  1. Once Fleck lost a big game to Wisconsin, he was immediately eligible to be a coach for the Gophers.
  2. Ill take the win, but that was hideous. Should have been up by 20 at half if our guys would finish their shots. Drick has looked careless with the ball. Shanks hook shot is more of a fastball. Collins has taken some really stupid foulds. Even Crandall had some pretty ugly layup attempts. Avants is a stud. Hooker finished the game nicely, but his shot has been off lately. I like they fast tempo game, but when the shot aren't falling they need to slow it down and stop forcing terrible shots/passes. Good news is UND absolutely has talent to win and beat good teams. Bad news they haven't played up to their talent level yet and have looked inconsistent. Hope they can keep getting some W's until they find their rhythm.
  3. Gophers had the talent to be a better team than they were this year. This whole recent debacle aside, Claeys just isn't a Big 10 caliber head coach. He got the position as a result of what happened with Kill. I would like to think a better coach would have beaten Oregon St and Colorado St by more than a TD at home (whatever, a win is a win), Closed out the game by Penn St, Beat Iowa at home (Both games they were in and could have won), even beat Wisconsin considering how they played the first half (Wisco made adjustment, the Gophers did not). Given the schedule, this probably should have been a 2 loss team. Coaching was part of the problem (not all). Credit where credit is due, Claeys is also responsible for a tough defense that kept some of those games close. I also don't think Leidner helped the team's case all that much. I know Gopher fans tend to love the kid, but I'm just not a fan. He is big, physical and can run ok, but I'm just not a fan of his arm or his decision making when he passes. I know some of the draft board put him in the first round (at least early this season), I just don't get it. Heck, some people compared him and Wentz, which I think is comparing apples and oranges. I doubt Mitch sniffs anything more than a 3rd string role in the NFL, but I'm no expert. Certainly wish the kid the best, I just haven't been a big fan watching him
  4. I have mediacom (Savage/Prior Lake Area) and the game looks like it will be on channel 7 or 806. Shows up as KSTC on my tv guide, but broadcasts the ASN games. Pretty sure this was the same channel the UND/BGSU football game was on for me earlier this fall. Usually get a few UND hockey games on this channel each season. The nchc.tv app works great through my roku, but there is a slight delay so I really have to avoid twitter while watching. So TV is certainly preferable.
  5. Agreed, and I obviously meant 4 year player, not 5 year player. UNLESS ... wait for it .... Gersich has a rockstar second half, the NHL decides not to allow NHL players to participate in the Olympics next year, Gersich take the season off to lead team USA to a "Miracle" Gold over a Tyson Jost led team Canada game. Then both come back the following year to lead UND to Nat'l Championship #11 (Because obviously they get #9 this year, and #10 next year). Plausible?!?!
  6. That was kind of my thinking as well. Size works against him, but he definitely has skill. I guess it just depends on if these guys want to play college or some AHL. Agreed, he should (and hopefully will) be a 4 year player. Kid could put up some monster numbers as a senior.
  7. Yeah, I was hoping Pogo would have a little more impact this year. Hopefully, he (and the rest of the boys) are prepared to step it up in the second half.
  8. I'm pretty sure I heard something on the radio that he has an ex-wife who gets a say as to where he lands; so I assume there is some sort of joint custody with kids. Have no confirmation on that, just speculation .... so a school in the upper midwest may be a good landing spot for him from that perspective.
  9. We could give him his own title: Volunteer Guru of Hockey Operations, Fundraising and Alumni Relations Might as well get Gwoz up here too: Volunteer Dasher Tester
  10. Agreed, I certainly hope he take the scholarship. We can always use more big guys.
  11. Would be cool if he came back to have some sort of association with UND Hockey, once he is done in Omaha. Not necessarily a coach, but you would have to think they could find some way of working him in at the University, that would be beneficial to the school. I guess a lot of that depends on how involved he wants to be, or how much/little he would want to work in retirement.
  12. So, it might be time to start using my college eligibility
  13. What are the chances we see Gersich stick around for 4 years? I am hoping for, at least, 1 more year from the kid, but having a guy like that for 4 years would be great.
  14. well, thats cute.
  15. I sure hope so, because I'm already dropping hints to my wife that we should look at taking a trip to Chicago this Spring. I'll just keep planting the seeds.
  16. Andries would have never picked UND anyway, but you do have to wonder, even if these kids wanted to leave, would some of there other offers still stand? Abojei was offered by Iowa St, but maybe they have filled the spot by now. Definitely interested to hear what is going on with Mafe, since he still hasn't committed anywhere. Same with Rousemiller, as we can always use some more big guys. I believe National Signing Day is Feb1 , anyone know how many more commits we can expect?
  17. Possibly, but I have a hard time believing they didn't know what was going on. There was enough that had been published to give you a flavor of what was going on. Also fair to say that what happened wouldn't have been kept silent from one player to another. That kind of stuff just doesn't stay secret on a team. Even so, its really tough to believe that the players were suspended, but the coach wasn't told why. Claeys would have been kept informed, but rather than talking to his team, he defied his employers, and goes on record in public support of what these kids are doing. That is some weak leadership right there. But lets say these kids didn't know anything at all (impossible the coach had no information), everyone sort of double down with their public twitter rant yesterday. Nevertheless, I think the U is better off without him. He seemed like kind of an idiot from the moment he was hired. Now Jerry Kill is showing off his true color as well. Sorry but these kids protesting the suspension of their buddies, after what went down, (to me), is no better than the kids that were protesting Joe Paterno's firing, after that happened.
  18. Probably a fair point, though its a pretty quiet time on the recruiting front. When does the dead period end?
  19. You understand that the President and AD were going to get fried for this either way, correct? They are in a position to take action for their students mishaps, and once those mishaps are made public the school has to deal with the fallout of the court of public opinion, which translates to school reputation and ultimately dollars for the University. Had the President and AD not suspended the player or fired the dimwit coach, they would have then been criticized for not taking action, and having a weak stance when their players were accused of sexual assault. Given the previous issues this school has had (Norwood Teague; The basketball players videos last year; the Wrestling team's drug incident) the President took a stance (IMO the correct one). These incidents have been piling up for the U, and it causes a ton of public embarrassment. Punishment is not solely dictated by the law, if it was then we could eliminate punishment for drinking in the dorms ... unless caught by a police office, we can eliminate all other University punishment, as these should be dictated by a court. We might as well eliminate the notion of school suspension and expulsions unless ordered by a judge. Sh!t, I should probably stop giving my kid a time out for "not playing nicely with their siblings". But you're right, I'm painting Millenials with too broad of a brush. C'mon Man. Protests and Boycotts are not acting Entitled, a generation of youth (Millenials) demanding free public education is acting entitled. A generation of youth (who took out more loans than they should have) and want their student debt repaid is acting entitled. Protest and Boycotts are great ... when you know what you are boycotting for. Boycotting for your buddies that ran a train on a girl, probably isn't a very worthy cause. Unfortunately, today's youth also tend to confuse the terms Protest and Riot, and half of those that are out there doing their "protesting" couldn't give you a straight answer as to what they are protesting. We're talking about a generation where kids are given "safe rooms" to be in because they didn't get the results they wanted in a Presidential election. A generation who, even when I was at UND, would bring dog and cats on campus during Finals week, to help "de-stress" the students. Good Lord, I know not every single person that is a "Millenial" is like that ... but how soft are we becoming.
  20. The student are not employees, but they still represent the university and receive benefits for playing for the university. They are still required to abide by a certain code a of conduct/ethics. They may not be technical employees, but even that could be argued in today's world where athletes want additional pay/stipend/etc. for playing sports. They can take whatever position they want, but they look like whiny babies boycotting the bowl game, unless they're players were reinstated and they received apologies from the AD and the President (wouldn't want any hurt feelings). Read the article I posted, they act like a hurt bunch of grade school kids. Saying the administration doesn't support the program, despite everything else that is being done to build the program (facilities?!?!?!), despite the scholarship money that these kids (excuse me, young men) are receiving. Honestly, if I was the new coach coming in, I would rather take a bunch of new Walk Ons that a good portion of these kids, that are willing to stand up for their buddies after some pretty disgusting acts were made public. As for the millennial generation, technically I'm a part of it. And no, the stereotypical millennial definition does not apply to everyone, but millennials are stereotyped for a reason. There is a large percentage of this generation that were raised with a Cry Baby, "don't hurt my feelings", "I'm Entitled", "It's my right", "I'll protest/boycott", "I'm offended" mentality. This group of kids is no different. My friends got in trouble, so I'm going to take my ball and go home .... Rather than, my friends did something really stupid, hopefully they learn from it and come back better people.
  21. What makes it even more of a Sh!#t show, is all of the fans and even some alumni that are so upset that Claeys got fired. IMO, the U finally made a smart decision. Players have a party resulting in alleged sexual assuauly (regardless of charges/no charges ... disgusting all around) Players "support" their teammates (and essentially their actions" by boycotting bowl game. (Kind of a middle finger from the players to boosters, donors, fans, etc) Coach supports players, for supporting their teammates, for deplorable actions at a party (Kind of a middle finger to his bosses, and those listed above) Coach and players back peddle and then say they are boycotting the lack of due process ( ) Administration fires coach ... but players and coaches can't understand why ... SMH Players are upset with the school for firing this guy and not supporting him, even though he couldn't support the decisions of the school. Players are upset with the school for moving on from this guy, even though their teammates ultimately put him in position to begin with. Players are upset that their coach is gone after a 9-4 season, but can't understand that coaches are accountable for more than just on field results. NOW, former Head Coach Jerry Kill is upset and states he will never step foot on campus again .... despite being the OC for another Big Ten team ... You just can't make this stuff up! Worth the read! http://www.twincities.com/2017/01/03/gopher-football-john-shipley-whos-to-blame-for-gophers-mess-apparently-anyone-but-the-players/
  22. Maybe we should merge the UNO Mavericks numbers with the MSU-Mankato Mavericks numbers to boost the self esteem of both groups? Just a thought ....
  23. Yep, there is a game on ASN, which fortunately I get in Mpls. I love the second half of the season, about half of the games are actually broadcast on tv. Though the NCHC.tv app on my Roku has been awesome! Just wish there was an app for basketball and football.
  24. Seems strange that Tom Miller can't get clarification on that. Seems to be a pretty straight forward questions that any coach could answer. "Yes, he got the RS and will play next year" or "No, he has not got the RS, but is still pursuing it. As for Clive, does anyone know what the timeline is on getting the RS approval? I would assume the process has to move somewhat quick to allow these kids to plan and register for school, but maybe not.
  25. Agreed, I don't actually want to burn a kids redshirt, and I hope they don't have to. I would prefer to see Taubs come back and have a strong season; but even more so, I just want to see the best player on the field. Hopefully the kid comes back strong next season.
