  1. I never saw this year's UND team demonstrate that they could compete like that...in fact, Agostino and Miller looked ever bit as capable as Kristo and Knight. In terms of straight up ability, I thought that big horse Jordan Samuels-Thomas and Matthew Pecca- both of Quinnipiac looked like two of the best players that i have seen play all year- I thought the Miller-Agostino line was phenomenal- PERFECT hockey in the tourney I thought Johnny Geadreau was the most individually offensively skilled kid I saw play all year- followed by Pecca and Kristo Nick Bjugstad, Anders Lee, and Jordan Samuels-Thomas were NHL men playing in the NCAA- physically dominant with some paws, I can't imagine a line made up of those guys Stephen Johns and Danny Dekeyser make my all NCAA shut-down pairing- again, men playing NCAA NIck Jensen and Jacob Trouba were the best all-around d-men in my opinion
  2. The way Yale played in this tournament, they beat this year's UND team 7 outta 10. Yale beat the #2 overall seed and WCHA champ Gophers, our team, the #3 overall seed and Hockey East champ Lowell, and the #1 overall seed and ECAC champ Quinnipiac- they were the best team in the country when it counted. Quite frankly, I don't think this year's UND team could've beaten the Yale, Lowell, or Quinnipiac teams I saw in the this tourney on a regular basis.
  3. Telling ya, being the totally disrespected underdog lit their fire...a very good team with something to prove becomes an unbeatable team
  4. no doubt- Toews is probably the best 2-way center in the WORLD Osh never spent a minute in the AHL- he went to the NHL as a top-6 forward, and scores 18 goals and makes some big checks I have compared Danny's skill set to Drew Stafford- but Drew was a first rounder and is big... Danny put up solid numbers at the WJC which generally translates very well to the pro game. If you don't even go back to the two super stars you brought up, Danny and Corban were second line on the Pony Express team...
  5. NEVER have I posted that Danny Kristo is my "hero"- and I'd actually agree with you that Kristo will never be Parise or Toews at the next level- Where I disagree with you is around him toiling around in the ECHL- If you are talking pro-prospect, Danny's a 2nd round pick, which, with his skill set, probably gives him about a 33% chance of making it as a career NHLer...
  6. Its probably all he could get...he is not a big-time NHL prospect. Not meant to rip him, but much like Duncs, he had a great year in college, but isn't destined for a Parise or Toews NHL career.
  7. Its about fast hockey. Fast feet, fast reactions- all three zones. Pressure the puck carrier jump the passing lanes and outlets. Move your feet, move the puck. You can never be fast enough. We were not fast enough this year- some guys are fast in a footrace, but didn't make fast passes or fast decisions. Its like my coach used to say- if you make a mistake, I'm okay with it if its fastand hard. We played too cautious, not fast enough, not reckless enough (unless you count running into the goalie as reckless- I'm thinking reckless abandon, not reckless stupidity)
  8. Well- they were playing someone...
  9. Dump and chase is not an offensive system, but rather an entry strategy. When you do dump and chase, what you need to do is win footraces to the puck more so than issue a punishing check- although if you lose the race, you need to finish your check. It is generally not the preferred system of entry, but used when you are not attacking with numbers or speed, and the defense has numbers and/or is well positioned. The cycle on the other hand is an offensive system built on wearing down an oppositions defense physically. The idea being that tired bodies result in tired minds, and tired minds and bodies make mistakes. I'm personally a much bigger fan of positional offensive zone play or even the triangle. To me, the cycle spends too much time in areas from which you can't score (i.e. behind the goal line) it also results in 3 forwards on one side of the ice...I hate that!
  10. Seeing that there are no guarantees in life or sport, I take B. You have to get there in order to have a shot. Entertaining hockey with the legitimate possibility of winning it all every April- that's what life is like as a Sioux fan.
  11. I'm saying his job would be in jeopardy, yes. We have not had a losing season since the "dark ages" of the 90's...I don't think it would be tolerated. Slightly better than .500 and missing the tourney twice in a row, same thing...the point I am really trying to make is that with all of the successes, a national championship would give him some more freedom/security to have a random bad showing. The other key variable would be who would be out there to take over...not sure...I would not fire him unless I thought we had an excellent successor. You don't fire to be punitive, you replace to improve.
  12. and no guns...sorry...probably doesn't belong on this thread
  13. Without a national championship, he can not have a losing season, nor can he miss the NCAAs twice...with a national championship he would be allowed a losing season and would be allowed to miss the NCAAs twice...all else being equal (his current track record of consistent winning percentage, conference titles, conference tourney titles) IMO
  14. Nick Bjugstad with 14 minutes of ice in the show tonight...
  15. Every player and coach wants to win every game they participate in. You compete to win...be it an early december match-up with Mankato or the National Championship game. First things first though, you gotta win enough games to get your shot at the NC, then you have to roll off a great tourney. Playing 4 complete games at the top of your ability. No excuses, but I definitely value consistent winning over just plucking out a random NC. Eye of the tiger...its the game not the result.
  16. speed always kills...you see Cloud trying to cycle and play the Western game, meanwhile QU just creates odd-man after odd-man. Then they also throw in that horse with the hyphenated name who just power moved a goal and a helper... I actually really enjoy watching the game the way these Eastern schools have been playing it...
  17. the care systems mentioned are all taxable non-profits, meaning they pay less in taxes, but they still pay taxes. References to charges are really quite irrelevant. ND providers deal with two essential monopolies on the payer side: BCBSND with 80% market share, and Medicare. Also, care systems don't lower the cost of care. The leverage of the large integrated delivery systems on commercial payments creates a disparity, where you'd be crazy not to sell your practice- cashflows for the same services at a higher level. private practice was dying well before the existence of Sanford as its current entity. healthcare is big business- don't mitigate the economic impact of those provider systems on the community...think about all of the federal dollars via Medicare that enter the community. Also, if you look at compensation structures, etc. Altru, Sanford, and Essentia are all quite reasonable based on their size. In fact, compared to other areas of the country and for-profit siblings, compensation is on the low end for executives, higher for doctors- in order to attract them, and pretty reasonable for other professional staff (nurses, pharmacists, etc)
  18. Bjugstad made a living on the pp. He had his "spot" a lot like Duncan, but Duncs was a writster from the dot, Bjugstad was usually a one-timer rocket from the bottom of the circle...
  19. I've always wanted to attend, but the hogger is a long way from south Minneapolis ( where I live)...
  20. Also, because I looked at watchmaker's links, the smart ads on this sight are now asking me to look at the Nordstrom's men's store for suits...
  21. Actually the vino-culture d'jour now says that red wine is acceptable as a pairing with fish...as long as its not merlot...
  22. Macy's actually has decent Hugo Boss suits (at least the Macy's at Southdale). Not that this is fashion week on SS.com. You never go wrong with classic...that means Brooks Brothers or Polo Blue Label...You can go big with a Polo purple label...
  23. Watchmaker was saying that not only is Kristo not going to make the show, but also wasn't going to even end up in the A...Most of us disagreed with that opinion. I'm on record stating that I think he will develop into a nice 15-25 per year goal scoring second line winger in the NHL. I also said that based on Mario's offensive numbers Kristo would score 120 points in the E... Production in the A will be built around how they want him to develop...in other words will he get PP time and will he get optimal offensive minutes with scorers for linemates. I believe that based on age (physical maturity- especially being in the UND weight room, etc for four years), clear offensive skill (paws), speed, and 2nd round draft status, that Danny is probably on the short list to be called up along with LeBlanc if they need a scorer up in Montreal.
