There is no debating that Rocco is a great hockey player...so was Jeff Panzer and countless others who never saw the ice or simply got a cup of coffee in the show. If he turns pro, I will wish him much success. However, from a readiness perspective, he just isn't there yet. Bjugstad is in the same franchise, has monster physical gifts, and outperformed Rocco (so far) in his college career. Rocco will not play in the NHL next year. He must determine if the signing bonus and the development opportunity and okay money of the AHL is worth it...all I have to say is that guys that go to the A have to prove they can play, and guys who are 5'6 in the A have to score 40 goals to prove they can play. Guys who go right to the show have to prove they can't play. If I were in Rocco's shoes, I would stay one more year...minimum

God Bless and God Speed.

Good point! All in then, Rocco is financially better off getting his housing and meals paid by UND next year- again assuming the deal stands- which I'm sure it will.
-
No way does Rocco play in the NHL for more than a couple games over the next 2-3 years at present development level. Assume he has a rookie max signing bonus offer and say $800k in show and $70k in AHL...all he'd be doing by leaving now is getting his $300k bonus and $70k AHL salary one year earlier. They won't pull his offer. One year, time value on $220k (after taxes) is ballpark $10k...or, the equivalent of his housing and meals at UND (likely paid under scholarship). Financial value to Rocco of signing is nothing. Only thing he gets is to start his entry level Restricted status a year early.
-
Dont take this the wrong way, but Toewser is a bad comparison. I love Rocco, but he was 20 most of this year and scored 17 goals and had 39 points...when JT was 19 he had 24 goals and 54 points...IN THE NHL
-
The guaranteed money is maxed at about $300k, then you make $70k in the AHL...not a bad way to start your career all in all, but nowhere near the NHL's rookie max when you're in the show of $975k

Danny Kristo- 2nd round draft pick, bigger, fast, as accomplished internationally, scored a ton in college, in the AHL all year...after 4 full years of NCAA... For this reason, Rocco stays

Agree the freshies haven't piled up the points since Osh, Toewser, TZajac, Stafford (kinda) and Parise- who are obviously quite special... Schmaltz is expected to be a first round pick...I am hanging my hope on him being a 40 point freshman based on similar draft stock as those guys. Although Brock Nelson was too, and he did not score a ton as a freshman- sophomore year different story- -
...and somehow I doubt that Rocco Grimaldi is subject to the same Registrar rules as the broader student body.
-
Schmaltz is not where Forbert was when he left- one more year will do him good. Agree on Rocco being an unusual player- tons of skill and creativity, but difficult to play with. Only fear is FL being "concerned" with his development. Hak and co have a reputation of being great at developing players that are effective in all 3 zones- hot commodity for NHL gms and players looking for longevity.

You go CHL at 18 after two years in USHL if you get drafted in the first round and your NHL team offers you the rookie max. You sign the deal, get your $300k signing bonus and go to the CHL.

Twenty Storied College Hockey Programs Ranked

I stated my criteria, which favors recent history. This puts Michigan back a little ways. If you don't weight time, then yes, Michigan has to be #1. -

National titles, frozen fours, conference titles, tournament appearances, elite alumni, hobey bakers in that order with heaviest weighting to last 10 years, then 11-20, 20-44, 44+ (taking it back to 1970). 1. Boston College 2. Minnesota 3. UND 4. Wisconsin 5. DU 6. Michigan 7. BU 8. Michigan State 9. Maine 10. Lake State 11. Michigan tech 12. Cornell -
I count 2 each for BC, Michigan, and DU Gionta and Orpik Cammeleri and Johnson Stastny and Carle

Thoughts on if the Sioux would of beat Union?
yzerman19 replied to ZamboniJabroni's topic in Men's Hockey
would've or would of? All speculation, but we lost to a team that got shelled. Union is the National Champion and deserved it. Would Michigan have beaten UND in 1997?? -

Fun to speculate on lines...I keep Rocco and Schmaltz (younger) separate, because it is my belief that both are playmakers first and foremost- and similarly to sicatoka I believe in line chemistry with a finisher and a playmaker- i round out lines with bangers or speedsters whose roles are to create time and space for the other two either by flying up the ice or creating a net front or boards presence. I think we lack some true finishers, but Parks, Jewels, Johnson and OD might be what we have... Gaarder is clutch and can score- he's a little bit of everything Pattyn is a banger with heart Mac is a speedster who can create space for others and chip in offensively If we put Schmaltz with Parks and Mac, we will have an elite playmaker alongside two older, accomplished players that can create space for him and work well together. Parks can bang home rebounds, Mac will stretch the D. I always like Rocco and Jewels together- with an older Johnson, they could be good. Both Rocco and Jewels can do amazing things with the puck Hopefully someone can step into that Frattin, Goren, Bochenski, Duncan role of finisher elite. I'm in agreement that we will have a third line that nobody will want to play against -
no- it is not scuzzy

Its on the north side of University Ave just across from campus and adjacent to frat row. It is home to a bunch of businesses. There is off campus housing adjacent to it to the north as well. At the Minneapolis campus you really have Stadium village- area east of campus (Washington Ave) that is where the SuperBlock of dorms is located, Sally's, the U hospital- and the stadiums (hence the name) Then you have dinkytown as described, Marcy Holmes- area west of 35W- lots of apartments West bank- other side of Mississippi home to 7 corners, adjacent to Cedar-Riverside

Congratulations to Union College for their first NCAA title. Also congrats to the Gophers on a great season...I have a feeling that we will meet in the tourney again next year...

As usual, the 4th line will be made up of whomever wants it the most. I have to believe that we'll see something like the following (based on playmaker, shooter, speedster or banger)- 1. Mark Mac with Parks and Schmaltz 2. Rocco with Jewels and Johnson 3. Gaarder with Pattyn and OD really hard to sit St. Clair, so it will likely be him with Olson, Simonson, Murphy, and/or Chyzyk D is already set, although Poolman could challenge That's Zane's net. There's always next year! Go Sioux! -
