What are some realistic numbers for Studsrud. I don't see him putting up huge passing number, but he will need to be efficient and limit mistakes. Really hoping he has had significant improvement and gain confidence over last season. I understand he was really thrown into the mix last year without being ready, but hopefully we don't see those types of numbers at any point this season. Really excited for the season to start, and hope to see some surprises from this group; both as a team, and with individual performances.

Not understanding all the quotes ... Are there comments to go with those?

I don't live in the region anymore, and don't see all of this news. Not sure what you are referring to, but it doesn't sound pretty. Frankly at that point I don't really care about University affiliation; actions like that speak loudly about the individual not the school. I don't recall any sort of character test when I applied for school, they go purely off of academics. Students all over the country would be rejected from colleges if character/personality was in the equation. Ted Kaczynski was accepted to Harvard, then Michigan, and taught at CAL. Wouldn't change my opinion of those schools based on him. Everyone wants their alma mater to be painted in the best light, but unfortunately every school has those who tarnish the name.

Hey, lets not go there. Lets not associate the dumb action of someone with an entire campus of students. We all know there are moron students at every school. We'll see what comes out of this, but I don't think anyone condones physical assault, certainly because of sexual orientation. Personally I think drunk kids who get in fights for no reason are morons, but if you are really going to target someone because of their sexual orientation then you deserve whatever comes your way, I don't care where you go to school. Now if we're going to insult school based on sports teams that one thing, lets leave the rest of the crap elsewhere.

Sort of ... they are legal .... just not if you play for UND ..... not if you play against NDSU ...... not if you are tackling Carson Wentz ....... and not if he has a high ankle sprain.
-
I think it has been said enough on here that if Wentz is THAT injured, he has no business on the field. If he does, it is at his own risk. The game is also played at a fast pace, and I don't think any player is going to go out there focusing solely on Wentz ankle. You have taken one post from the message board and completely derailed it into the entire UND fanbase being the bad guys, as though we have any control over what coaches do or do not do. And enough with the Bison fans are angels and would never say anything wrong stuff. There are plenty of obnoxious fans in every fanbase, even UND, and even the Ag School.
-
This was exactly the point I was trying to make to him. Pretty much in one ear and out the other. He is ranting over on Bisonville about how he hopes Wentz doesn't play against UND, cuz apparently one posters comments are indicative of not only the entire fanbase, but also the game plan of the coaches. Ridiculous.
-
Let the fans underestimate us, but I guarantee the coaches won't. Kliemann is their coach because he is smart enough to take it one week at a time. Will UND be NDSU's toughest opponent, probably not, but I think it should be a competitive game, and I think our Def (as shown on paper) should give them a hard time (we'll know more after we have seen our boys play a game). I don't think they are totally wrong in saying that Stick needs to get some reps, and would be better to do that against teams who have not proved to be dominant yet. I hope in a year or two UND is considered dominant, and I think we are moving in that direction, but we are not there yet. As for an injured player, especially a QB, let him fully heal, or he could end up with a lingering issue the entire season. Can't wait for this game. Hope it is entertaining and competitive, but even if it goes pear shaped, it will still be fun.

Not disagreeing with you. I guess when I said you don't target the angle, I meant more, don't go out there taking cheap shots to hurt, re-injure, extend the injury of a player. Truth is, I wouldn't want to see my team taking cheap shots against anyone injured or not. I think we are on the same page relating to go hard after the player, especially if they are willing to take the risk and play. I'm just not for playing cheap to injure, not that I think most people are.

We were having a 3rd birthday party for my daughter, so I didn't get to watch the game as closely as I normally would. Completely missed that part. Which quarter?
-
Hahaha hilarious, I almost made a karate kid reference
-
Does anyone know at what point in the game the injury happened?
-
There wasn't a single person that didn't get pissed when the Iceland player took that monster chop at Adam Bank's wrist right after he came back from a wrist injury!! Or when Gordon Bombay got taken out with the knee injury!! Intent to injure is not cool!!
-
Seems like this issue can probably be put to rest. Did NDSU make it out of that game fairly healthy, other than the Wentz injury?
-
In a sense, but there is forcing the QB to hurry on an injured ankle, then there is actively trying to dive at, or attack, that same ankle. I guess the best way to look at it is if the intent is to force the QB to be uncomfortable (ex. run or scramble on a bad ankle) OR is the intent to re-aggravate, re-injure, or extend the injury of the player. I think there is a pretty obvious difference, and what is acceptable vs what is not is pretty common sense. Unfortunately, it seems like some posters don't understand this. If you are walking on the field with a sole purpose of injuring someone, you have no business out there.
-
Hahahaha a Bison fan just posted a 41 point spread on Wyonation for the UND/Wyoming game. Hilarious ... If that were to actually happen, we would be doomed for the season!
-
Sampson said the same thing, he has no issue with players targeting an injury. Point is every fan base has people on both sides of the argument. Personally, I agree with you; I am NEVER for intentionally going after someone direct injury. If it happens, then it happens, but to go out with the intent of injuring or re-injuring a player is just seems wrong.
-
Right? Which is why I didn't understand when someone came in hear talking about class based on 1 satirical post. That being said, even with a hated rivalry, I would never advocate for any player on any team to intentionally injure another player. Personally, I hope Wentz plays against UND, and I hope he has a terrible game, but I certainly don't want to see a kids get injured (especially intentionally). The kid has draft potential and NFL size, so I would like to see him stay healthy for his own future.
-
Anyone find the humor that there are Bison posters on here talking trash about UND lacking class, then other Bison posters posting this nonsense (stay classy. Just makes my point that one person's post does not speak for an entire fanbase.
-
I don't think that is what he was saying. It is pretty clear to see the difference between playing the game hard, and targeting an injury. Just go back to the Vikings/Saints game with Brett Favre. I think the bigger argument here, is that one persons post (which I took to be satirical) doesn't represent everyone. If players go out and hit hard, and Wentz get re-injured, that is a risk that Wentz and the coaching staff take. If Wentz gets injured because UND is diving at his ankles every single play and hitting late, that is a seperate issue. I don't think this is going to be the case, and I think one satirical post is being taken completely out of context and completely blow out of proportion.
-
Read my post, I agreed with what you said about rushing a QB. And I didn't click on the link, but generally when someone writes a post addressed to a coach, ON A MESSAGE BOARD, it is meant to be satirical. Do you think Sic really posted it there to get the attention of a coach so that they could implement it? There are a lot of reasons to dislike an opposing fan base, but I really think you are stretching here. I'm sure if you ask anyone one this message board how that really feel about coaches, programs or players who target injuries there would be an overwhelming response against it. And if you do get a poster who says that is an acceptable way to get an edge, that says more about that poster than it does about you, me or either program. As long as it isn't the coach saying it, who cares? Every fan base, in every sport, has some morons that would actually want to see opposing players get hurt (Yes, even NDSU). But who cares, just ignore them. I've run into some really stupid NDSU fans, it certainly isn't reflective of the entire fan base or the program. I've also met plenty of awesome Bison fans. People I can't wait to see and hang out with during tailgating in Fargo.
-
So you think one person's comments identify an entire program and fanbase? Even you aren't that stupid. I agree that targeting a player's injury would be a horrible thing to do, and I also agree that making that extra effort to rush the QB because they are injured makes sense. If a player is going to try to play injured, they are giving up a competitive advantage, and the defense will try to use that against them; but that also doesn't advocate intentionally going after that players injury. I have to imagine Sic's comments on the "gator ankle death roll" were intended to be somewhat satirical, and if not then that is somewhat unfortunate. Either way, let not generalize an entire fanbase on a single comment, which may or may not have been taken out of context; then take it to the next step and base your entire opinion of scheduling a specific school on that same individual comment. It is simply putting way to much stock in a message board post. That being said, it is a fast paced game, and depending on where Wentz is with the high ankle sprain, he certainly is taking a risk going out there if he is not 100%. I can't imagine the coaching staff would EVER actually direct players to intentionally try to go after an injury. You probably need to calm down a bit on this one.

Yes, take the trash talk to a different thread. Does anyone know how the passing game has been progressing recently? Curious to know if Studrud is making an more progress, or if he is looking about the same. Really hoping our passing game develops this year, it would be nice to see us be able to test Wyomings young defense. Also think, as was shown on Saturday, that passing will be essential against the Bison.
-
Any new practice or player updates? I know there were some injuries to the RBs in camp, mostly minor .. do we expect everyone to be back and ready against Wyoming? I know Oliveira and Smith haven't had their shirts pulled (yet), will they make the trip? Anything new on the QB front; I know Studsrud will start, but how has he looked? Is he continuing to build chemistry with receivers? Is he looking more consistent? Or are we still seeing small mistakes and missed receivers? I don't expect him to be Braeden Hanson, but it would be nice to have a competent air game, especially against a young WYO defense.

Good clarification, I think alot of people just assume this is like a rolled ankle. Its not. If they think he may be able to play against Weber, I wouldn't expect this to be overly severe, BUT I've seen this be a lingering issue with some NFL player. You hear they have a high ankle sprain, and their return can be 2 weeks or 10 weeks. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens, but for this kid's sake, and his future, I hope he heals and gets back on the field soon. A lot of eyes on him this season. https://www.aofas.org/footcaremd/conditions/ailments-of-the-ankle/Pages/High-Ankle-Sprain.aspx How long is the recovery? As mentioned above, the recovery for high ankle sprains can take considerably longer than typical ankle sprains. In fact, it can take six to seven weeks before athletes return to play. In those cases in which a separation of the tibia and fibula or fracture has occurred and surgery is necessary, patients will likely need to be nonweightbearing in a cast followed by a walking boot for about 12 weeks. It is important to do early range of motion passively, meaning with the help of a therapist that moves the ankle, so help avoid stiffness. The screws are commonly taken out in a second, small surgery before full weightbearing is allowed so they will not break. Outcomes are generally good if the injury is recognized and treated appropriately. It is more likely, however, to have some stiffness of the ankle after a high ankle sprain as compared to a standard ankle sprain. This is especially true if a fracture has occurred.
