This is just the legal ownership. There is also an agreement that the school that wins will be allowed to display the trophy at their school until the next game is played.
-
I read somewhere that a fraternity on each school owns 50% of it.
-
The name of the hurrican is Hurrican Ditka!

The answer is a play-off. However, i fail to see how losing late in the year should hurt anyone. No formula will work perfectly for everyone. If there was a 16 team play-off then even if oklahoma lost to Kstate 100-0, they would still make the play-off field.

By definition it will always be speculation unless we try. I imagien the RPI is no better than the BCS and includes biased human polls as well.
-
We could legally demand the half back (although we would probably then have to pay for the seperation and shipping). Dave - age doesn't matter all that much.
-
Actually, we legally own 50% of it. However, NDSU has no problem with UND displaying it there until the next game is played as per the agreement.
-
That is, of course, speculation. We won't know unless we try. Or we could always just go back to the BCS.
-
My opinion alone isn't good enough for a decision. It needs to be decided upon by many people. What the makority feel is fair will be the one.

Straight line speed is always a factor. Direction change, however, is probably going to be hard on a wet surface.

Is it really necessary to say " 'puter"? To me, it makes you sound biased against them (e.g. I'm a good 'ol country boy, ain't no way i'll ever trust these new-fangeled 'puters). I do agree that there can never be a system that is perfect for everyone. However, if we can find one that the majority agree on, then that is good enough for me.

I think maybe he was suggesting that i was younger versus don't make alot of money.
-
You're intitled to your opinion. That is why i think the one, end all, be all formula must be decided upon by many different people. I don't think it can ever be perfect for everyone, but it will be as close as we'll get to unbiased perfection. And making it public will allow everyone to calculate it themselves as soon as the scores come in. This will lead to great debates of "if team X wins this game..."but if team y loses here..", and so on.
-
Both of you seem to be hinting that there would be more than one computer which each had it's own, different formula. Also it seems like you guys think that everyone and their brother would have their own computer formula that would be taken into account. Sure, whoever wanted to could make up a computer formula and skew it in whatever way he/she wanted. So what? ***There would be only ONE computer with ONE forumla (that would be made public) that would be used for ranking/seeding. The criteria that would be used for this forumla would have to be agreed upon by more than one person and i would suggest that they use the least biased criteria that they possibly could (e.g. things like number of wins/losses which don't matter what the score is).***
-
Manipulated, as in skewed? If you manipulate the numbers for the formula, you manipulate the numbers for every team. They all get the skew evenly, which negates the effect of skewing. However (i think this might be what you meant), if you manipulate the numbers for simply one team, then this is cheating. One way to combat this would be to make the forumla public so it could be checked by ESPN and whoever else to make sure there wasn't a watergate happening.
-
Digger would hurt me permanately.
-
Numbers, however, don't have biases. The only thing that matters are things like the number of wins and loses by yourself and the wins/loses of your opponents and opponent's opponents. Things that don't matter include: Oklahoma shouldn't get it because they lost their conference (although they have a better record than everyone else in it), it shouldn't be USC's fault that they scheduled teams that flopped this year, etc. Things that humans perceive to try and rationalize their biases. Computers can only be programmed to look at numbers, and like i said, numbers can't lie. Perhaps they can be skewed, like you said, but they will be skewed for everyone which negates the purpose of trying to skew the numbers in one team's favor. Couple this computer only ranking system with a 16 team play-off and those most bitch we'll ever hear is from the 17th ranked team who has no realistic chance at winning the title anyway.

I've only said that we demanded payment for the nickel if UND wanted to do something with our half that we didn't approve of and if they wanted to do it. If you just want to hang on to it and do nothing with it for a while, be my guest.
-
This whole scenario is hypothetical. That's good to know. This will be the 3rd time that i've said this: we don't want it back. However, if we did want it back, then i agree we should pay for shipping. So if someone is in wrongful possesion of anything, they should never be required to pay for any of the shipping? Yes you did win. You won the right to display the trophy at your school until the next game is played. You didn't win 100% legal ownership. Thanks for the legal advice. Not only are you a dictionary, but also a legal advisor. This scenario has all been hypothetical. I hope you're not threatening me personally because we were arguing a hypothetical scenario.
-
This is exactly my point for having an all computer ranking system. Computers can never be biased because even if the criteria the computers use is skewed a certain way, it gets skewed for every team! So the team that has the best numbers is the team that gets ranked the highest. Also i think the tournement should be the best 16 teams, not the best 8.
-
Thanks for the definition, you seem to be a living dictionary. NDSU's demands: - Since we legally own half the nickel, UND can't do anything with our half that we don't approve of. That is the only demand we have. However, if UND feels the need, here are 2 options that they can choose to follow - seperate the nickel halfs and mail us our half - pay NDSU for our half UND doesn't have to do these if they don't want to. Just keep in mind our one demand.
-
It's USC fault for being in a conference that doesn't have one. Conference champion games *shouldn't* have any meaning on the national championship anyway. The best idea i've heard so far was adding in opponent's records for the past 5 seasons to the SOS. That way teams wouldn't be penalized for playing teams that should've been good when they scheduled them, but flopped.
-
Please do whatever you wish with the nickel. Just don't don't do anything with our half that we don't approve of. Diggler - we aren't making demands. We don't want our half of the nickel back. We are only going to stop UND from doing pretty much anything with our half of the nickel. So, should a time comes that you want to seperate the halfs, then you can mail it back to us. That's only if *you* want to seperate the halfs.
-
We don't want it back, we simply won't allow you to do anything we deem unacceptable with our half of the nickel. If you get tired of that game, then *you* can mail us our half back.
