  1. Curtis Murphy is also an All Star... again.
  2. First off, I agree with Jackson, PCM, and some others. Coaches have to be careful. They have to protect and stand up for their team, sure, but if they do so and a penalty is called or they are ejected, what are they doing for the team (regardless of whether or not it endears that actions to the fans or how justifiable the actions were)? Fire Helmet Guy is right. Campion, though not a great official, is one of the better officials in the WCHA. Who's the best? I don't know. Coach Cronin of Northeastern was right. The state of officiating in the WCHA is rather poor right now. I was told by Phil Harmeson that the goal of the WCHA is to be as close to NHL standards as possible (don't laugh too hard at this). If it truly is the goal of the WCHA, they will NEVER be close to NHL quality with the officiating the way it is from top to bottom. What will happen to Jutting and crew? I don't know. They crossed the line. However, do you really put all the blame on Jutting and crew? I think Jutting and crew are responsible for the altercation that allegedly occurred. It didn't need to happen. However, the events leading up to the altercation, in my opinion, stem from a seemingly nonexistant accountability standard that Greg Shepherd "imposes" on his officials. There doesn't seem to be a sheriff keeping the deputies in line. When that happens, vigilantism tends to become an unfortunate possibility. This time it is the coaches who became vigilantes. Said it before and I'll say it again: The first step to recovering from this black eye is to remove Greg Shepherd from his current post. We can't get away with wholesale dismantling of the officiating corps of the WCHA, but we can install a new operating program. (Wow, there's a lot of cliches in this post. Oh well. )
  3. Really. It's not fun to pick on a guy when he has (or has a close scare with) a potentially life threatening condition. It kinda takes the wind out of the sails, ya know? Glad to see he's back.
  4. Glass Joe? Since when did Peter Forsberg play for the Sioux? Was he on a line with Mapletoft? Or maybe you are thinking of Marion Gaborik? Forney was injured last year but he hasn't been injured since...
  5. Western College Hockey's 2007 Top Recruit blog Has Blake as indeed Phil's brother. He's a defenseman. Here's what Chris had to say:
  6. You really are desperate, aren't you?
  7. We're pro-nicknamers here. So, we're racists anyways. Why not be on thin ice too? You have to remember the types of people that are the most vocal against the nickname (these aren't all of them, but the most vocally anti-nickname for sure) see those who voice opinions on the other side of the aisle as doing so out of racism and intolerance towards the Native Americans. I think many of us have tried again and again to explain our side of the story but really, it's as Gothmog says: A waste of time. These people cannot handle an opinion different than their own. They see it, not as a dissenting opinion, but rather a personal attack on them or their identity. And they end up throwing out the race card. So all we can do is keep on explaining our side, even if it falls on deaf ears, or worse, manipulative personalities. I hope we don't grow apathetic to it or give up.
  8. I think Miller and Genoway should switch lines. VV can play center on the third line.
  9. Here's my obligatory comment: If DHG's claim is true (He did it to "get a girl" aka MeanEgirl) it is truly laughable. I mean, he hasn't been successful yet and, as he's an 8 year in coming history degree recipient, he should realize that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
  10. I agree with what dagies said. As for Finley- YAHOOOOO!!!! If he keeps this up, I MIGHT be entitled to an "I told you so" type comment. As for Lee- I was intrigued to see Lee on the PK unit with the World Junior team, seeing as he is a defensive liability. In any case, I think Lee just needs confidence. He'll be fine.
  11. I will say it again, though he's not bolded on siouxnami's list, but I'd love to see Stepan Novotny in a Sioux uniform. For some reason (don't ask me why), players from the part of the woods Novotny is from (He's either from the Czech Republic) seem to have worked out recently. He's been scoring tons as of late and he's got decent size (6'1 190). I'm not sure where CSS would put him if he was on their list though. Would he be listed under European or North American skaters?
  12. I agree. He's really not bad in other facets of the game. He's physical, he works hard, he just seems to have lost his scoring touch!
  13. Since when does 14+9=34? (Duncan's scoring totals)
  14. I disagree on VV but I see what you are saying about Forney. With all the predraft hype saying he could become another TJ Oshie in terms of ability to jump right from High School to College, plus with the early departures, Hakstol thought he could bring Forney in. I'm not saying he's not going to pan out. I think he will. I'm just thinking that this start isn't as good as it could have been for Forney. As for VV, he has steadily improved every single game and simply has not found the back of the net. He's made incredible passes, played tough in the corners, crashed the net, and skated hard shift after shift after the first few games. I think VV fits with the Sioux. VV needs a finisher on his line... or he needs to get off the schneid and find the back of the twine himself.
  15. Just a quick question, If UND regardless of the nickname has no hope to work with the tribes over the next 30 years, does that mean the University is wasting money on those 30 Native American only programs they fund? If so, I could really think that the University would be best suited by removing that funding and putting it into a general scholarship fund for anyone and everyone qualified to earn financial aid. You know, it would help people of all ethnicities, backgrounds, and all handle the growing and overwhelming costs of collegiate education. Please, if you are blind to what the University is doing to help the Native Americans of North Dakota and even Minnesota, then you truly are wrong. Those programs alone (and I'm sure there are more than just those programs) are a standing testiment to UND's stance in the education of Native Americans. I think their INMED program is absolutely top notch! Let's get to being more realistic: We know you are anti-nickname. We know that there is nothing we can say or do short of changing the name to change your mind (something that has already been admitted). We know that this issue will never go away (let's face it, it is impossible to make everyone happy. That's why majority rules came about. Sure, it has its problems, but whatever makes the MOST people happy is the policy everyone seems to strive for. And that means there will be a minority that may not necessarily be happy about the outcome. However, pleasing the minority to the disregard of the majority's opinion is rather backwards and even more damaging) even if we do change the name. My return question to you is: How much longer do you want to disregard the majority's opinion to forward the minority (even if it is the minority of a minority) agenda? Is there a voice of the majority in this? I mean, obviously, if the board's members voted on whether or not they liked "gothmog" as your nickname and all but 2 liked it, does that mean that, because those two don't like your nickname that you must change your nickname? Are you serious about that type of resolve? Talk about a slippery slope!
  16. Nope. Like Walski-lovers, Finley haters are more concerned with the past including (and especially) anything negative. They gloss over positive things Finley did (like the last half of last season) and focus more on the negative acts he commits. So, when Finley does good you will typically see either one line begrudging comments ("Well, Finley did ok today") or simply nothing at all. Back to Finley's performance: Hey, guess what! Finley ROCKED this past weekend. I wish I could sum up what he did at the Dartmouth Tourney but I didn't get to listen to those games. Anyways, Finley did some remarkable things. Played responsible hockey. Played more physical. He's starting to attempt to contribute offensively (even if he didn't score last night he was among the team leaders last night in SOG)... He's really doing well right now. And yes, CC is a high flying team. Not as fast as Minnesota, but certainly not pigs on ice either. Nice to see him doing well.
  17. EEP! I knew that. Changed.
  18. SiouxMeNow- Actually, it is my impression that it isn't the NCAA's job to preserve or destroy Native American anything. Whether it is supporting or going against UND's name, it isn't their place. NCAA doesn't have to like our name. If they want it changed all they have to do is convince the member institutions to pass a by law requiring none of that type of imagery. Of course, Utah, CMU, and FSU would have to change their names too, but I don't see that as a problem if this issue truly is as bad as Brand has decided it is.
  19. Really? I thought he was showing us how crafty a head coach he is. I mean, he knows that the first thing opposing teams do is to tune into coaches show to find out how to play the Vikings. That's why we haven't had such a good year. Opposing coaches are either tuning into the coaches show every Wednesday or reading PCM's recaps here so they can learn how to play the Sioux better. I think Hakstol should be fired for giving away valuable intel to other teams via the media. Childress isn't a very good head coach thus far, but he is a first year coach. I think he's like a 3 year old who just got a toy he always wanted and doesn't want to share it just yet. Maybe he'll come around. Maybe he'll have to be slapped and sent into time-out.
  20. I would also add, though Phil's last 4 games have been good, it's a really high 1.25 GAA. Really, what are we averaginge? A few games ago it was mentioned we're averaging about 3 points a game. Probably less than that now that we went two games only scoring 2 goals. PCM is right. We aren't as deep in scoring forwards as we thought coming into this season. Forney hasn't found his scoring touch. Zajac hasn't found the net since the firest few games, Fabian just got a goal, Kaip isn't known for his scoring, Kozek and Watkins can't seem to light it up, Vandevelde is coming along but looking at his time at Moorhead and in Lincoln he's a late season bloomer, Oshie is having goal trouble (of course, even TH is starting to notice that he needs to shoot more)... I don't know why Kozek and Oshie are having such trouble scoring goals. Kozek especially. I've watched him a lot the past year and a half and I KNOW he has a scoring touch. I KNOW it. It just confounds me as to why he's not lighting it up. Oshie... this guy works harder that most anyone on the team. He flies around the rink every shift. He's hit the outside of the net, the cross bar, and missed sure goals a TON. Of course, you have the valid reason of injury for part of it, but still... In any case, historically speaking, the forwards (even with Stafford, Spirko, and Zajac) haven't exactly played well with Phil in net. And Lives-to-play- I'm not sure of there ever being a contraversy at the goaltending position. Hakstol plays the hotter goaltender (using a variety of criteria I surmise) and Phil has been the hotter tender this year. Sure, Grieco has had his moments (and hey, he's got one thing Phil doesn't: A W-L record above .500), but really, Phil has been the #1 goaltender since the moment Jordan Parise went pro.
  21. WOOOHOOOO We WIN! JOE FINLEY with the GWG! Ok, I'm putting my 3 stars together right now: First Star: Phil Lamoreaux Second Star: Joe Finley Third Star: Can I put the entire Sioux Defense here? Our D played well ALL WEEKEND LONG! Our D also scored the most points, which is good, but alarming at the same time.
  22. Woooo....... Let's do it!!! Comon! 37 seconds!
  23. We need to step up and SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT!
  24. Hooking on CC. Set it up again and give it to FINLEY!
  25. Zaba makes another save. Regarding the Wild: Figures. Never been impressed with P-M Bouchard.
