2-0 Canada. Pyatt. Team USA not looking good.
-
It was a two on one with Downie and Cogliano. Johnson got beat? It wasn't Lee? Anyways, A TON of kneeing going on.
-
2 man advantage for USA. Good news for USA because it took this second penalty for them to even get a SOG on the powerplay.
-
Normally I would agree with you, but we're talking about players who are owned by two teams that each have disasterous front offices. I really don't know what Chicago will do with Toews or NY will do with Okposo. If I were them, I'd stay in college as long as I could.
-
Which is why I don't have psudo-reporting cred

Got a Sioux sweatshirt from my friend.

My assessment is: They won. Price played well. Toews plays tough. O'Marra got smoked infront of his bench late in the third period in an AWESOME hit. Bourdon got named player of the game. Did I miss anything?

TVU feed is rather spotty for me. Lots of problems with the feed. Also, whomever is producing this webfeed isn't doing a very good job. Sounds of the ice is drowning out people commentating. I mean, they have mics right at their lips. Shouldn't we be able to hear them over the hockey game?

Ok. I didn't see the game I will reneg my claim that there are less primadonnas on this team. I guess that was my optimism showing through. Will the US get it together and play like a team? Or will they fall flat on their face again? As for Finland, I thought they'd be tough to beat because of their goaltending and defense. Apparently, so far, the scores have shown otherwise.

Downloaded ok. Does the channel show up as "World Junior" or what am I looking for?

That's what I hope (they make the Gold Medal game). Maybe they can win it? If not, I'll take silver. No, I'm not giving up. I just think the US is (on paper) the 3rd best team in the WJT behind Canada and Finland. I'm not sure about Sweden. They always seem to put a good team on the ice as well. We'll have to see what happens. The US not losing to Germany in quite some time is disappointing but, again, I wonder how long Team Germany has played together as a roster. Last WJT, US was at a disadvantage because many of the other teams had played longer together. I wonder if this might be something similar this year. HOWEVER, already I can say that we have a better chance because there are less primadonnas on this team than last year. At least on paper. I haven't seen a game yet. ------------------------------------------- Soutpaw- Thanks a TON for the link.

Re: the game Oh well. Maybe USA can go for silver

Is it actually called TVU Player? I got no results for that if so. After the download where do I go?

Is this game only on Center Ice?

Gotta love the "cyclical" trends of GPL and SS.com, no? Some Gopher fans come here and be a "dick" on our forum and some Sioux fans go over to GPL and acts like a "dick" on that forum... then, sometimes, I'm assuming, some Sioux fans wonder why they aren't treated fairly on GPL and some Gopher fans feel the same way here. The ironic part is sometimes the same "dicks" are the ones that wonder why they aren't respected? But one thing is for certain (speaking ONLY from this my experience here on SS.com. I don't have a logon at GPL, don't visit there, probably never will even lurk there): It truly amazes me how "some" in the quoted post so often gets left out and all Sioux fans get painted with the same brush. It's stated that way by SOME Gopher fans here and many more on USCHO. The moral of the story is: Act here like you want to be treated. If you act like a "dick" expect to get treated like one. Sioux fans on GPL should act with class. Gopher fans on SS.com should act with class. That's all there is to it.

Actually, Sioux-cia, I'm not altogether certain that it is just the inadequacy of the reservation schools that is the problem in why there aren't more Native American students in higher education. I'm not going to argue that the schools on reservations are top notch. They may not be adequate at all, but that alone doesn't dictate why North Dakota has among the highest graduation rates of Native Americans yet it only tallies in at around 56% (2000 information). The same study showed that North Dakota has the leading graduation rate among White students at 89%. There's more to education than the color of your skin or where you live. There has to be certain elements of effort made by the community, the parents, and most importantly, the students themselves to get the education and continue on once graduation is completed. More recent information (2004 study found here as Table B on page 89) shows that the 89.5% White community graduation rates have dropped to 84.1% and the Native American community (National average of 57% in 2000) drops to 51.1% nationally in terms of graduation rate. In North Dakota, the graduation rate dropped to 52.6% (a drop of 3.4%, a less steep drop over 4 years than Caucasian students) among Native American students. I have been told by people who work on reservations (though, to be completely honest, I'm not sure if they work in North Dakota or Minnesota reservations) that absenteeism is extremely high in the reservation schools they've worked with. Health care (daily stuff like general hygiene) isn't very good. Along with this are reasons that are altogether something that is hard to bring a counter-argument towards. Many kids miss schools for family reasons. How do you argue with kids missing school to help take care of their elders? And, a hypothetical statement, perhaps motivation isn't all that present. When (if) a person graduates from high school on a reservation he/she gets a monetary amount of some sort. I'm not sure the qualifications for said amount, nor do I know how much they recieve. However, if they recieve the money regardless of whether or not they graduate high school, additionally, the expectation is made that they must be able to get some form of employment as to help assist the extended family "survive," how can education truly be effective? They get to age 18, given a check, and kicked out the door with a classified ad and a pencil and told "Go get yourself a job, boy!" And that is that. Fortunately, things are changing (slowly but surely) and UND leads the way with scholarships and all these programs that assist Native American students become part of the well educated community, regardless of the motivation as to why they are at a University. I think it is great to see INMED and medical staff heading back to the reservations to help other Native Americans. I think that should be better promoted, to be truthful. Yet, again, I've yet to determine a single connection between the high school graduation rates, the "plight" of the Native American, and the connection therein to collegiate nicknames for the negative OR positive. The argument of "Native American imagery establish a hostile and racist atmosphere that prohibits or endangers Native Americans and prevents them from achieving success" is rather weak. Bad behavior happens, unfortunately, and it needs to stop. Bad people deserve to be punished. However, taking the blame off of those bad people and placing it on words on a wall or imagery on a stone facade is merely delusional and isn't going to resolve anything except for making those people who complain feel victorious for a little while until the same behavior they cite as being caused by the nickname resurfaces. Then they'll wonder why it's happening all over again and start flailing their pointed finger around placing blame on every deep-pocketted or highly visual entity they can find until they are left with a truly hostile environment: ostracization. How many of you have ever witnessed (or went through yourself) someone who has "cried wolf" so many times that people are either extremely uncomfortable/scared to be around that person or simply stop listening to that person, even if that person has a valid issue to bring up? Native Americans will never be "washed away into the annuls of history." They shouldn't be. However, their continued apathy towards the minority of their people who make such cries of wolf could surely put them down that path.

Is that similar to ChrismaHaanzakwanikah?

Merry XMas everyone!
-
Was that because they needed a goon?
-
That assumes that the UMN WR could actually hold onto the ball.

Redline's report was interesting until you got to the #1 ranked class. Being that it isn't Michigan throws credibility for said report out of the window.

I don't think Seattle would work. Seattle cares as much about hockey as Bismarck does. They have a MJ team there and really, F-M Jets games are better attended, IMO. Portland is no different. I think Seattle might work for an AHL or ECHL franchise, but not an NHL one. I would love to see Winnipeg and Hartford get hockey teams back. I guess the MTS Centre is too small for NHL? I don't understand that, but it's a possibility. I also don't see pro hockey coming to Grand Forks except for exhibition games.
-
No, because it is hockey. If Chorney and Carmen played any other sport, then there could be problems.
-
Seriously though: Team USA got called for nearly twice as many penalties that Czech did. Some were dumb (delay of game penalties, IMO, are dumb penalties regardless). It's odd to read the box score/recap and see a UMN player (Carmen) tipping a shot by a UND player (Chorney) into the net. On the other hand, it looks like Chorney simply donned a new uniform and kept up the same game. He really is a bright spot this year for the Sioux.

Not to be nitpicky, but how can a contest in which 9 goals total are scored be deemed a "defensive battle" unless you mean they fought to actually play defense?
