  1. Probably a goaltender. Pretty good chance that the number on his back will be either #1 or #34
  2. In good news, Zach Parise had an assist and the game winning goal in a shootout today in a 3-2 NJ win. Recap Unrelated Note: In a trade with the Flyers, the Coyotes acquired another defenseman. I'm not sure if this defenseman (Seidenberg) will affect Jones, but I thought it was worth a note.
  3. The question then lies with UND's O Coordinator. If Landry is good at throwing the deep ball, will UND install some plays that have the QB looking more than 10 yards down the field? But I digress.... (NOTE: It was better this year in that regard than in previous years, I admit)
  4. Fair enough! Dress a pure defensive talent. A guy who is solid defensively, blocks shots, makes decent outlet passes, sound positionally, and so on instead! The point is still clear: If you aren't valuable to your team offensively or defensively you shouldn't be playing. Fights don't score goals and they don't prevent goals. Therefore, unless the player who is fighting is genuinely valuable to the team in one of those two other areas, he shouldn't dress. There's no problem with having a player stand up for cheap shots. I'm saying that if that player's main responsibility is fighting, then that's a wasted roster slot. Now, they (the hockey people) won't say that. They'll say that "John Doe's an enforcer." Yeah, that's nice. What does he do for the team other than drop the gloves? Scott Parker doesn't contribute, Tie Domi rarely contributes (He did score a goal once when I was watching a game. He looked just as stunned as I did. And the commentators were flabbergasted "And Tie Domi gets a goal! Unbelievable!") Scott Stevens, as I mentioned before, had a tendency to drop the gloves, but is that all he did for the Devils? Nope. If goal scorers don't contribute they get demoted. If defensemen aren't solid defensively, they get sent down. It seems that enforcers don't get held to such accountability. I just don't see fighting as a major part of the game. Therefore, why devote a roster slot to an enforcer?
  5. So when all a player does is rough another player up and, at best, sits for 5 minutes, this is a good thing? I have a fabulous idea: Instead of dressing a player like that, dress a player who scores goals. Imagine... no one has ever won a game or even scored a goal because of a fight. Sure, it may rev up your team, and it may rev up the other team just the same. What happens then? You're right, we're right back where we started. There's no point to dropping the gloves. I agree with Sicatoka. Take out the cheap stuff by making it really tough for the players AND THE TEAM to afford cheap players on the roster.
  6. I like what Kaip brings defensively to the rink. Only he wasn't recruited just for his defense. He was recruited because he displayed an offensive upside in juniors (much like Prpich did) and we haven't seen him be effective at ALL in the offensive zone. And, even if he didn't score a lot of goals, the penalties are KILLING his chances at being an every day player. If he were smarten up, I think Kaip would be an automatic 1 for 1 replacement of Prpich. But he's out of control right now and it's hurting the team. Remember, MSUM's first goal of the game came from a Kaip penalty. Maybe I'm too harsh on him. Maybe we all are, being that he's even more of a second year freshman than Radke is, but I don't think it's unreasonable to think that he could be at least more disciplined. As for Brad Miller, he IS faster than Kaip. I doubt anyone thinks otherwise. The thing that I believe that is keeping Miller out of the lineup isn't his playing ability. I noticed Miller is very easy to get off the puck. And that doesn't lend itself well to a checking line role. Right now, I get the feeling Hak wants to keep the 1st, 2nd, and 4th lines together as scoring lines but Hak can't find the third player in that checking line to make it all work. Kaip fits the mold on paper, but his play is just nerve wracking.
  7. To be honest, I never participated in the wave at a hockey game. To me, that's a football or baseball cheer. I mean, the wave at the football or baseball game was genuinely something to do between the 25 seconds it takes to get a football play off or the 10 minutes (it seems) for the pitcher to throw the d### ball! It just seemed lame to do it at a hockey game.
  8. Though it is interesting to look at USCHO at all the DU fans gloating about it. 1-0 sounds like a really good game. IMO if you lose 1-0, it isn't defense that lost you the game. It isn't goaltending either.

    Toews

I understand now. As for the last part, I know he's getting ripped by scouts (ISS dropped his stock), but the only fans I really see ripping him are Sioux fans and UW fans. I haven't noticed many Gopher fans turning on him. And it is true, unless he starts scoring 4 points a game (2g 2a) for the remainder of the season, I don't think people will ever say he's done enough.
  10. Ignore him Sioux-cia. All cujo really wants to do is to pick fights with us. He is the kind of a person who endorses the type of behavior that has everyone so riled up. (If he was at the Mariucci last weekend) He probably was the first to throw stuff onto the ice (after sneaking away from Mom and Dad to raid a garbage can and sneak into the student section), the first to say that the Sioux are hostile and abusive not because of any rational reason, but because it would "stick it to UND." Heh. Let him have his fun. Just put him on ignore and maybe he'll screw up enough to have the moderator revoke his posting privileges.

    Toews

I don't question what you are trying to say, I only am confused as to the first part of your post. Toews chose to go to UND to avoid Kessel-type hype? Kessel was hyped and I don't remember him ever considering Major Juniors. The only hype MJ wise regarding Toews was that he was the 1st overall pick in the WHL draft his draft year.
  12. Sprig- I noticed Chorney quite a bit out there tonight, even in the third. Anyways, here's my thoughts on a chippy game with an ugly ending. First Line: Oshie-Zajac-Spirko (I think) Oshie was flying out there tonight. He really worked hard and made some unbelievable shots that would have made Sportscenter if they had gone in. Doesn't matter though as he gets at least 2 points on the night (don't recall if he got any assists). Zajac played hard and was effective on the PK. Spirko.. Whoa can this guy stick handle. Too bad he was on the perimeter where it could do only minimal damage. He did get an assist or two in there. Second Line: Porter-Toews-Stafford (I think). Toews had a HUGE pass to Stafford that was simply awesome. Stafford: WOW. Congrats on your 100 points as a Sioux, scored on a goal no less. Porter: I can't think of a better game he's played this year. He was buzzing like I saw him buzz his freshman year. He scored and he nearly scored. Good job Porter! Third Line: Fabian-Kaip-Prpich: Fabian had a really good game. Scoring, throwing his weight around, doing some good defensive work. Kaip... Ugh. Apart from standing up for Jones, I think his game play was forgetable AGAIN. Don't think he'll play tommorrow. (God that makes me sad. I thought so highly of him last year). Prpich: Yapping all game long. He earned every second of that 4 min + 10 at the end of the game. I thought it was a little gratuitous. Fourth Line: Watkins-Duncan-Kozek. Pretty invisible. Duncan and Watkins made noise on special teams. Powerplay: I thought the first period was a strong C in grade. Second Period we moved up to about a B and the third period a resounding F. You NEVER call yourself a quality powerplay unit if you give up a shortie.. And they did it in style by giving it up via breakaway. Good work. PK: Other than the first period PP goal, it was pretty solid. Third Period: We played good ALL GAME LONG and then we took a break after Fabian scored. Phil looked pretty unimpressive (especially MSUM's 2nd Goal. How does he beat you 5 hole?). Phil still played good, don't get me wrong, but it really was ugly in the third period. Kaminski (MSUM)'s flying cross body tackle was picture perfect... if you are in the WWE and McElvie's spear at the end of the game was really poor sports. I do admit, both sides were being pretty cheap. I only thought Kaminski's attempt to injure was worthy of perhaps him sitting tommorrow. You don't leave the ice to check someone. EVER. That's illegal in EVERY level of hockey. Officiating: Is this the same Zelkin we saw vs. UW? I don't think so. He got several calls correct that were VERY difficult to make. Both sides got away with stuff and, generally, I think it was pretty well officiated. Tormey got left hung out to dry, but even so, he's not as great as Mav fans make him out to be. Chris Clark with the start tommorrow? Or will they go with Tormey? EDIT: Forgot the defensive side of things: Smaby and Jones looked VERY VERY VERY solid. ESPECIALLY Jones. My goodness he looks different than when I first saw him play. Much more solid. More responsible. I hope that hit by Kaminski didn't do any damage. I liked the emotion from Radke and Finley tonight. Nice to see them step up. Lee's shot on the PP is good, but still VERY slow. He needs to develop the shot more to make it quicker. Chorney needs to stop broadcasting his shots like Radke. However, unlike Radke's broadcast shots, Chorney's end up flying over the heads of everyone. They interviewed Robbie Bina during first intermission. That kid is really neat to listen to.
  13. Heh. Have you seen the roster for the Sioux lately? We have 3 goaltenders. 2 of them, Phil and Jordan, I feel are GOOD goaltenders. 1 of them, Aaron Walski, is unproven. Get it now?
  14. Hmmmm........ Person you've never met and know nothing about...... hmmm... How long have you known Robbie Bina? EDIT: Erased my last part because that was just too much to put down. Moderator: PLEASE how about a 2fer? Perhaps say... close this thread and perhaps say... ban this joker?

    Prpich

    Ditto.

    Toews

You forgot Mueller had academic issues as well. But that's not important to a college recruit. Anyways, maybe EJ will go pro, maybe he won't. Either way, the best the 'U' can hope for is that EJ is a 1 season wonder for them.
  17. So you are saying that, if UW were to play a game vs. a team like AIC or Bentley tommorrow and they played the entire game without a goalie, they would lose? AIC would probably hit the crossbar 15 times You know... if AIC committed a penalty, would UW be allowed to put 7 men on the ice until AIC gets possession of the puck? Ok seriously, no, they haven't proven much with Eaves at the helm. However, you never know what is going to happen. They COULD go undefeated the rest of the season, tourney included. They could be one and done in the playoffs. They could be any combination of what was listed above. All we have is what we see now. And right now, UW isn't losing 1st place any time soon.
  18. True enough. 2 good goaltenders is better than 1 good goaltender and 1 unproven one.
  19. Youngest bro I believe.
  20. Yeah. If Foyt broke the other guy's neck.... Well, I'd snap at him like I snapped at Paukovich. Suspended for the season? HA! More like dismissed from the team. I will stick up for Hakstol. I like him. Never met him though (even if I've been accused of actually being him ) And I WISH I could go. The Wild will get SMOKED! I did go see the Capitols vs. the Wings though (HEY JIM DAHL!). Ovechkin got the first goal but Zetterberg got 2 and Lidstrom got one IIRC. It was a TON of fun (and, since I wore my Sioux uni, I got comps on the jersey too!). Anyhooooooooooo... Go Wings! Go Sioux!
  21. Agreed. Heh, there are teams in DI hockey that Wisconsin could beat even if they played the entire game with an extra attacker
  22. I don't recall ever attacking an official for the checking from behind rules. In fact, of the recent start of "crackdowns," this one is actually a crackdown and is actually called. The obstruction crackdown is yet to be implemented in the WCHA. No, seriously, there have been good officiating in the WCHA this year. However, my point of view isn't the perspective of "Bad" vs. "Good" officiating. It is "consistent" vs. "inconsistent" with me. Bad calls are going to happen. The officials are human. HOWEVER, the official should be able to stick to his (in this case) convictions. Meaning if he calls interference on one team (good or bad call), then he calls the same thing on the other team (good or bad call) if the other team commits it. I don't expect mistake-free officiating. I expect consistent officiating. Mistake-free is rare, if not impossible. Consistent officiating is difficult, but can be accomplished IMO.
  23. I don't think Elliot's injury is that concerning on the short run. If this injury puts him out for a lengthy period of time, then yeah, I'd be worried. However, UW is solid in every facet of the game with Elliot and if Connelly is on the ice, that makes only one facet that is questionable. I highly doubt the rest of the team would go to pot with Connelly as the goalie. They're simply too deep and experienced.
  24. Damn straight Im gonna give them a talk! I'll take the NCAA rule book and beat them over the head with it until they step up their play (or fall unconscious) if I have to. And trust me, if to comes to that, what am I going to use to beat some sense into the officiating crew? jk, Don't make me send Eades after you DMT and PCM are just trying to hurt my feelings. Even coaches cry you know... Just look at Dick Vermeil.
  25. I may be video impaired because the video on the caps site doesn't work.
