Apparently the DIII Council feels the same way as you do. That's why they cut funding for scholarships for the schools who feature DI hockey or other sports and all the rest, DIII. So, to that end, UND will NEVER EVER EVER go DIII with football even if DII goes the way of the Dodo. You need to realize that DII isn't all that screwed up. Look at the DIII Conference leadership committees. So, yes, I think it is wise that NDSU is moving everything D I-AA instead of piecemealing it. However, it is a choice that NDSU made. Just because they made that decision shouldn't mean that everyone should follow suit. Except for some bison fans that post here, would NDSU stand up to support UND's DI hockey program if it were put into jeopardy like Colorado College, RPI, and Clarkson (just to name 3 of the 6) have been since they are DIII schools with DI programs (We are a DII school with DI programs)? What I'm saying is: It could be worse. Let's get over this finger-pointing about NDSU and UND's football division decision making. I think, so far, the only sane person in this argument has been PCM (Gee, what a shocker ) As for the schedule making, let's put it this way: NDSU goes D I-AA and plays the conference schedule as per the usual course. For its non conference and exhibition games, they bring in what you would call "real" opponents and not "cupcakes" like UMC. So in come Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, and let's just throw in Northern Illinois University for kicks. Now, that's a tough schedule. Especially since every exhibition and non conference opponent in that schedule will annihilate the Bison. UMC is scheduled to come here to play us because sometimes each team needs a "pickmeup" in the schedule to boost morale (or if the team comes in and beats us, a reality check). Every team in every sport will schedule cupcakes to play for that reason. You shouldn't be questioning UND for scheduling games with UMC. You should be questioning UMC for scheduling games with UND.

I'm along the same lines as SFiP's opinion. From what I know about hockey fights, the worst position you want to be in is with your back against the boards. Then all the other guy has to do is to lean on you with one hand and go to town with the other. SFiP, thanks for telling me who the TB player was. BTW- It was in a losing effort. I just hope they don't give up on Hale like they did on Commodore (who may be turning into a bust )

It is definitely Brandt, Parise as 1 and 2. If they keep this game play up, perhaps we'll finally resolve that goaltending question. That glove save by Brandt. WOW!
-
Thanks, schmitty. Duncan was, by far, the most impressive player on the ice in both offensive and defensive modes. I do believe he scored one of the goals, but I'm not certain. Chorney was good too. I say, if we can get both of them, we'll look VERY good. But add Genoway and we'll be unstoppable
-
I have a reliable source that said that Taylor Chorney toured UND. No word on results. I do hope for the best. Heck, I hope Genoway and all come too.
-
It would have also been funny if they played the Dirty Bird or something like that (is that actually a song or is that just a dumb end zone dance?)
-
sagard, you are amazing. Thanks.
-
Sounds reasonable. Hell, I think it is going to really turn NDSU around. Babich would just make the Bison even more of a laughing stock.
-
So all you wizards out there: 1) How is that going to affect our ranking? 2) How will that affect our PWR?
-
What I don't get (still) is how Babich can do so poorly with the Bison and end up getting rewarded for it by getting to the NFL. I heard he had a friend in the Rams organization, but since when should that make a difference? Would a bison fan clarify this for me?

Again, the intro was very good. Only the music wasn't that hot. It may not have worked so well if we weren't playing BC though. Overall though, I say props to the people who do the video for at least listening to the fans and doing something about it. Their efforts are not going unnoticed.

Ummmm take it from someone who was there: It was not entirely the Sioux's fault. Especially on the SHG. Ok, we played sloppy. Ok, maybe we deserved to lose. But I have never EVER seen an officiating job done so poorly in my entire life! Yes, I'll even go so far as saying Derek Sheperd does a better job. The SHG came after a BC player tripped our player next to the net and made us pay for Anderson's stupidity. Again, penalties were being called on us and, when done the same way by BC, were not called. Don't let the score fool you, folks, Anderson decided the outcome of the game before the puck dropped. It's one thing to get thrown off one's game plan by an opponent. It's another thing entirely to get thrown off one's game plan by a ref. The officiating has to change. An apology has to be made because we did not lose this game based on what lead up to the second goal. We lost this game based on a biased and unprofessional officiating crew. Anderson, Freeman, and Hanson= Don't EVER EVER EVER come back to the REA again. You guys don't belong outside of High School or Pee Wee hockey. Hell, I'd even imagine the parents would eat you alive there too.

I went. Refer to my post under the NAHL tournement showcase thread

farce, if you recall last season versus Ferris State we had CCHA refs. They called Ferris for diving and I think it was Sweeney, went ballistic, saying "They called diving on Ferris State! THIS IS UNPRECEDENTED!" You are absolutely right. Diving is legal in the WCHA. Especially if you are the visiting team. I'm almost convinced the reason it is so lopsided here in GF is because they don't want to make it appear like there is too much of a home ice advantage for UND. Therefore the visitor gets all the breaks (diving and holding the stick are two very common non calls from last night). Hell, I thought I was going to give out an Oscar to one BC player who dove right infront of their penalty box against the boards. Usually when a guy gets hit or hurt, he goes down fast or slides down the wall if he backed into it. This guy actually tilted his head, leaned over, and did the "tree fall" We actually had time to yell timber! before he hit the ice. WOW! No call. For all you Sioux fans reading this boards, Anderson (if this is the same Anderson I'm thinking of) is historically WORSE on the second night. If you are a BC fan reading this board, get ready for some major help from the refs.

Ok folks, while most of us were probably at the Football game, I went to watch Shattuck take on Team NW. Shattuck won 8-3. Unfortunately, I have no idea who scored the goals for Shattuck but here are my impressions: Both goaltenders were not that spectacular letting in 3 goals each to start out. SSM could have been in trouble if Team NW employed SSM's strategy of throwing the puck on the net whenever they can. They didn't and the SSM goalie didn't see as much action. There was a LOT of penalties including 2 5-3s for Team NW (one of them for over a minute). Taylor Chorney, Tyler Eaves, Chay Genoway, and one other (whose name I can't remember but his number was 21), had very good games. #21 had a breakaway too. On an odd note: just into the third period, the Ref (Eslinger) left the game with a bloody nose. He returned later. For a while the linesmen did all of the calls. On the whole, this crew did a very good job reffing and allowed them to play hockey. SSM's penalties were mostly stupid penalties (especially those that put them on the 5-3). Eaves had at least 4 minutes in the box and Genoway had 2 minutes at least. SSM was faster than Team NW and very good with puck handling. A good majority of the goals went top corner far side of the net. Team NW did not control in front of their net very well, but their goaltender did ok for what he got despite the score. Watching this game made me realise that I'm not PCM nor am I a scout so I apologize for the lack of pertinent info.

I do think it was an improvement. Keep up improving it.
-
So the league negates that goal. He doesn't get a hat trick, Sioux win 5-4. Doesn't change the outcome That said, I still think he had an excellent game. No one mentioned how strong he was defensively too, deflecting a shot out of the zone on the penalty kill. Very good night both ways for Bo.

Judging by play, Parise gets the nod. HOWEVER, I think it was either PCM or Schmittdoggydog who said that Blais would be platooning Parise and Brandt and have Ziggy back up both games. For that reason, I voted for Brandt. And we should probably ask who deserves WCHA Rookie of the Week honors this week? Stafford or Parise? This week it's going to be a toss up. I wonder if Bochenski will make USCHO offensive player of the week or at least runner up.
-
I think PCM said it best when he said that this thread is just getting stupid. Spoiled victors taunting spoiled losers. Good grief.
-
bisonguy, I have to parrot everyone else and say thank you for your mature and sportsmanlike post. It's nice that one side can congratulate the other in a manner that is fitting of adults and not spoiled children who didn't get their way. I didn't get to see the game. I did go to watch high school hockey at the Ralph (post coming in hockey boards) instead. I'm happy that the Sioux won, but I have no other information than that. Hope this rivalry doesn't end.

He was VERY offsides. My seats are right at the blue line. VERY offsides but I guess the linesman nearest the offisides player wasn't watching closely.

For all you stat types, Does anyone know how many times UND has won a game when being outshot?
-
I was flabbergasted today as the crowd (meaning general public) actually got into the game. It seemed like half the crowd was mocking Anderson. I've never heard it louder. in the third period and for the short time we were down by one (twice). To answer the question: I would think that ESPN would have simply switched gears and started talking about what BC needs to do to beat UND tommorrow. They would barely acknowledge UND's victory instead calling it BC's loss. So, as far as being 20 minutes from an NC, I'd say this setback, by ESPN standards, has merely set it back 5 minutes. I still maintain that UND should get 3 points for this win. They had to beat the officials and BC. It's tough when home ice advantage is wiped out by officials.
-
It's neat that a team with only one line and freshman goaltending, one a turnstyle no less, beat the #1 team. I should head over to USCHO to read the fallout for that idiot.

Just my 2 cents, Any sports bar in a home town will show the home town team in the popular sport of the evening (or as many of them as they can get feed for). However, if there is feed that could be popular in a numerous subgroup (like Sioux fans in MSP) and the home team isn't playing or isn't televised (for some reason), then it makes sense to court the second choice attendees. Anything to keep people on the premesis. I applaud Sensers for knowing this philosophy and utilizing it.
