  1. I think it would be a big deal if the admin portrayed it as a student-driven initiative if it were not, but yeah, I completely agree it's honestly not a big deal. I just frickin' hate mascots hahaha
  2. I truly hope this was a groundswell from the students, but I definitely don't think this is the whole story. My guess... a group from the admin reached out to Student Gov to say they wanted to do this and asked if they thought this was a good idea. Then, Student Gov ran with it. They can let StuGov run it and look like the good guys, too. Again, just me spit balling, but it seems weird to think this was all started by the student population.
  3. Thanks. I know the story. I was joking.
  4. Haha... you can believe that, I understand. I definitely think this is being driven by the administration, however. You have more proof than I, but it seems pretty logical to me.
  5. Lol I personally don't believe this is driven by the students. Either way, I get why they are having one.
  6. He's just wanting people to stop fighting about how people choose to move on from a nickname. That's it.
  7. She probably died feeling pretty good about her choice in nickname.
  8. Because I've seen zero to suggest that this "debate" is stopping students from attending our University. Is it a positive? No. But this BS debate is not stopping people from coming to UND and that includes non-athletes. It's just not. Let's try a roleplay here... 17 year old D-1 hockey recruit: "Hmmmm... UND has a really good tradition of putting hockey players into the NHL, but I really don't like that the nickname debate is still ongoing." *Insert basketball, football, any sport or any non-athlete for any said benefit...* Long term, yes, I can absolutely understand the idea of donations being withheld potentially being a problem, but a 6-year trend is waaaay to small to decide if that's the case.
  9. AGAIN.... this is NOT helping the cause to tell people how they should and shouldn't feel or "grieve" this name change. As well-intentioned as I'm assuming this is, this whole thing is you telling adults how they need to think about something. Not gonna work and in fact, probably inflames the argument.
  10. I think students and student athletes could not care less whatsoever about this debate. Do you honestly believe a football, hockey, or basketball.... hell ANY recruit wouldn't come her because people debate about this on social media?? GTFO. I want proof of one situation that this has happened. Just one. And btw, they aren't dumping on the University. They are dumping on the nickname they don't like, so unless you have proof this is hurting the University, it's a nonsensical, strawman argument.
  11. Like I said to the other crowd... name calling and all this nonsense isn't helping your cause, either.
  12. You're becoming my favorite person on this board, my friend
  13. Again, yeah, this'll help...
  14. Any fanbase would be upset for a long time if they had to change their name. Add a tradition as strong as ours, a process that was flubbed, removing for a reason that many think is ridiculous and unfair, a generic logo and nickname and you have a fanbase who will take longer than most to move on. But no... this side has to just "GET OVER IT" because the other side says so.
  15. How is this negatively affecting the University? I'd love to hear an example of this. Social media is FILLED with nonsense. Are players not coming to UND because fans argue about the nickname? No. Are donors still donating? Yes. Sure, this could change long term is this isn't eventually stopped, but at this moment, I fail to see how the University is affected by our whining and moaning on social media and message boards. You don't like it, so you see the University is being painted negatively. The Sioux Forever crowd is holding onto the name and see it as a badge of honor to fight for. Maybe, we all just relax and let the whole thing play its course. What affect is it to you personally other than you finding it annoying?
  16. Oh jees, c'mon. Like we've had such a sterling reputations among other team's fans anyway. I think most fans from other teams understand the feeling of the people who don't want to let go of the Sioux nickname. They didn't want it to go, either.
  17. Haha fair point. I'm just saying, seems like a lot, but yes, I do understand why it's being done and why the money spent.
  18. Again, by telling someone how they should feel about something, you aren't helping. Do it your way and they'll do theirs.
  19. Yeah, I know. I'm personally not suffering any wounds, but the analogical wounds are deep, for many
  20. It's an analogy. Want me to go back and put quotes around it? Would that help?
  21. I think the issue for me is the fact that it's $35,000 for a Halloween costume
  22. You can quantify it all you want and it won't change a thing. Again, all your opinions. Until we all quit the whining and name calling ON BOTH SIDES, it's never going to get better. Just understand that it's not going to happen the way you want it and get over it. Time will heal all wounds and you just have to accept that.
  23. And? What's it to you how fast or slow someone moves on from something?
  24. You just spent the previous four sentences relating well to a problem that seems very passionate and difficult. In the last sentence, you make it sound so easy to just "get over." Wouldn't all of that passion and difficultly take time to move on from? Some have gotten there quickly. Others have not. Just accept that and we'll all be better off. The reciprocal is the same for the "Sioux Forever" crowd.
  25. Fair enough, man. Fair enough.
