UND, sitting at KenPom 308, wrapped up their MTE in Western Illinois with a split and now heads to take on a really strong Hawaii squad ranked KenPom 102. Hawaii is 4-2 with their only losses coming in tight games against Oregon and Arizona State. KenPom has them favored in every remaining game this season, which tells you how solid this group is. The Rainbow Warriors are led by 7 foot senior Isaac Johnson (#20) who is putting up 16.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while also showing he can step out and knock down a three. Behind him, former South Dakota guard Dre Bullock has been a reliable second option. He is averaging 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds and gives them another steady scoring threat. Hawaii’s defense is the real problem. They own the 25th best defensive effective field goal percentage in the country at 43.2 which makes them one of the tougher defensive teams UND will see all year. On paper, this has the potential to be a long night. KenPom projects the matchup as an 81-65 loss for UND. Tip is set for 11 pm local time and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.

No matter the opponent, winning a D1 game on the road is always a plus. I wonder how many people had Greyson Uelmen being our leading scorer through 8 games? Really like his game.

I thought I heard lisfranc -
How about Chad Braegelmann from SCSU?
-
Pretty sure Jones is our starting 5, when healthy. Not super excited but yeah.
-
Pulling Ouse’s shirt says a lot for what they think of Erikson, in my opinion.
-
Guessing his back is acting up. Might be a thing all season.

Last night was the most I have been able to watch this season but Garrett Anderson is a bit disappointing, in my opinion. Thought he was going to provide a bigger scoring punch.

Sorry. I’ve been slacking this year. I see Karson Ouse on the court. I think that’s his debut? Surprised by that.

Can I interest you in a Mrs. Tupac?

UND Fighting Hawks Versus SDSU Saturday November 22nd

I mean even if Mason is able to go, isn’t part of his game being a dual threat? With his injury that’s seems unlikely. I guess he hasn’t rushed as much as expected when looking at stats but I just don’t think he’s the game breaker that Payton is. -
Rumor floated for Mier was $700k? Wtf. I mean if that’s the case, yeah go for it. I was thinking in the $10k to maybe $40k range. NIL is nuts. But whatever, I prefer Uelmen and AS3 anyways.

How much money do you think he got there? Xavier is a basketball school so I’m sure he got something and almost for sure more than anything we could or would have given him but I doubt it was life changing type money. I guess if riding the line is your thing, cool. Edit: I do see that he had a broken toe that may be part of the reason he hasn’t played much. Coming on slow.

I’ve wondered this as well. I like Fruechte for the most part but man I was frustrated Saturday with some calls. Feels like when Schmidt retained him it could have been a way to keep some continuity within the program but he wasn’t his guy.
-
For that philosophy, I think Bothun is your guy. I’ve heard he’s one of the better shooters on the team. Not sure he will provide much else though.

I want to see what Micah can do going forward after getting healthy. 1 - AS3 or Uelmen 2 - King 3 - Anderson 4 - Micah 5 - Jones Off the bench: 1 that isn’t starting, Marley and Kraft. Will need Gugas, Bothun or Erikson to fill in some minutes too but I don’t see any of them being fully in the 8 man rotation. Just my 2 cents.

Someone to keep an eye on.

That’s a pretty small lineup.

I know there’s hesitation with any ND kid after the Bismarck debacle but this is back to back really solid HS classes. Will they ever play here under Sather? TBD.

UND went down to Alabama and lost 91-62, but hey, they did cover the spread. I didn’t get to watch much of it, so not a ton of breakdown here, but sounds like it went about as expected. Now UND (KenPom 313) returns home for the home opener against UC Riverside (KenPom 275). Riverside is 1-0 after rolling NAIA school La Sierra 90-49. They bring back just one real contributor from last year, #7 Parker Strauss, who averaged 3.3 points and 2.4 boards, so it’s tough to know exactly what this group is yet. Looking at their opener (with the NAIA opponent disclaimer firmly in place), a few guys stood out: - #12 Andrew Henderson, a 6'5" senior transfer guard, played 34 minutes and put up 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists while going 7-17 from the floor (3-10 from three). - #9 Osiris Grady, a 6'9" forward, added 17 points and 8 boards in just 24 minutes. - #10 Marqui Worth Jr., a 6'3" sophomore guard, went for 16 points and 6 boards in 35 minutes. So, like us, Riverside is kind of a mystery right now. A bunch of new pieces and hard to read too much into their first game. KenPom has UND winning 77-76, which feels about right. Good chance to get a D1 win at home and build some early momentum. My guess is we’ll see a slightly different starting lineup than we did at Bama since it sounds like there might have been some disciplinary things there. Get to the Betty tonight at 7pm if you can, otherwise it’s streaming on the Summit League Network. Let’s see if we can grab that first W.

Are we all in agreement that UND has to win at least 2 of the next 3 games to guarantee a spot in the playoffs? I feel like going 1-3 down the stretch to finish 7-5 is far from a lock of us getting in. I only ask this because I’ve heard others not as concerned about making the playoffs as I am.

Isn’t Hooker still?

It’s been a long time since UND has had a big I trusted. Fil was probably the last one? T had some moments but then would disappear.
