  1. UND will continue to be picked low until they prove they deserve to be picked higher. Hopefully that will come to fruition this year. Can't blame and media writer for picking Montana St high, they have been a successful team. I am personally very high on this team right now. I like how Bubba has coached, I like the players he is bringing in, and I think this season will be another good step forward. That being said, taking the right steps is not enough for a writer to hand them a high ranking and outstanding record (though I do think he low balled their record). Ultimately, this is a season to take the next step and surprise some people. Put up some good wins on the field and UND won't be as overlooked next season.
  2. Can't wait for the University to be rid of that guy. Just keep appeasing the PC crowd.
  3. Anyone hear anything new on Matthews? Likely would not land at UND, but I haven't seen anything new on his work permit in Switzerland, or if he will opt for the WHL or NCAA.
  4. Could someone elaborate on the "Track it down Marge" quote. I'm clearly missing a joke here.
  5. Well that sucks if it is true. Really liked the guys energy. Major bummer to have a kid leave right before camp, but maybe there were some personal or family reasons in there.
  6. I understand what you are saying, but you shouldn't generalize everyone who likes "North Dakota" into the "Fighting Sioux Forever" camp. Personally, I like just North Dakota, because it is better that the other options (in my opinion). Now, will I always refer to the team as the Sioux? Yeah, probably. But I will do that regardless of what name is chose. I just don't see myself saying "I can't wait to watch the Fighting Hawk game this weekend". They were always Sioux to me, and always will be. As for an "official name" and what will be on the merchandise ... I just like North Dakota better than the rest of the garbage.
  7. Not looking for play by play Just wanted to know how long it had been. I figured it wasn't any time too recent, though I know there have been some close ones. Hopefully, this will be a game to remember.
  8. This game should be a ton of fun. Even with the rivalry being absent for so many years, I think the players will be pretty amped up for this game. UND has something to prove, and NDSU will want to run them out of the stadium. I think there will certainly be enough hype generated leading up to this game that player will have a grasp for what this means to (most) fans. Fargodome is going to be jacked up and a very loud environment. Anyone know when the last time is they lost at home? This will be a very tall order for UND, but it should be a fun one.
  9. Sooo to sum up, they need to play a complete game to compete. Can't wait for some football!
  10. No need to be so rude. I don't think there is any question that Bubba seem to be a more active recruiter that Muss was. Vast majority of UND fans seem to like what they are seeing from a recruiting standpoint. Now we have only seen one season out of him on the sidlines, so this season should be a strong indicator of where Bubba is taking this team. Now I'm not the biggest fan of the Alerus Center, but there are far worse facilities, and with the IPF, UND is making nice strides in facilities. Finally, I think before some of the Bison fans get too self righteous, they need to remember there was a time where their fans didn't even think Bohl was going to get the job done. I think we have all see how that worked out. Now I'm not saying Bubba will have the same success rate as Bohl did, or the same number of National Championships. BUT I do think that before people start bashing his process, coaching and recruiting you need to wait and see what he does. I do think that Bubba has more of an edge to him that was missing with Muss, and while Muss certainly hit big with a few recruits/transfers, I think Bubba is going to have far more success across the board; not just with a few big players.
  11. Love the direction that Bubba is taking this program.
  12. Any idea if he had any other offers?
  13. Know much about him? I'm not usually a fan of these undersized running backs.
  14. Should be worth noting that while kelley said he will reconsider no nickname, that does not mean his consideration will extend as far as actually keeping this in contention through the public vote. Or that even if it were to win a public vote, that he wouldn't go another direction. In his final decision.
  15. Lighten up buddy. Like I said I was just joking and takin a shot at the president (as big a fan of him as I am of sundogs)
  16. Well it has been fun discussing and debating, but it is definitely time to head to the lake. Go North Dakota!
  17. thats cute, I was just joking around and trying to through a shot at Obama and the rest of this country's "leaders", and you went and looked up a bunch of historical dates (which I'm not even going to read through). I get that these people are the "experts" and have more insight that myself on the issue as a whole, but I will not let anyone tell me what my opinion should be. My Opinion: If we could have remained Fighting Sioux with no sanctions; I would have wanted that. Now that UND/North Dakota/No Nickname has been fine over the past few years. I prefer to stick with it. My preference is to not adopt a new nickname and remaing just University of North Dakota; barring the NCAA clearly stating (not people on this board trying to make interpretations) that No Nickname/Remaining just UND or North Dakota is unnacceptable and will result in the same sanctions as remaining Fighting Sioux Nobody needs to agree with this, but it is my opinion. Given the chance to vote on it, I will.
  18. I have to say, I was not a fan of Nanne for a while, especially with trying to lure Parise away, after committing to UND, but I have warmed up to him a little bit with listening to him talk on KFAN, and if you ever want top notch hockey talk, listen to Nanne and Phil Esposito talk about old time hockey when they are on Barreiro on KFAN. That is fun hockey talk.
  19. I get what you are say, but in some regard that is like telling me align my opinion to do as the president says, because he knows more about how the government operates. No thanks. I like my opinion and given the opportunity to vote my opinion. I will do so.
  20. The nicknames I preferred were dropped long before the final 15 or whatever the number was and I was felt the same before and after they did that. The committee followed the processes laid out for them, that's why I have no issue with them. They ranked the nicknames at least twice with "no nickname" being the lowest scoring of what remained, I'm not sure how keeping it on the list at that point made sense. My issue with how Kelley handled it is that he openly undermined the committee. I guess I didn't think about the fact that the process did state he had the ability to add names to the final list, but to add something that saw more debate than anything else, scored consistently low from the committee and was voted out isn't quite how I saw him using that power. I understand the issue there. You would have though that this would have been largely discussed behind closed doors before the option was removed by the committe (and maybe it was). You would also think Kelley would have consulted with the committee before today's announcement. I did like today's announcement, but I AM NOT, nor have I ever been a fan of Kelley. Though, I can't say I think the voting of the committee is a accurate representation of the school's stakeholders; otherwise I think we would have seen Nokota or something else in the mix over Sundogs. When the Fighting Sioux nickname was dropped, a group of people that fully knew the sanctions that would be placed on UND, did not care and chose to insist that the Fighting Sioux nickname be kept (and some continue to this day). That is not someone who can honestly say they support the University of North Dakota. To claim to be a fan and then voluntarily and intentionally supporting something that places the school at a disadvantage is mind-blowing. I do understand what you're saying, I just don't have the same opinion. I want the University of North Dakota to have every advantage possible. Also understandable. I think that when Fighting Sioux was dropped, some people went a little far to try and hold onto it. Though their passion is admirable, th PC crowd sadly won that fight. Animosity towards the extremists is understandable, as I don't believe holding onto the Fighting Sioux name would be worth the damange to the school of losing competition and being punished. But I do think there is a line, where we don't bend over and take it from the NCAA or the PC crowd. The name is gone, and there is nothing offensive about the state name. I think we actually think along similar lines, just have a different end opinion.
  21. Kelley gets a -2 just because.....he is Kelley and this is how he operates Bahahaha, I like this one.
  22. I agree, definitely a passionate fan base about hockey, and the nickname. Though I do think the school is trending in the right direction. Passion for football and basketball will come with winning. Something that hockey has had alot of so you can completely blame that crowd. But I definitely understand your frustration. that being said, the passion that goes towards this nickname is somewhat of a seperate issue from the lack of passion about non-hockey sports. again, I think it will trend in the right direction, especially with football. I also agree on calling the bluff of "potential donors". Not everyone who says they will pull funding, has or ever will donate, or donate a significant amount. BUT the University does need to consider their options and weigh out the possible ramifications of alienating a certain portion of their fan base/alumni/ticketholders/etc. Simply state, this process has been way overdone. Nevertheless, the school needs to see it through for finality; and needs to do so carefully. They need to appease the NCAA (however that may be nickname/no-nickname - I'm not looking to stir up that debat on this thread), they need to appease their athletes, they need to appease their stakeholders. This will not be universal appeasement, but they need to find a good balance.
  23. Since Kelley get the final say regardless of what the committee does, as was always stated, I'm intrigued by this. I could be wrong, but it seems like you are ok with the committee because they voted out the No-name option, and Not ok with Kelley because he chose to change that. An option that was always on the table. Now I'm not agreeing with the way this has all been handled. I voted 1 across the board, but your assessment of the process as a whole seems very skewed by who agrees with your opinions and which outcome supports what you want. To say those people are not supporters is harsh. I think those folks just feel betrayed by an institution that they feel has turned its back on them. Not agreeing with them, but I think they just feel "You turn your back on me, I'll turn my back on you". Again, I don't agree with this, but to say they aren't even fans or supporters is a bit harsh. I guarantee none of these people do that light-heartedly.
