I feel like he was the least "Sioux-like" player I have ever seen at UND. Soft... never went into the boards, avoided contact. No grit, no grind. Seemed like a good kid, but definitely didn't ever fit the mold... IMO I guess. Good luck Taylor, I hope the Bisons treat you well. Is anyone else wondering where everyone is gonna fit this season? So many talented forwards.

Who cares? Neither of those things happened and LaLeggia won is anyway.... moving on
-
Good Lord.... Thank you Sick for finally flexing some muscle.... cmon guys... let's stay on topic and enjoy ourselves on here like we are supposed to.
-
Ok then... Go SIOUX lol

Ugh guys... all I'm saying is that Saunders played every game behind a hideous defense. I'm thinking his numbers will improve with UND. He wouldnt be coming here if he didn't have talent. We'll see.
-
Yeah, I guess I shouldn't have called him a godsend.... oh wait... I DIDN'T... thanks for putting words in my mouth. I am simply saying that this kid has been battle tested at the D-I level. Unlike Maris and Gothberg. Can Zane's numbers from the USHL translate to the WCHA? Maybe... I hope so. I used to coach the kid in little league baseball in Thief River, he's a great kid and I hope him a couple national titles at UND, but he hasn't been there yet. You are being extremely hypocritical by saying my stats are anecdotal and then offering one more game in your side of the arguement. I am no where near saying Saunders is in any way a "godsend." I am only saying that his experience shows he can perform. Put this kid behind a top flight defense at UND and he could be pretty damn good. So could Gothberg. It's all for the sake of argument. Do you think those performances in question were all the fault of Saunders? Could it possibly have been the defense in front of him? I think so... Will this kid be elite? I have no clue. Will he be serviceable and better with a good defense? In my opinion, without a doubt.

I think we may be overlooking Mr. Saunders.... this kid is going to be a Junior and is the definition of battle tested. He played in 27 games last year. A glance at the numbers may not overwhelm you as great (.906 save percentage, 3.72 GAA) but think about those numbers a little more. Saunders faced 1013 shots last year and stopped all but 95. That is almost 40 SHOTS A GAME!!! This kid had to bring his A game every single night just to keep an awful UAH team in it. In looking at the Chargers' schedule, Saunders made 44 saves in a 3-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha, 55 saves in a 1-1 tie with Air Force and 41 saves in a win against Denver. Yes this is a small sample, but the point is, behind an awful team, this kid put up some really good numbers against good teams. UAH's schedule is tougher than anyone in the ECAC's.... this kid, Mr. Saunders, is probably the real deal and will have just as much to say about a potential job in the pipes this year, and that's even if Dell DOES come back.

YES YES YES!!!! Awesome Danny... GO SIOUX!!!!

Not to knock on any certain players, but top end guys like Jones aren't choosing tough majors because they expect to play in the NHL. I'm sorry, but 'intro into anything' classes aren't causing these kids or any college student any great amount of stress. I don't think him going anywhere but UND is a good decision. But I am a little biased

Anyone willing to be 'that guy' to tweet this to Mr. Jones?? I just can't muster doing it haha. Anyone? Anyone?

Last year in Green Bay was a pretty good atmosphere. That being said, the Recsh Center is not the X and is way smaller. However, I do think if UND gets by WMU and the Gophs beat BU, that arena will be pretty damn packed and will be oozing with atmosphere. Sioux-Gophers with a chance to go to Tampa.... just got chills
-
But losing to a team like Mankato will hurt us in the Pairwise... we need a sweep
-
Oh boy.... Can't say I have ever been more nervous to play Mankato.... an absolutely HUGE series.... Go get it boys.... Sweep comin. I say we roll Friday and gut one out Saturday.... 5-1, 3-2

Some helpful evaluation for our most hated rivals ;)
stoneySIOUX replied to WYOBISONMAN's topic in Community
Good lord people.... HAVE A LAUGH!!!!! Thanks WYOBISONMAN! I thought it was funny and I still consider myself an intellectual -
I would absolutely love these results to hold.... Getting a crack at Shawn Hunwick and Michigan in the first round would be sweet.... I could see the Sioux skating to Tampa in that regional. We handled Maine earlier this year and Miami is a bit overrated. I would love this

Sack up... it's playoff time.... this team is already one of the best conditioned in the country because of their injuries. If Taylor Dickin is the reason this team can't win games, we were already in trouble. Our top two lines (and mix in the third) are very good lines. Our defense is on par with anyone in the country. Granted, like I said before, this doesn't help having Dickin out, but it should not make or break this team.
-
To think that Tate Maris can step in and play forward at the D-I level is simply laughable. He's a goaltender... period. Although it's a bummer that Dickin is out and we are out another skater, it doesn't change a lot about this team. Gleason will still bounce around the third and fourth lines and jump back to D. Dickin is in no way, shape, or form a gamechanger for this team. Go back and watch games in the past and watch his ice time when the game gets close. He and Senkbeil are never on the ice when it comes down to the big parts of the game. We'll be fine rolling 3 and a half lines.
-
Duluth is very overrated IMO.... look who they've played.... I did the numbers and the combined record of their opponents is 114-144-26.... sure you factor in Huntsville, but even after that, 112-120-25.... not impressive. They haven't been tested since playing the gophers. We can give them a big run
-
I guess I'm not 100% sure, but the I would consider the source to be very reputable that he is here this weekend. I guess take it for what I' worth haha. Sounds like the US Under 18 planned the weekend intending to send Jones, Koules and Matteau, but now it's just Jones and Koules. Hopefully it's true and hopefully it convinces Jones to come.
-
This would be the get of all gets for 2012-13... This kid is the real deal. Fast, strong, big, a puck mover and best of all, he's a student of the game and seems to always be in the right place. He's in Grand Forks this weekend for his official visit with Miles Koules... hopefully we dominate this weekend and land a kid that could be a huge, huge, HUGE piece... do some good work Mr. Koules. Be convincing!

Duh... sounds simple to me

GF Herald's Wayne Nelson calling UND "Green and White"
stoneySIOUX replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in UND Nickname
The only reason anyone uses the phrase "green and white" is simply to avoid repetition of UND when referring to the team throughout a story. Journalism 101 has been to avoid repetition and to flip flop between team name and location when writing. Since Fighting Sioux is no longer available, "North Dakota" and "green and white" are good and acceptable replacements for using UND over and over. When Wayne, Tom, Brad etc. write an article, they aren't thinking about the psyche of their readers and how this could affect their long-term thoughts about a particular nickname, they are simply trying to not sound poorly when writing on deadline. "Green and white" and "North Dakota" only give them flexibility. Period.... end of story. -
Hmmm.... let's see....Goertz: 43 tackles, 2nd on team, 11 starts.... Belloti: 35 tackles, 3rd on team, 11 starts.... Watkins: 28 tackles, 8th on team, 10 starts.... not stars??? Simply not true. When has UND ever treated "stars" any differently? I would love some reply on this. UND has always done an excellent job of disciplining players who break rules, in all sports.... Brad Kelley, Oshie, Frattin.... they all were dealt with the same as anyone else would.

You need to watch the third period of last night's game a lot more closely if you think Kristo didn't or doesn't pass the puck. He made an adjustment early on because he realized the collapsing nature that the Gophers played him last night. They completely eliminated him last night and Danny passed early and often in the 2nd and 3rd period. That being said, he's our best offensive player. He needs to shoot the puck. Watch the third period more closely....
