  1. Not as bad as literally the "Sioux" are sliding. The Big Sky can survive w/o UND, but can UND survive without the Big Sky?
  2. Does not matter, we have hockey and get to play UM and UW for two more years. After that UND could be another Northern Tech State college of Irrelevant Independence, but we could still be the Fighting Stupids. What is the status of the FB practice facility? I thought this was a done deal 2 years ago? Seriously, I am really disappointed if this is true. If it is the name and the BSC jeopardy then it is really a sad situation. If it is some other reason then so be it. Move on. I just hope this name issue goes away and soon.
  3. I am very sorry about your property and family suffering through this flood. I am from GF, but did not experience the flooding issues as my family is now gone and I moved years ago. The nickname issue is sad and unfortunate and the NCAA is wrong in the way they approached it. But, in spite of being right, it is time to cut our losses and move on. The cost is and has been too great to continue the fight. UND and the athletic teams will all be fine once the name is gone. People will adjust over time. As you know first hand, there are far more important issues in the world to tackle. I was very upset about the name change too, but have come to grips with it especially now with the Big Sky opportunity and not being able to see Sioux teams play the Gophers in OOC sports as have other former NCC teams.
  4. Really? I thought it was a redundant bunch of previously posted irrelevant trivia. The bottom line is that those of us who have supported the nickname need to realize that being right is not always going to prevail. The 3 years is up. It is time to move on. The overall athletic program and the university are more important than being right or the nickname. What is really important is helping the folks in Minot, Bismark, and elsewhere with flood recovery and getting UND firmly invested in the D1 level athletics. The nickname is irrelevant at this point.
  5. I see your point, it is still a stretch, but more importantly, it is not Bruinincks or even Maturi that is the problem. It is the Board of Regents. Maturi has been unable to convince them, I think there are 10, to allow him to schedule UND in OOC sports. Even with the blessing of the NCAA I am not sure that they can be convinced to schedule UND without the name gone.
  6. Unfortunately even though this is a creative approach, I do not see the parallel. Ski U Mah is like saying in a foreign language "Victory University of Minnesota". It does not necessarily offend or degrade anyone. The term Fighting Sioux does offend some people. BTW, Bruinicks is a lame duck and will be replaced by the new president prior to the next school year.
  7. I am an alum, grew up 7 blocks from UND, lived and died Sioux sports for over 60 years, and I feel terribly sorry for you and your attitude. Obviously your priorities are in the wrong place. The name is not bigger than the University nor the thousands of alums who have attended UND. UND may be the Notre Dame of college hockey, but that can be argued by several schools around the country. It is admirable what a smaller midwestern university has done in the hockey world, but it is far more notable as to what UND graduates have done outside of the world of sports. Please understand the risk that UND is under by not dropping the Sioux name. It could take decades to recover.
  8. Not sure what the NCAA has discussed with other schools, but obviously 3 major midwestern state universities will not schedule UND and there may be others (SDSU?). Once you smell like a skunk folks do not want to be associated you, i.e. the Big Sky inferences.
  9. Unfortunately everything that he says is true. Without UND athletics GF is a non destination for alumni and a lot of other folks. I was born and raised there and rarely go back, but when I do it is to attend a sporting event and visit family graves. UND is really the only major asset that GF has and this issue has already hurt the university, AND it will get worse. Wouldn't it be refreshing to wake up some morning and see this issue gone and then move on with all the positive things that can come from the BSC and D1 athletics without this millstone? I look forward to that day when the UND administration can focus on building a better univesity and community.
  10. Can someone update/refresh my knowledge on the practice facility? I thought that was a done deal and underway. Obviously I am not informed.
  11. His record the last 10 years was brutally bad to mediocre. He should have been fired several years before he finally left. Look up his record for the last years at UND. Nice guy though and his wife is a great community contributor.
  12. I agree. This issue needs to go away and UND and fans need to move on. I love the name and the school, but far too many resources and time have been devoted to fighting this battle. Right or wrong, the issue itself is hurting the University and could get worse. Change the name ASAP. If the Big Sky drops UND you can kiss athletics at UND goodbye along with a lot of alumni support including mine.
  13. This was a pretty useless article repeating the obvious information that has been put forth previously. A waste of newsprint and cyberspace. Kolpack must have been looking for something to do with his time during the offseason.
  14. Pioneer Press this morning reported that Danye Guinn is on the staff of the U of Minn WBB as the Operations Director. Good news about another UND grad.
  15. This is the epitome of college FB programs falling to their knees. I am sure more will come out of this and the NCAA followup, but it shows how shallow, how ugly, how greedy and how sad, the pursuit of national FB noteriety can be. What a sad, sad day for college FB. Be careful how you proceed while reaching for the top. It really brings out the good and bad in people.
  16. Just to set the record straight, I believe it was the Army Corps of engineers that made the erroneous estimate in 1997 not NWS due to the RR bridge interferences.
  17. You are not getting on our nerves. You are just reinforcing the general opinion most people have of NDSU fans being a bunch of Boreass stupid farmers
  18. Don't they allow you on the Bison website? If I want to hear or read stuff about the Bison I would go there. Pls be gone, I am sick of you on this site whether you have anything that makes sense or not.
  19. Simple fact, tear apart? There is no such thing until the two teams actually play on the field. UND had some good games and some bad last year. NDSU did also. Overall I would expect that NDSU would have beat UND ON AVG last year, BUT AVG is not a given. Attendance is not a factor either. There were years that UND beat the Bison that the Bison might have been favored and the better team, but UND won. Face it Bison, the game is on the field, not in the polls, not in the chat rooms, not in the press and UND has been better team more often than the Bison on the field. Keep reading those press clippings and keep remembering the past Bison backers. Until Taylor puts his balls on the line and the two teams play it is all BS.
  20. Seems pretty logical doesn't it? I think both schools AD's want to keep their options open in case a better deal comes along with a bigger payout, college FB is all about the money now you know. UND/NDSU games would also be a big money game, but not the same impact as a FBS game. I think in particular Taylor is thinking that way. Also, winning such a game is big, but losing, especially if you are NDSU would be traumatic.
  21. Agree that CMU was the best FBS team NDSU has played, but being compared to a middle of the pack Big 10 team is not a compliment in today's football world. The Big 10 is and has been very weak on a national front.
  22. I have posted before that UND needs a recruiting presence in the Twin Cities because there is a vast untapped number of both men and women BB players here. I think this is a great move and I think that Jones is finally trying to tap the MSP area as a source of D1 talent. In my opinion this is a great move.
  23. The guy was academically ineligible, is from California, and obviously has no clue about geography. He is probably going to end up on the West coast somewhere if it is true he wants to play close to home, but I think he just has issues.
  24. No way on RT. You cannot go back in life and I do not think he has the appetite or energy it takes to run a D1 program. Re Nielson, great coach, had success at Eau Claire and now at Duluth. Only question is how much did the Bubba Schweigert legacy there help him and the super running back from Rochester? is really a D1 kid that got overlooked somehow. As AD, Nielson has a great situation and may not want to leave. That said I am not ready to throw Muss under the bus yet. I suspect he has learned some real lessons the last couple of years, notably in game preparation. If he has another embarrassing game this next year then we can speculate more about a replacement.
