I think Minnesota is hoping their opponent on the playin game thinks so too. If they do, then Minnesota is in.

I'm going to miss all of them. Each had a great role with the team. Saw growth and value in each of them.. Ok, so this post probably belongs in a "Thank you Seniors" thread, but still... I can't imagine a UND team without a Jones on it... why, I don't know... I was a fan of the Sioux before Matt came to town... And I'm going to miss Watkins and Kozek too.

How does UMD tying UMN affect us? Or does it at all?
-
BTW- Toews with 2 goals tonight already. One was a deflection and one was a garbage goal that was downright lucky for Toews. He basically fanned on it and it took a lucky bounce. On the negative side, Huet has looked like a sieve...and responds with a great save. Oh well. In any case, Brian Lee was sent down today for Martin Gerber. Can't really blame either side. Brian played well, but Ottawa has too much money invested in Gerber.

Would I be a card-carrying Red Wing fan if I didn't take every pot shot at Colorado I could? I'm already on shakey ground because I respect the Blackhawks. Meh. Beating our goaltender wasn't hard. And Dan Cleary isn't exactly known for his defense. I've already said we may not get too deep into the playoffs, but at least we'll make the playoffs (earth to Colorado!)

WOW! The CCHA has again pulled a WCHA official screw up. An AR (I think) blew the whistle on a Too many men on the ice penalty... only to discover Miami had pulled their goaltender. Seriously... I thought there were 4 on the ice? Are none of the aware? BTW - I'd love it if they knew how to properly set the zoom. Or are they purposely trying to give the viewer the feeling of being in the nosebleed section if the game were held in Cleveland's NFL stadium (forget what it is called)

Is Bowling Green Considering Dropping Hockey?
redwing77 replied to star2city's topic in Men's Hockey
Actually, I see it being VERY detrimental towards UAA. I do think it will affect our recruiting eventually. They are right there when it comes to BC and Alberta. Even Saskatchewan isn't that far away. I don't want UBC. I don't want UAH. I don't want BGSU to go away either. -
I don't mean to belittle Zajac or Parise because they were really nice goals (Well... Zajac was a rebound goal but still) but.... it is Colorado we're talking about. They've evolved into the UMD Bulldogs of the NHL... and that's REALLY not fair to Stalock. To be fair, the only reason why they aren't the SCSU of the NHL is because Colorado has actually done something in the playoffs within the last... I don't know... well... nearly every year they make it. SCSU on the other hand...

SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play

Now I'll disagree with this. If you are a gritty defensive forward or a solid stay at home defenseman, the Mild won't be that bad. If you are a goalscorer or a play maker, I'd avoid the Mild like the plague. It's like the Texas Rangers of the NHL. Its where goalscorers go when their career scoring goals is to die. Kinda why I wonder what Koivu would be like on a team like San Jose, Detroit, Chicago, or even Washington. It's why Backstrom made the NHL All Star team. You don't know what you got in the Mild organization because everyone looks so mediocre except for Backstrom. If he gets injured, we're looking at floundering in the bottom half of the NHL. -
Yeah. I remember at one point investigating (though not very seriously) The Farce and what it would take to bring it back. I was under the impression that the chances were slim and none, and slim graduated the year before.
-
I think the Mild will squeak in. Backstrom and their defense at all costs playing style will stymie just enough to get them in. I just wish Koivu and Backstrom would get out of Minnesota. They deserve to be on teams that want to win games. I can't imagine what Koivu would be like on a team like Chicago or Detroit. OH! By the way, my "second favorite" goaltender did a great job the other night. Peter Budaj... what an effing sieve.

Is Bowling Green Considering Dropping Hockey?

UBC Hello Canadian schools. -
As a result of the nickname? Gosh, that's a blank check! Did they ever get a bad grade? Not get drawn in the ticket lottery? Not get seats to a UND event that they wanted? Here's your chance to throw it back in the face of UND! Hell, who cares if you went out partying the night before that test! Who cares if you never studied! Who cares if you just couldn't hack that subject! Who cares if the term lottery denotes some sort of odds-based selection criteria that automatically assumes that some will get selected and even more not! Who cares if buying tickets to an event is a first come first served thing! If it weren't for the nickname, everything would get better. Like playing a country music song backwards. Please, it is WAY too easy. Plus, those coming back to talk HAVE to have been hand selected by the pro-nickname peoples. Even if they aren't, they are under a lot of pressure to say what the tribal leaders want them to say. It's not even worth regurgitating on this board after the fact. Just sum it up like this: "All my grief and stress were caused by the nickname. I wish they'd change the name to make the University an even finer institution for all, not just the hateful racist whities. It is too late for me, but it isn't too late for the next generation."

I can't help but think that UAH is hoping for it. It would DEFINITELY help their cause. IMO, and I don't like wishing demise on anyone but... better UAH folding than BGSU. -
I agree. I think Eidsness has to be Bachman-esque in his freshman year in order to be 1st Team. Who's going to be 3rd team? I mean... Connelly by default? I honestly think that most of Connelly's success comes via the UW playing style. I think JPL and JPar benefitted in the same way. Sure, there have been a few games where Connelly has really stood out, but I dunno... I can't think of another WCHA goaltender that deserves it. Any way you cut it, it's a down year for the WCHA.

Off topic but funny.... On USCHO's Youtube thread, this was posted. I note it because McDonalds is known more for retarded ads than creative ones.

SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play

Is that classy? I mean, can a player decide that he's going to get injured? I mean, skateboarders and extreme sports enthusiasts can (or perhaps they're too stupid to not see that doing whatever it is they plan to do isn't conducive to a long life), but not hockey players. Tough breaks happen, but ripping him for it is simply...in my opinion... unacceptable. -

He was a 3rd round draft pick. There was talk of him being an even higher draft pick, but his health history didn't warrant the risk. I don't think Forney was ripped on as much as Finley/Lee/whoever, but he certainly was. Why would he be called a bust? Because he got injured? Didn't Martens take a while to break into the regular lineup? He may not be a draft pick, but I'd love to know how well the Sioux would be doing without him. So is he a bust? I hope Forney returns to UND, but I would not be surprised AT ALL if he took his skates and stick elsewhere. -

Well, versatility is highly regarded in today's world. I guess it would go for this type of thing as well. -

That's a nice way of putting it. -
I really don't know what to take of that article. It is cynical and vitriolic. It's not complimentary of NCAA nor is it complimentary of the CHL really. It's not complimentary of the recruiting process in general, regardless of league. What's his angle?

Siouxmama, that's his current photo!

I know what you are all thinking: RW77 is going to pop in here and say that the Hawks made the Mild look good and blast Huet. Well, you're half right (other than the fact that I'd have to wonder why you're thinking about me! Creepy...). Harding had a great game. However, the Hawks really really let the Mild win. The Mild seemed more undisciplined than usual. Also, 2 goals shouldn't be enough to beat a high scoring offense on a typical night. It wouldn't have beaten Detroit (so Minnesota scored 5 and embarrassed Detroit... seriously... goal scoring threats Martin Skoula and Stephane "Peelieux" Veillieux? Detroit deserved to lose). Oddly enough, Goon, Huet did pretty well. He still has a 5 hole the size of New Jersey. I'm only half caring now. Chicago probably won't go deep into the playoffs and the Wild are first round exits. I think Detroit will get to the semis before losing in 7 games to whoever. Our offense and PP is scary good. Our D is somewhat porous and our goaltending is... yikes.

I'm loving all this contraversy with officiating but I'm wishing it was last season with the Randy Schmidt fiascos. With that stuff going on, I think there may actually be consideration to make changes at the top. This year, Greg will come hat in hand and escape with his tail between his legs but still employed.

I know that Yale lost and that helps us, but how did the other results affect us?
