I agree. Defensive DMen are nobodies on INCH. So what? Saviano played good hockey. He scored a lot of goals and spent very little time in the penalty box. I'm ok with him being 1st team All American. I wonder how Bob Norton is taking the fact that the best goaltender in the world of NCAA hockey is only good enough to be a 2nd team All American

I think the best answer you are going to recieve will be: Whichever goaltender proves during the offseason and preseason practice periods to be the best bet to win opening weekend. If you want to look at past performance: Then JPar is your opening day goaltender for these reasons: 1) He won his first game of his UND career... on opening day. 2) He won every game he played in during the WCHA Tourney 3) 2 games 1 goal allowed in the NCAAs If JPar has a poor workout regimen during the offseason and struggles during preseason practices, Brandt will be the #1 But only Blais will know for sure.

Just so you know, Bertram and Toews have a little difference in scouting reports. Toews was 1st round, 1st overall. Bertram was 2nd round 1st overall. Things work VERY differently when you are a first rounder. And Rick, if it is not the consensus, then enlighten us. You're the first I've ever heard say Toews may not go MJ.

Can't you play in Major juniors until you are 21? That would cover Zach for next season....
-
PCM- No. The only way we can get decent goaltending back (apparently) is to petition the NCAA rules committee to allow unlimited eligibility and convince Karl to come back to UND And as for the WCHA title game, I have this question: When I looked at the replay of the G Potulny wrap around goal, the puck went five-hole on Brandt. I noticed that Brandt's stick was not square to the shooter. My question is: Is there a right way to face the blade of the stick when facing a shot? I've seen some goaltenders hold the stick so that the face of the blade is facing square to the puck. I've seen some hold the face at an angle. And Brandt was pointing the tip of the blade at Grant when he faced the shot. I believe if Brandt had held the stick square to the shooter, that puck wouldn't have gone in. Thoughts?

Comon, people sell themselves out to Trump on National television and you're ragging on Sid brownnosing with Steinbrenner? How easily you forget about those two teams. Steinbrenner wants to win so bad he'll buy anyone's mother if it means a world series ring. Pohlad would sell his own mother to make a buck. I don't blame Sid at all for hanging with the guy with the loose wallet.

Might have been asked in a previous thread, but... 43 . Portland : Justin Mazurek , D , ( 11/08/88 ) Calgary, AB Any relation to Chad? EDIT: Out of curiosity, are (or were) any current Sioux players drafted by any of the MJ teams?
-
When I saw Toews play at the Ralph I met a friend of the Toews family. From all accounts of what the guy said, Toews is going Major Junior.
-
I also heard this. Sioux have no shot at him and, from all signs, if we suddenly were interested, it would be too late. He was VERY sharp in the tourney, but he will be wearing some combination of maroon when he goes to college.

Curious: How did Matt Greene do in juniors? Wasn't he also in Green Bay?
-
Apart from maybe Taffe, Leopold, Ballard, and Martin, I'd really say the rest are roleplayers who play their roles rather well. I'm not saying those others are all poor players, I'm just saying that there could be a fair deal of people who are fans of college hockey that wouldn't know who they were even in uniform. The NHL Braintrust also thought Alexandre Daigle could play... 4+ teams later.... So, in all honesty, what has Taffe done in the pros thus far? Pohl? I know Leopold and Martin have been doing alright. I've never been a big fan of DeMarchi. David Hale had a better defensive ability than DeMarchi ever had.

I definitely think Spirko will be here in '04 now that Zach is gone. I don't see Spirko as a first liner, but definitely a second liner. Imagine with Murray and Spirko as the fleet skated members of their line. We're going to be FAST up top. I hope the others can keep up.

He's already stated that he's coming back.

I don't understand it much myself, but it was explained to me once before.

Nice article, but pretty standard. Doesn't say if Stafford would actually opt in. Also, wasn't there a rumor that the NCAA is looking at changing the opt in rule to allow players to still maintain eligibility if they opt in when they are in a similar situation as Stafford is in?
-
Ah, I disagree with you, sagard. Actually I shouldn't have to, being that you are a Gopher fan. Unlike Roche (who left too early), Ballard is a smarter defenseman and has some assets that make him a valued commodity. I say he has a 75 percent chance of playing in the NHL his rookiee season. 100 percent chance within 3 years of signing.
-
Why not? And, before someone else mentions it, let's put up a Mapletoft website. Perhaps we can graft a Sioux jersey onto him!
-
Chorney and Oshie are both Juniors in High School. They won't be in until 2005. Neither will Lee.
-
That is VERY disturbing. One would question that, just because it is Vanek with this website, that I am against it. Actually, despite the fact that I don't like Vanek, I would be equally perturbed to see a similar site about Parise. Now, a site about Ziggy or Bina, on the other hand....
-
I'm guessing no on the Scholarship for Ziggy. :/ And I think it would be: Bo-Genoway-Murray Porter-Stafford-Zajac Prpich-McMahon-Fylling Kaip--Massen-Spirko Defensive alignments are so tricky at the moment that I dare not try to figure them out. Look at our forwards, we're going to be DEEEEEP. Potentially, I even think we'll have more scoring next year than this year!
-
I would think you are right, CRR, I was just stating that the latest possible debut would be the playoffs otherwise, they wouldn't have really made a deal of the playoffs deal. ZPar is for real, folks, and he'll make it soon enough. And I don't think Zach was dissatisfied with UND. He was more dissatisfied with how the officials treated him more than anything. Zach is a great guy.
-
A Mind game. I think the abruptness of which ZPar left UND, the rumor of his ire about the performance, and the money that he's seeing could pose issues with on ice performance. Hence why Lam is holding ZPar out of the lineup at the time. ZPar MIGHT even spend one game with Albany just to get the flow of the pros. Lammoriello knows what he is doing. The fact that ZPar is eligible to play in the playoffs tells me right away that the latest I could forsee ZPar maknig his NHL debut would be the first game of the playoffs. And I think he'll wear #9.
-
I wonder how JPar is taking it. I'd think it would be exciting to win an NC with little bro. And all this happens when JPar was finding his groove. I hope he retains it over the off season....
