I hate these kinds of games.
-
1:15 of our PP was flat out pathetic. Then again, UMD plays the trap awfully well...
-
Sioux PP I don't like how this game is going.... Too tight.
-
Agreed. I'm not a big Shaffer fan, but Cornell is a darn good school. Maybe if Riley Nash commits to UND, Nash could face Nash!
-
You cite numbers and state this is why Massen was subpar and then contradict yourself. Good one! Don't cite numbers as the foundation of why Massen was a bust if numbers aren't everything.

CAT FIGHT!

Sioux-cia: Just do what everyone else does: Blame it all on Finley and Lee. Farce: I really like your post, however, I would love to know more about the Kaip line. Kaip scored the first goal last night and both Kaip and Fabian seem to be two of the few (Vandevelde, Oshie, and sometimes Porter and Toews) who consistently are not afraid to rush the net. As for UMD, I agree. I'm just stunned that the two goaltenders I thought would become dominant (Frazee and Stalock) have not had the best start to their college careers. Sure, Stalock is only a freshman and could improve (I would say will, but I said that about Frazee last year). Simply stunning to me. Niskanen is an EXTREMELY good defenseman. Raymond is excellent and Sharp is underrated. Aikens is the only Bulldog I'm not a fan of.

I agree. If Panzer couldn't win the Hobey with the numbers he put up, I'm doubting Duncan will win it with his. I'm sure this year's stats will put him on next year's ballot though.
-
Never fails. If the stats aren't padded, he must suck. I don't know how Fabian finds himself in the lineup. Or Rory McMahon the first three years as a Sioux. Or Mike Prpich. Or any of our defensemen from the past... I don't know.. .15 years with a few exceptions? Toews should have missed half the season due to his crappiness. Seriously, do you watch the games? If you did, you wouldn't have to rely on stat sheets so much
-
I loved watching that line play. Massen with Fabian and Canady IIRC. What a grinder line that was.

How's This?

Very good. You earn a cookie

While surfing I found a stuffed tribute to certain other WCHA school's cheerleaders. Here's the best: Any guesses which team?
-
I'm glad you did because juding from the third period (I missed the first two due to company ) I saw each team score one goal (On the Sharp goal, do we blame Lee or Finley?) and I saw basically both teams just sit back and pay for a tie (especially with less than 3 minutes left in the game). Going into OT I knew we'd tie. I just didn't expect to have Lammy save our bacon. It was nice UMD gave Miller a gift in OT but no surprise he didn't bury it. Not that I don't like Miller, I just think that's how OT has gone this year. I'm really at a loss. I mean, I love the "cute" goals like the one Duncan made or even the one by Sharp. But man... I saw a replay of the Kaip goal and I think THAT is the kind of goals that win us games. Bina throwing the puck on net and having two players crash the net for rebounds (Fabian was the other apparently). THROW the puck at the net and good things will happen. That's what I like about Bina and Chorney (as of late) and even Finley who is shooting more and what I miss most about Nick Fuher. Nick would shoot the puck just to shoot the puck. We REALLY need to do that more. We can't hope to just expect to burn defensemen all the time. And, let's face it, if I wanted to watch any more whiffs I'd watch some old Cubs games on tape. As per earlier in this post, I think I'm going to go ahead and blame this tie on Brian Lee. I don't know why, just because. Quick Edit: Regarding the officiating, I've had my eyes opened recently. I watched the Buffalo vs. Duluth East hockey game and the Blaine game. I've never seen more blown calls on overt penalties in my life. WCHA officials still suck, but at least I know that it could always be Minnesota High School quality.

Yeah, but those two kids at the far left, eyes wide, and fire engine red.... Future Devils!
-
I know I've talked about leadership and his skill sets, but one thing people haven't mentioned much is his work ethic. He may not score as much as some would like, but he works darn hard when he is on the ice. It gets overlooked because he's nowhere near as dynamic as Oshie.
-
And I'm pointing out that it is typical for people who are low on certain players (not just Grieco) to simply omit the evidence that shows he has what it takes to be a good player just to fit an argument. This isn't just you. You just typed up a post that best shows what I'm saying. Was the UAA outing bad? Yup. Can't argue there. You seem to forget something... like his performance against SCSU. Uh.... last time I checked, he looked AWFULLY good... But maybe it was because SCSU was a "easy win?" Oh wait.... Grieco's win was the last time SCSU would be beaten for over 12 games.... so that's not it. Grieco vs. SCSU. If you can't see that as SOMETHING, then you need to get glasses. Schweitzer showed up and almost immediately took over. I think that was a wonderful thing. However, I don't recall anyone expecting Grieco to march onto campus and immediately be looked upon as the #1 guy. And I don't know many here who are (right now) calling for a goaltending change. Which is why I state this: I know you HOPE you are wrong, but I KNOW you are wrong. That's what I'm saying.

I really like Roche's new number (He used to wear 76 IIRC)
-
Well said. I don't recall what was said about Porter coming into UND, but I don't recall him being called a "Playmaker" or a "Pure goal scorer" like Panzer or Duncan or Oshie or Toews. His Leadership has been stellar and he's still producing at an alright rate, even though he hit a mammoth slump in the middle of the season. He's never been outside of the top 10 on the team in scoring, even with his role of being a checking forward. I like what Porter brings to the team and so far, he's been utilized the way that he should be... as a checking line forward with scoring upside that can serve as the on ice and off ice leader of the team.

Then buy yourself a shovel of your choice, some red and black paint, a paint brush..... and there you go!

I'm confused as to why we expect FSN North to telecast anything other than Minnesota sports? Their slogan is "Where Minnesota fans come first" or something of that ilk. They are based in the Twin Cities. Their main market is Minnesota. What possible interest could they have in North Dakota? Even Wisconsin has their own Fox Sports Affiliate so they don't have to rely on FSN North. Let's face it, until we get a regional Fox Sports Affiliate to take up FSSN telecasts (or sign a contract to do so themselves) we won't see much Fighting Sioux hockey on FSN North. It is how it is. That being said, FSN North has done a lot for hockey in the region. They have MInnesota high school hockey on every now and then, Wild hockey (I hate the Wild, but they are the only channel I get that shows NHL), and cover the GOpher-Sioux tilt. So I'm happy. Do I wish the DU and SCSU games were televised? Sure, but expecting FSN North to do it is rather foolish.

I think it is amazing to see that fightingsioux4life has the kind of ability to declare that Grieco may be a bust after 6 or 7 appearances during his freshman year (most of the games while only 17 years old). Siembida came into UND just before his 19th birthday. Though Siembida's and Grieco's save% are similar for their freshmen year (just under .890) Grieco will more than likely finish with a winning record (3-2-1) whereas Siembida finished with a stellar 5-6-1 record. Now, I don't know about you, but most of us gave up on Siembida during or shortly after his Sophomore year. It's sad to see Grieco isn't all the way through his freshman year before people have given up on him. That being said, it's going to be rough when Phil graduates and we have Eidsness and Grieco as our goaltenders. I mean, one is already being called a bust and another is a relatively unknown like Grieco was coming in and I wonder how many games Eidsness will play before he'll be called another Siembida? 12? 6? 2? I can't wait to find out.

Congrats to Jonny T! On a side note, McBain was named Freshman of the Week, and despite it having no real relevance I thought it interesting that 3g 11a 14pts is good for 5th on the team in scoring. Puts that team in perspective, doesn't it?
