I mind the penalties. How did they score most of their goals last night? You NEVER give a team with a good powerplay an opportunity to showcase it. That would be like throwing an underhanded pitch right down the center of the plate to Barry Bonds. He's going to swing and most of the time, it's in McCovey Cove. We did tie up the game. We need to come out next period and keep up the pressure and stay the hell out of the box. They can do this by scoring on the PP. They can do this by playing simple hockey. NO MORE LONG PASSES. We can't make them work. We need to go to short passing, keep it simple and fundamental hockey.

Let's see. 1. Prpich sits out 2nd period. Yup. You play stupid hockey, you don't play. 2. Finley is on thin ice. So is Zajac. DISCIPLINE DISCIPLINE DISCIPLINE DISCIPLINE!!!!!!!! The Gophers are yapping. If you had dominated like they have this season, wouldn't you? SKATE AWAY! Play stupid hockey: YOU WILL LOSE GUARANTEED. Better period than last night but seriously, these penalties are basically the Sioux players' way of saying "GO GOPHERS!!!"
-
Totally and utterly shameless. I am shocked and appalled at such behavior! (I love the clock thing on your website. Too bad the music that plays isn't that good... but I'm not a fan of that group)
-
Yeah, the whole Kessel thing is overblown, just like the Sidney Crosby thing is in the NHL. Right now, Sidney is doing very well, but Ovechkin is doing better and, at this point, is the front runner in the Calder Trophy.
-
Heh. The game was over in the 2nd period. Right when the Gophers went up 3-1.
-
I guess we need to label every player in DI hockey criminals then. If time on the clock doesn't matter, then I'm sure nearly every player in D1 has fired a shot into the stands at one point.
-
Ouch. There goes that "after the game" argument.
-
Let's rehash here: 1. Phil made a mistake. We're sure he knows it and that it is more than likely been addressed. 2. The Gopher fan who caught the puck had a smile on his face, therefore no one was hurt. So the question is: Do we make a big deal of this or do we say that Phil made a mistake and move on? Right now I see we're 50/50. So what do you 50% that don't want to move on want to happen? If Jordy is still hurt do we play Walski? If we play Walski, are we content with a Gopher sweep? Because I'll guarantee you that's what will happen. It might happen anyways, but I know the best person on the ice last night was Phil so I think benching him for a good overall performance because he made a mistake after the game is just flat out stupid. So, really, seriously, what do you want to see happen?

Maybe it was both? Last year's team was senior laden, sure. This year's team is freshman laden. Should Hak change things? Yes. I don't think anyone here would disagree with you that there needs to be some changes in play on the power play or even in the offensive zone. But saying that there needs to be a change of coaches is a little more harsh than saying that the coaching staff needs to address the problems on the ice. I'd rather see Hakstol and staff make those changes than UND make a coaching change.
-
2-1 in OT means they outplayed the men's team.
-
SiouxMeNow- What? You mean that UND doesn't want to pay for the service that they are charging people for currently? I guess that's legal, but it does explain everything. As for the webstreamed radio feed, I believe it is streamed onto the internet by 96.1 FM in Grand Forks. I believe they do the same for their music during all other times so I'm sure their end isn't that bad. I really do think it has to do with the people actually on the scene (not TH, but the tech crew on site) especially when the Sioux are on the road. They seem to not know how to get it to work very well and it also seems like they don't have the budget to keep equipment that is state of the art and/or reliable. It really is operating on the cheap. It is very depressing to think that GVSU's webcasting program and even UAA or UMD's radio feed are more reliable given the size of the markets they are in. But, you have to spend money to get quality and that doesn't seem like something they really want. If it works 90 percent of the time, that's good enough for UND and Clear Channel.

More of a general statement. No offense was intended.

Hmmm when has Hak outcoached anyone? How about last year starting at about this time? He outcoached Lucia 3 out of 4 times last year. He took a team and outcoached BC, who was the #1 team in the nation. I will say that Hakstol should be judged after his contract and say that it is truly sad that ONE GAME can have someone who has been through bad years with Blais, Gino, and everyone in between calling for his head. a year and a half head coaching experience... Isn't it a little soon to expect domination akin to Scotty Bowman in the NHL? TIME is needed. If you aren't willing to give Hakstol time, then I highly suggest you take NDH up on his offer because you're not going to be happy watching a team who has faith in Hakstol as well as the majority of Sioux fans.
-
Why are you justifying yourself to him? The only reason why he posts here is to flame and berate the Sioux and their fans. Just put him on ignore and go on with rooting for your team (even if it is the Gophers).

dagies, Good points. Got some comments on your player thoughts. Stafford did work hard, but he did the same thing again that got him "in trouble" in the last series: He tried to do everything himself. Zajac was alright but pretty much nullified. Oshie... well, when I was watching the game it looked like the Minnesota defense spent a LOT of time trying to nullify him. And this is where I was disappointed in Toews, Porter, and anyone else who was on the ice. Oshie was routinely getting two men covering him. That's two less covering Porter and Toews. I think they should have done something to capitalize on Oshie's double team. Toews: Apart from what I said above, I really don't think he played that poorly. He was one of the only players who won faceoffs last night, he had a pretty darn good scoring opportunity that I believe Briggs got a piece of othwerwise it was top shelf glove side. And he did this with a Gopher draped all over him. I think he'll look better. Porter actually had one of the best opportunities before the Fabian goal that I saw. He just couldn't get it past Briggs from close in. Otherwise, I didn't notice him much. It's a sad thing for me to say because I've always been really big on Porter. Watkins- Sure he worked hard but his attempt to play the puck lead to a Vanelli goal. He needs to be more solid than he was defensively last night. Fabian and Prpich I thought had decent games. Prpich's double minor was only grating because, really, Goligoski should have gotten an extra 2 as well for elbowing. Funny thing is that retaliation is a penalty but the initial hit is legal. Can't figure out why that is. Foyt: He was NOT playing well even before the major. Losing sight of the puck is NOT a good idea when you are in the defensive zone. He's a walk on defenseman that I'm happy isn't playing any defense. Foyt's major penalty WAS a 5 minute major. It did appear as though Foyt was definitely trying to arrest his forward progress towards the Gopher player but it was too late. It was a call Campion had to make and, according to the rules, was a good call. If the crackdown wasn't in effect, I'd've still called Foyt for boarding. Powerplay: You are absolutely right dagies. It was pathetic. I can't believe no one wants to shoot the puck! I'm no expert and I get flamed a lot more than you do, but you are right! Why not try to get something going by collasping the umbrella? Or perhaps getting two players in front of the net and taking a shot? I don't know, but Briggs, even when he's been a sieve, hasn't been a sieve from the point. Get close in on him and he'll be much more vulnerable. Chorney's shot that went above the goal on the PP had me yelling at the TV "Thank you Taylor! Thank you for not being afraid to shoot!" PK: We did make mistakes on the PK and it cost us nearly every time. Finley: He DID look good last night even though I wouldn't have checked Kaufmann after the whistle. He was lucky Evan retaliated. I like how he was blocking shots. Blocking shots: We did do well up until the last 2 minutes of the major penalty in this category. Phil did do well. And if he skated away from his teammates I hope they paid attention. It was pathetic out there. Chorney and Jones did play well. I think Radke just needs to play the game. He also isn't afraid to shoot on the PP. Despite what happened tonight, I hope Hak plays Kyle tonight.

No I didn't. They out finished us. Meaning, they took the opportunity to score on most of their chances.
-
I see your point. However, really, what has the AD done to us that makes them worthy of trust and a positive outlook? They've taken things away from us since before the REA was built! They are always taking taking taking either in chunks or in little pieces here and there. In order to take, there must be a give, no? Well, where's the give? If you are at work and the boss is always taking stuff away from you such as your time with your family, a once-promised bonus, or some sort of reward and instead giving you more and more work to do instead, aren't you eventually going to say "Wait a minute, pal?" sooner or later? Sure, you have freedom to quit in this example and find another job, but the students don't have such a luxury. We love our team and there's nowhere else to go. So it is either cower and beg or stand up and fight. What course should they take? The most likely scenario is that the students are about to lose again. Who knows what they'll lose this time. It could be a whole section, it could be part of one in the lower bowl. Roger Thomas said giving the students some leniancy would be akin to rewarding them. Well, I certainly hope that's not the attitude by Buning. Oh, and one last thing: Before the old "you can work with them" bit comes into play, think of this: Students have been trying to work with the AD for years now to no avail. None, or very little of our suggestions have actually been implemented and there is a strong feeling that even if feasible, we're being ignored. If you are going to be ignored, why work in a unilateral partnership?
-
After you, buddy. All you've done is trolled around thus far. Resorting to name calling and generally being a nuisance.
-
I agree. Again, the phantom poster is blaming it on the refs so that trolls can come in and say we said so. Comon! Even if Campion didn't call all of those penalties on us, we still would have lost! Campion wasn't given a whole lot of choice in 90 percent of the calls he made. And, yes, we did get away with stuff tonight too. Did the Gophers get away with stuff? Yeah, they did, but Campion's calling most of it would have been ticky tacky as well. The Gophers: 1. Out fundamentaled us. 2. Out disciplined us. 3. Out shot us. 4. Out skated us. 5. Out finished us. Really, when you look at that list, is there any question why we lost?
-
What crawled up your shorts, pal? I don't see anything at all incorrect about taz's post. We flat out sucked out there tonight. It was embarrassing! Take the night off and come back tommorrow with a fresh, sober outlook....
-
Now now, be nice. After all, cesar11 did have 1, maybe 2 too many bottles of tequila.
-
Powerplays are going to be a gift too. So, why when we actually did get it into the zone, was everyone afraid to shoot the puck? I'm not saying they should shoot as soon as they get into the zone, but comon! The Gophers have nothing to be afraid of when the Sioux are passing it around the perimeter. Just pass it 3 times then shoot! Scrap for the rebound and then reset up, pass 3 times then shoot! If it gets cleared it gets cleared but at least that way you are guaranteed at least 1 attempt!!!! We're a gritty team trying to play a finesse game and it just isn't working! Change it up!
-
I agree. Minnesota should do that too and stop recruiting players like WHeeler, Erik Johnson, Ryan Potulny, Frazee, Chucko, Okposo, O'Brian... Maybe losing Mueller was a good thing, no? Seriously, what the Sioux need is fundamentals. The talent is there. The basics are not. Experience isn't there either. We can't teach experience, but we can teach fundamentals. Why can't we pass?
-
The only good spot I can see is that Phil is doing damn good for having nothing in front of him, no support on the other end of the ice, and having what... 21 minutes of shorthanded less than nobody in front of him? I mean seriously. I have a growing respect for Phil even if the team seems to only show up when Jordan is in goal. Tommorrow's another day. Heh. TH said pregame that Lucia thinks we'll make the NCAAs. I wonder what Lucia would say post game? Tell you something, I dislike Lucia, but if he were to rescind that comment, I wouldn't blame him. The down years are always harder to watch. I just thought that, with the talent we were bringing in, it wouldn't be a down year. I guess I was wrong.

Which period was worse this one or the first period? Any way you cut it, this is just ridiculous. WOW. I can't imagine what there is to say in the lockerroom this intermission. I say put Walski in. The game is lost anyways.
