UND (KenPom 228) pulled it off against LMU. They managed to make it real interesting at the end but pulled it off. Now they are rewarded by being in Cancun and playing Bethune-Cookman (KP 277). Bethune-Cookman is 1-4 with their lone win against South Carolina State. They did keep it close against Nebraska too. Looks like #2 Brayon Freeman and #1 Trey Thomas are the ones to keep your eye on. Freeman is a senior guard averaging 15ppg. Thomas is a junior guard averaging 10.4ppg. Both are transfers. KenPom predicts UND to win this one 73-70. I think we should be able to win by more. Unfortunately, the game is on FloCollege and a month plan is $19.99.

So who would UND hire? - Eric Schmidt - 1st year as DC at San Diego State. Currently they’re 3-8, giving up 29.45ppg and 422.9 yards per game. Not great, but 1st year as DC there. - Danny Freund - 1st year as Co-OC at SDSU but not the primary play caller. Offense is averaging 36.58ppg. No clue how credit he’s due, if any. He’s my guy but understand the skepticism. - Isaac Fruechte - 1st year as OC here. Think he’s done a decent to good job. Offense is averaging 30.83ppg. People aren’t a fan of his QB choice. I think he will be a successful coach going forward but not sure it’s the right time to be the head coach. - Tony Annese - Ferris State head coach, #1 team in D2. 132-21 record but he’s 63 years old. Maybe his son Steve? Not sure how much influence he has had in their success. - Tyler Roehl - if you can’t beat them, hire them? I know he’s now at Iowa State but many years in the NDSU program and knows how to win. Many voiced their opinion for him to take over after Entz left. Many also wanted him canned. I’d say this one’s unlikely. - Luke Schleussner - 2nd year as OC at Idaho, was our OC last year of Muss. Known as a great recruiter. Idaho is averaging 28.08ppg this year and 32.31 last year. - Josh Davis - 1st year as OC at USD, was previously at SDSU as the pass game coordinator. Averaging 37ppg. - Travis Johansen - 6th season as USD’s DC. Holding teams to 14.94ppg. Was previously the head coach at Grand View (NAIA) where he had a record of 61-11. - Jesse Bobbit - 2nd season as SDSU’s DC. Held teams to 12.42ppg this year and 9.27ppg last year. An SDSU alum with previous coaching stop at Washington State as a grad assistant and then quality control coach. I am sure there are many others but I’m more interested in talking about who rather than talking about Bubba right now. We will see if this is even necessary this year but this thread and the need for a new head coach is not going to die just because the athletic department says Bubba isn’t leaving.

Good win. I’m still angry that it came down to the wire there. Had it on ice but Trey got selfish there. Oh well, wins a win.

Reid Grant looking good against the Bison. Down 49-44 in the 2nd half. He has 13pts and 4 assists. I liked him here but just couldn’t shoot. Could use that ball handler though.

UND travels west to take on Loyola Marymount of the Big West. They sit at 1-2 with no D1 wins, so far. LMU is 149th on KenPom while UND is 246. KenPom has this being a 76-68 loss. Game can be watched on ESPN+.

Would people be in favor of giving the keys to Fruechte? I get wanting to get out of the program but he only has one year in the program. Has done a good job with the offense, in my opinion. Maybe didn’t choose everyone’s favorite QB but they’ve done well. Doesn’t have any head coaching experience maybe a negative.

Yeah and then deleted any existence of his time at UND off his socials, at least instagram. I can’t find his account anymore so maybe he brought it back.

This second half could get away but either way, I’m thinking much more positively after this than the Colorado State game. We have limited the turnovers, for the most part, but Notre Dame is making all their shots. Granted a lot are pretty easy makes. We will be just fine come Summit play though. Also, Sather finally realized that Deng stinks. Or maybe you have to have a certain GPA to play on Notre Dame’s court. Okay that was maybe a low blow.

I’m not going to read everything here but my personal take on the QB situation is that none of the QBs on the roster would have really changed where we sit this year. Romfo is not the main reason we are 5-6. The defense is.

I would argue that extending Bubba 2x is the same as hiring him.

Chaves defense of Bubba will be something to the tune of UND is one of 5 (making this number up) programs to make the FCS playoffs 4 of the last 6 years. I know he talked about that a lot last year.

I knew when I posted this that saying legacy wasn’t going to be well liked. I still think he did good for the university and elevated the program but we got to a point he couldn’t exceed. I mainly meant where he didn’t go out with such a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.

I just wish bubba wouldn’t have tarnished his legacy and stepped away on his own terms.

I don’t care what happens in the 2nd half, my opinion remains. It’s time to move on.
