2022-23 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
Godsmack replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
I know, I couldn’t believe I was that bored I sat through 60 minutes of listening to Gopher hockey talk but I will listen at least once more just to hear what the GPL hosts and Schloss have to say about the upcoming series. -

So, remember last year how Omaha got out of the blocks with a 7-1 record and were ranked in the top 15? -their non-conference opposition was against nothing but cupcakes. When the Mavericks hit league play, they came back to reality. Also, their first 8 games were all played at home. I just looked up Omaha’s non-conference schedule for this year and they face similar opposition-Long Island, St. Lawrence, Niagra, Alaska Fairbanks, and Lake Superior (the best of the bunch). Those teams’ combined record last year was, 64-98-16. A big risk to loading up your non-conference schedule with weak opponents is, if you lose it’s gotta be absolutely brutal to your pairwise ranking.

I just listened to the most recent GPL podcast and they announced that next week, their guest will be Schlossman to preview the UND/Gopher series. Just thought I’d share that with the group if you’d care to listen to it once it’s posted. You can subscribe to GPL on YouTube. -
Hell yah they are sick! I hope they rock these this weekend at the Ice Breaker!

Wow, makes me question whether or not it’s worth my time reading Semisch’s article. In about two minutes time, he could’ve done his due diligence and caught his inaccuracies before sending the article off to print.

Hey gang, I just checked Ticketmaster and there are a fair amount of tickets up for sale for the UND at CC series in February. I just wanted to bring this to everyone’s attention in case you are thinking that you’d like to go. As that weekend gets closer, those tickets will likely become less available and more expensive. I saw asking prices right now as low as $35 for Friday and as low as $30 for Saturday. Given CC did not include a General Admission or visitors section in the new arena, the only way for UND fans to go is to buy others’ tickets on the second hand market. I’d just as soon see you all be able to get tickets and at a somewhat reasonable price now. Edit: I stand corrected….the tickets currently for sale on Ticketmaster are currently tickets being sold directly by the school, they are not second hand. However, these tickets will likely be scooped up fast at those prices and as the season goes along, expect season ticket holders to start listing their tickets for the UND series at some pretty ridiculous prices. -
In reading an article about St. Cloud at the NCHC media day, I got the sense Cruikshank is a centerman but was put on the wing position at Minnesota and perhaps that didn’t sit well with him because coach Brett Larson said in his recorded interview with the guys from the rink.com that he was purposely going to slot him in at the center position.

Yah, I’ve always gone directly to the DU athletics site to buy my tickets for the North Dakota series. Keep in mind that they charge a premium price for this series and a buddy of mine just told me they’ve raised ticket prices across the board due to them and the Avs having won it all and hockey being the hot ticket in town. I would strongly recommend that if you plan on going, you lock up your tickets ASAP as this series typically sells out very quickly. I’m taking a year off from going to both the UND as well as the CC series at Magness. Just don’t want to have to deal with being around a bunch of gloating DU fans so will be watching it on tv instead. That said, you will have fun, the energy in Magness is electric when UND comes to town. A huge contingent of North Dakota fans will be in attendance. As far as where to stay, I can’t help you out there as I live in Colorado so lodging was never something I had to deal with. -
The part that still rubs me the wrong way too is why he’d want to back out of the GLI in the first place. Michigan’s been a part of that tradition forever and to want to back out because you anticipate a bunch of your players being gone at the world juniors, well boo hoo.

The only thing I DON’T miss about Cruikshank no longer playing at CC is having to be reminded about his Olympian parents!

Posting this here and on the UND hockey season thread as well… https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/the-2022-grand-forks-herald-preseason-college-hockey-top-20

I went to the season ticket holder fan fest today and they unveiled the new jerseys and I was impressed. Long overdue to highlight the new Tiger head logo and crest.

The media guys on the rink live podcast talked about this and it sounds like sticking with the NCHC.tv is a lot more lucrative for the conference. https://www.therinklive.com/inside-trl/which-team-may-surprise-people-in-the-nchc-key-takeaways-from-media-day-key-conference-players-to-watch -
I remember seeing them against UND some years back.

I like to watch this YouTube video shortly before the start of the season. Gets me all kinds of fired up for North Dakota hockey. Friends and fellow CC fans ask me inquisitively how come I’m so passionate about UND hockey. I guess if they have to ask they just wouldn’t understand. -

For those in the Rocky Mountain region interested, single game tickets for Air Force hockey have gone on sale starting today. AF and DU are co-hosting this year’s ice breaker tournament with Maine and Notre Dame coming to town.

Man, don’t envy UNI and their defense having had to play against Air Force last weekend. Just finished watching AF run the ball down the throats of CU and it sounds like they did the same against UNI last weekend as well.

Coincidentally, I met Coach Mayotte a few weeks ago while playing a drop in session. He saw me sitting on the CC bench wearing a game worn Schwartz jersey and wanted to ask me about it. I wanted to ask him why they don’t have the redesigned Tiger logo prominently displayed on the new sweaters instead of that plain, boring font (like how UND had prior to the 2016-2017 season) but I chickened out. The school likely dropped thousands of dollars hiring some Madison Avenue marketing firm on this new Tiger logo (and mascot name-Prowler was deemed not PC and was therefore dropped) but it’s nowhere to be found on the jerseys. Odd.

Do you know what the process is for assigning numbers to new players? Do they have any say into picking their own number from what’s available or do the coaches assign them out?
