when I am in a major city on the east or west coast, I am greeted with blank stares- it is nothing to be ashamed of, it should be embraced. Don't try to be too big-time, we'd only embarrass ourselves; and we have more class than that.
  5. This seems a bit like Marsha Brady syndrome- NDSU is not on anyone's radar either.
  6. agree, and that is the reason behind my ending phrase "one big time program"
  7. Hate to burst your bubble, but UND is not on the radar of anyone outside of NoDak or outside of college hockey circles. Not a knock, I am a fan and grew up there. It just is not on the radar for most of the country...It is a small school in a small town in a small state...does have one big time program
  8. That was his charm- UND, Grand Forks, and North Dakota aren't exactly the cosmopolitan centers of the world- Sweeney represented and embraced a hometown feel.
  9. Personally, I will miss Pat Sweeney- he was a fantastic character
  10. Somehow my reply went to the wrong thread...on iphone
  11. I've lived in Minneapolis for 17 years. Safe is relative. I would not be comfortable with my wife and a girldriend walking around down there late at night. I live in south Minneapolis in a neighborhood of 500kish homes, and there are occasional police helicopters and searchlights at night. I feel safer downtown Chicgao and downtown NYC at night- heck even center city in Philly feels safer than downtown Minny.
  12. Looks like I should be an agent with that 5 year 20 mil prediction
  13. Yeah, Brett Hull...pretty decent career...forgot about that one.
  14. Joe Niewendyk, Keith Tchachuk, and Chris Chelios (and others that I am missing) might too
  15. Rau may not ever skate in the NHL, but he has skill. He is another guy with a nose for the net...some guys, loose pucks just find their sticks when goalies are out of position.
  16. I agree that Bjugstad will be a very good NHL player Agree. Toews will arguably be the greatest NHLer ever to have played college hockey.
  17. You know who had great hands at the college level? Jeff Taffe the old Gopher...he was like a surgeon...
  18. Berry is our counter to Guentzel! I think we will definitely see an improvement in our special teams and d play as a result of Berry. Not sure how the toughness factor will play out with Berry vs Eades...Cary is definitely a tough cookie.
  19. I was trying to throw Bjugstad a bone- he did score 25 goals last year and has a knack for the net down low. There is no real comparison between an NHL all-star, conn smythe winning, arguably best two-way center in the NHL and a college kid with potential. What always stood out to me on JT in college, was not his hands per se, but rather his perfect positional play and excellent all around skill. Not saying he couldn't shoot (ask Frazee at the WJC) or wasn't a great passer...he had all of the tools. What stands out to me on Bjugstad is that he has great hands and a big body. Maybe its because it is unexpected or because Toewser did everything so well that it makes Bjugstad's hands stand out to me.
  20. On paper, the Gophers and UND are very closely matched. I agree that Bjugstad is a game changer- he is an NHL center- the last college player I said that about was Toewser. Not comparing the two, as they play very different games, but just that Bjugstad is going to have a nice pro career- he isn't as technically perfect as Toews was, but he has better hands- although both are gifted offensively, plus his size will make it difficult for anyone to matchup with. With Budish on his wing, that is two extremely big and strong forwards with skill. I think that Forbert and Mac can matchup with that line, but I do not think any of the other d-pairings have the strength to do it. Not meant as a knock, just physics. For an offensive matchup, you need Knight out there against Bjugstad, if for no other reason than to win draws to prevent Bjugstad and Budish from being able to use their size on the forecheck and force us back against our defensive end wall. Kristo plays that wing, and although he has gotten better in our end, he is still more of an offensive player. That said, the second wing on our first line has to be strong physically and strong in positional defensive play. He also will need to be offensive enough to play with Kristo and Knight- not sure who that might be?? Maybe Rodwell, maybe O'Donnell, maybe Rowney. Bottom line is the Gophs top line is a very difficult one to match up with, and getting that assignment will be a challenge. I think that Grimaldi is the real x-factor, and if he comes back and plays at the level he is capable of, and plays center on the second line, it immediately changes the dynamic. Like in many years, the games will be decided by depth players, toughness, and special teams.
  21. Is Hak an American Citizen? Isn't he from Alberta?
