  1. I'd love for UND to be in the Great West Conference in football! However, just because I, and a few other UND posters here, don't like basketball, why shouldn't UND basketball try to get into MidCon or an equivalent conference? Please, obviously your disdain for those UND fans who don't care for basketball is clouding your logic on the big picture. I'm sure UND's AD is trying to get all of UND's sports into a conference (or will when we are eligible) whether I, or another UND poster, like that particular sport or not.

    Goalie

I agree with this entirely. If Phil wasn't solid in net, his GAA and Save% would definitely reflect that. Yeah, his W/L record isn't very good, but neither was the offense when he played. I wish I saved that post but someone on SS.com calculated the Average Goals Scored per game that the Sioux scored with Phil in net and it was around 2.0. Does anyone have that number handy? In any case, if any team with ANY goaltender in DI scores 2 goals or less a game, it's going to be VERY difficult for that team to win a majority of their games. Goon gave a good example with Wisconsin. Last year, they didn't give up many goals. This year, what it is going to come down to is the first goal. We HAVE to get on the board early and we have to score AT LEAST 3 goals a game to support Phil and the D. In games against top defensive teams (like UW last season) the first goal could mean the difference between a win or a loss.
  3. I'm assuming the "wine" was a typo for "win." Otherwise, here we go with the "Here's another proof positive that Grand Forks HS fans are nothing more than pig-headed arrogant ignoramouses" argument again. But otherwise, yeah, DaveK, I agree.
  4. Sorry JFR, but McMahon is no longer a Viking. Neither is JT O'Sullivan. Surprising cuts include Liewinski (I knew he wasn't going to make the team, but I thought the Vikings would be able to trade him), Will Offord (Same as Liewinski), and Ryan Hoag. I thought Hoag could have found a slot on the practice squad or perhaps special teams.
  5. WHy'd they sign George? Was it a ploy to get the Raiders back into the news? Whatever it is, I hope Jeff took some money with him.
  6. I'd be VERY happy with 14 points. I think if we can keep the score away from being a rout and into the realm of a respectable game, I think I will be happy. I hope we can keep the game closer than 14 points in between us and UNI. That being said, if we keep them within 10 points, I would consider that a HUGE victory for the Sioux. This game could get ugly. I just hope we don't get blown out ala NDSU and Concordia-St. Paul. Idle question: What will the discussion be like if we do get routed? How many NDSU fans will come on here and post smack? Something we'll have to just wait and see, no doubt.

    CWU vs UND

Precisely. First quarter and a half was called "Not playing football." Seriously, if we expect to compete with UNI, we're going to have to come out onto the field and play like there's 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter of the NC game and we're down by 4 the entire first half. Play hard, play well fundamentally, and make UNI guess. As UNI did well in DII and is doing alright (by all acounts) in DIAA, I HIGHLY doubt they'll be intimidated by us. UNI isn't Crookston or Concordia-St. Paul.
  8. IF we are, maybe we should go out looking for our next goaltenders to look like this.
  9. Why is this such a problem to you? I'm sure there are Bison fans who don't like basketball, what then? Excommunication? Seriously, I don't like basketball, but I'm still happy that NDSU got into the conference. Why? Because it sure as heck is going to help the other sports get into a conference as well. As I see it, if the MidCon had rejected their bid, why would a football conference accept them? "Not good enough for MidCon, not good enough for us" mentality. This way, they get in and it helps the rest of the athletics department. It could even help UND. When UND becomes eligible, it could be advantageous for NDSU to help in any way they can because travelling costs could be shared, a rivalry like ours is historic and makes a heap of money for both schools, and it could be seen as profitable for the conference because of that. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it is a good deal for NDSU to get in. Congrats.
  10. Another dumb question: Why have a seperate stage for this determination thing? If they determine that the death penalty is an option, then why can't they just deliberate it as such and, if they don't feel it is an option, give him life in prison?
  11. Thanks jloos. WOuld he be put to death in Indiana or would he be brought back to ND for the deed?
  12. FOr the Manitoba game for now. I can't afford season tickets being a substitute teacher, so I'll just request tickets here and there throughout the season hoping some kind person can get me into the lower bowl. Yes, I'd prefer to be near the students (WHAT? Yeah, I know!) but I'll take anywhere. Anyways, either PM me or respond here or email me: dlevitt7@yahoo.com THanks!
  13. Yes, Childress was at Wisconsin. I don't know if he was there at the same time as Bollinger. Well, McMahon was told earlier that he wouldn't be playing tonight and then they acquire Bollinger... Sorry, JFR, but McMahon has already packed his bags. I mean, even JT O'Sullivan got playing time tonight. Judging by that fact alone, the depth chart at QB would have to be Johnson, Bollinger, Jackson, O'Sullivan, McMahon. I doubt they'll keep 5 QBs on staff. They'll surely not send McMahon to NFL Europe. So, O'Sullivan got a really long look at the Vikings and McMahon's career ended this week. Vikings' backfield is suspect enough, but even Faison, whatshisname, and that really long named guy got more time than Mewelde Moore. Could he also be on the way out?
  14. That's true. If it weren't for the fact that we were born white, we wouldn't have this problem. Caucasians are the source of all evil to American Society.
  15. I was noticing how Finley and Lee gained weight, Toews and Jones gained height, and that Duncan and Miller have the same weight yet Miller is 5 inches taller! Seriously, is there anything to size being a factor into how easy/hard it is to move someone off the puck? I mean, it didn't seem that easy to move Bina or Duncan off the puck.. I guess I'm just not sure how weight plays into this whole thing. Should it be a concern that Miller's weight is as low as it is relating to his size?
  16. Question I have is, if the jury decides to give him the death penalty, does he get sent to a federal pen that has a death row? Is he sent to a federal pen and then brought back to ND for the sentence carried out?

    Goalie

I think Phil will do fine. However, I'm not quite as confident as #1 Hakfan. I also don't think goaltending is our weakness. I'd like to see Grieco play. I don't know much about him (I know nothing about him that cannot be found on pointstreak or the Wellington Dukes roster page) so I'd like to see what he has to offer. Is he a steal like Schweitzer was? Or is he another Siembida? Who knows? I just want to see the puck drop.
  18. I'm not sure where Rodriguez would be sent, it really depends upon what they classify his case. I doubt he'd be sent to a low or minimum security facility. Therefore, that eliminates all of the Federal Pens in Minnesota and South Dakota (there are no Federal Pens in North Dakota). There are two Medium/High Security prisons in the North Central Region (the Federal Bureau of Prisons seperates the U.S. into regions and the NCR region is where ND falls). One is located at Florence, CO and the other is located in Terre Haute, IN. Here is the map I got this information off of. You can click on the names you see and it takes you to a page that describes what kind of facility it is. This website in general has a lot of good info on how it all works too.
  19. If it is offensive to one person? Oh dear God... The NCAA is offensive to me, therefore, they must be obligated to grant me remedy!!!!! I think the school colors of the University of Minnesota remind me of the color of bodily wastes and I find that disgusting and offensive! I think therefore, that UMN should change their colors to pink and sky blue!
  20. :grumbles: An unfortunate typo.
  21. SOmewhat on topic, somewhat off: Since I am unfamiliar with court proceedings I thought I'd ask this question: Say the verdict is guilty and it moves on to sentencing. Who deliberates the sentence? Is it the jury or the judge? If the jury deliberates the sentence (put to death or life in prison or whatever) is it the same jury? I know that seems like a rather dumb question, but I guess I just don't know the answer to these things.
  22. How much of this "new found" Bison resentment stems from the end of the rivalry? I mean, we spurned NDSU by turning our backs when they asked to play us while being DIAA and us DII. That breeds resentment. Then, when UND declares it is going to move, it only seems logical to take out that resentment by hoping we fail? Really, when NDSU made the move to DI I thought of it as a dumb move and I was vocal about it, HOWEVER, I not once stated that I hoped they would fail in their endeavor. There is a difference. I doubt many NDSU fans would think (if they think much at all about UND) that the move to DI is a good deal. I would expect them not to be, in fact, because it once again puts UND in the same playing field as NDSU in many facets even off the athletic turf. However, hoping we fail is a rather petty thing to do. As for shooting the messenger, if the messenger is delivering the message that there is a fire in the barn and cannot furnish any bonafide proof that there is said fire, why shouldn't we contemplate "shooting" that messenger? Seriously Sioux goo and DI, please furnish proof. If not, kindly shut the hell up.
  23. First of all, all that Tree needs is a hug. It simply baffles me that the Tree nor Stanford cannot go out and find a single Tree Hugger in the bay area. As for the Native American conference, please. All it is going to be is an NCAA "pat yourselves on the back" forum where the only side that shows up is the pro-NCAA side of this issue because the anti-NCAA side doesn't really think this issue is all that important. Heaven help those who oppose this thing showing up and voicing their opinion. They'll be verbally abused all the way out the door and for 30 minutes after that unfortunate soul leaves. And trust me, they won't attack the issue at all, they'll just call that person a sad excuse for a racist and abuse away. You couldn't pay me to attend that conference.
  24. The older sister of my best friend is on that jury. I have faith that they'll (and she will) make the right decision in this case. I just hope that it doesn't take too long. This case has taken her away from her job and her family for a while, even though she does get to go home every night and see them. I am sure it is a taxing experience and one I do not envy her for having.
  25. I know Toews and Oshie are flashier players, but my favorite play was made by Kozek in the MTU series at the Ralph. Play was against the boards and John Scott sent the puck back around his own goal to the side of the rink where the penalty boxes are. Well, I don't recall who was there, but I do recall watching Kozek go from between the faceoff circles and absolutely smearing John Scott against the boards in a BEAUTIFUL hit. He then casually got up, skated back in between the faceoff circles in time to recieve a pass (again, I don't recall who it was who made the pass) and buried the puck in the back of the MTU net. I realize that the goal wasn't the flashiest nor particularly challenging (Kozek was open thanks to laying out Scott), but it surely was the best one-two punch in my opinion. Big hit, and a goal. WOW. I look forward to seeing what's in store for Kozek this year.
