  1. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me where I could pick up a video of the Miracle on Ice game, or even the movie. I can't find it anywhere, all I found was the 'Do You Believe In Miracles' documentary that doesn't have the entire game on it.
  2. As much as I'd like to see Parise play for the Wild, I tend to agree with Handyman on this issue. The Wild have plenty of small speedy playmakers, but they are lacking in the big forwards. In reality someone like Vanek would probably be a better draft. Hopefully the wild can trade up for a higher pick, but who knows... I would like to see Parise go before #21 anyway.
  3. Don't they bring it to their home towns? In which case it would go to Colorado Springs? On that note... has the cup ever been to North Dakota? It would be sweet to see it in Grand Forks
  4. Ok well I'll give it a shot too. 1. Minnesota - what can you say about a team that has that much success and doesn't lose a SINGLE key player. I'll tip my hat to Lucia. 2. North Dakota - UND has got a championship calibur team in the making. The talent will be there next season to get the the F4, no one is doubting that, but it takes more than talent to get there. UND will be able to play with anyone in the country, as they could last season, but they had a missing link, when the offense was producing, the goaltending wasn't, and when the goaltending started to improve, the offense dissapeared. Hopefully the goaltending improvment will carry on to this season, and the offensive gap we saw last year will be filled with the likes of murray and stafford, and the seasoning that the current roster will gain. Defense should be about as strong as last year, the team was getting used to not having Hale around, and with Smaby coming in, and Jones and Greene having a season under their belt, I think everyone will be looking towards Schneider for leadership in that department, now if they could only get that shot from the point off faster on the PP.... 3. Minnesota Duluth - They made an impressive run last year, playing because they basically had nothing to lose. I haven't heard much about the recruiting class, but Reichmuth impressed me alot, and we all know that the Caig has been tapped. Stapelton will be good and I'm taking a guess at their first line - Francisco centering Caig and Lessard, that line will be able to score goals with the best of them. As for depth, they don't have what UND or Minnesota does, but I would guess that Sandelin will begin to bring sucess to that Duluth pretty soon. 4. Colorado College - Yes, they lost Preissing, Hobey (Sejna), Clarke, and Cullen, which is why they won't be as competetive as last year, but they had strong underclassmen and were a deep team last year. They will be in the race for home ice. 5. Mankato - with Stevenson going to play for the sharks, 'kato loses possibly the best player they have had in a long time. Joseph will probably return, but he will not be as effective without stevenson. Very few of his goals were assisted by someone other than Stevenson. Volp is solid in net, and they have a few returning 20+ point scorers, so I would expect them to have decent season. 6. Denver - Denver loses Dubie, Doell, and McKenzie. Ouch. Berkhoel is a great netminder but I still thought Dubie was possibly the best goaltender in the WCHA since... Karl? well maybe not but... It would be an argument. I haven't heard much about the DU recruits, but I'm about 100% sure they can't make up for losing their top scorer, one of the best defensmen in the WCHA, and arguable the best goaltender in the WCHA too. I think this would be an optimistic finish for Denver. 7. St. Cloud - Well... they ARE bringing in Minnesota's Mr. Hockey, but they did wave goodbye to Motzko and Cullen, their top 2 scorers, and of course Grand Forks Central's own Jake Moreland is done, They could do some more damage than 7th, but this is (to me, anyway) a probable finish. 8. Wisconsin - Word has it that Eaves has brought in the #1 recruiting class. Leavitt is gone, and my guess is this team is going to be starting mostly freshman and sophomores on their top lines. We all know how that goes. 9. Michigan Tech - Coach Russel will be in his first season, and the only thing I saw from them that had any promise was Cam Ellsworth. Anyone know of any good recruits? 10. Alaska Anchorage - I'm sorry, they didn't win a single game last season, and I don't see them doing much more. Hopefully their players can stay off the suspended list this season, its kind of tough to win games when 16 players can't play. Please feel free to rip me apart now
  5. Alex Leavitt will be joining the WHL next season: Leavitt to play for Broncos. Date Posted: Mon Jun 02 06:59:54 CST 2003 By: Tom Varley Alex Leavitt, a 19 year old from Edmonton, Alberta recently announced that he will be joining the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL next season. Leavitt who accumulated 13 goals and 39 points in 67 games in the NCAA will be an immediate hit in the WHL. Leavitt currently on the scales reads 5'11'' and 170 pounds. It has seemed that over the last few seasons that any player who has left the NCAA for the WHL has had an immediate impact. Chuck Kobasew who left Boston College for Kelowna became one of the top scorers in the league. Bryan Nathe when he left the NCAA became a top defencmen for the Brandon Wheat Kings. And Duncan Keith left Michigan State for Kelowna became top 5 defencmen in the WHL. Leavitt, who was originally drafted by the Broncos in the 1999 WHL Bantam Draft, will immediately be thrust into the Broncos top 2 lines where he will be expected to lead a very young offence. Leavitt for made his mark on the hockey scene, when he joined the Notre Dame Hounds. He first started off playing Bantam AAA and Midget AAA, but he came into his own playing Junior A for the Hounds. In his first season in the SJHL, the 16 year old scored 26 goals and 58 points to lead the team in scoring. He was named the teams Most Valuable Player and was the SJHL?s rookie of the year. At only 17, Leavitt moved down to the University of Wisconsin. Leavitt is still expected to be drafted this season. He is also expected to have a shot at making the 2003-2004 Under-21 Canadian World Junior Team. Leavitt already has experience on the international stage when he suited up for Canada at the Under-18 Six Nations Cup. Leavitt was at the center of a major controversy this season at Wisconsin. In late February the the University of Wisconsin came down with a decision that head coach Mike Eaves would remain their head coach, even in light of relevations that alledged he used physical force in confrontation with Leavitt, after a a conditional agreement was reached by all parties.
  6. I would bet that UMD will be a top 4 WCHA team next year, and make the NCAA's, but I am skeptical of Denver. I doubt they have brought in a strong enough freshman class to make up for the loss of Doell, Dubie, and McKenzie. However... they do still have Dora the Explora
  7. I agree with you. I think Brandt definately has what it takes to become a top notch goaltender, but he's just not there yet. He did, however, start to show signs of greatness in the WCHA playoffs against Denver and Duluth. Didn't Jake win the award for most valualbe goaltender in Minnesota in high school back in 99 or so? I think With these new goalies coming in, and Jake being an upperclassman, he will begin to find his skates in the crease. But, as I'm sure everyone else is as well, I'm quite excited to see J. Parise mind some net
  8. I can't wait to see these guys play next year... 2 Parises, Stafford, Smaby, Murray... Hopefully with some solid goaltending we will be able to match Minnesota's talent depth.
  9. I think you hit dead on with schneider, great skills, but the problem with the Sioux's powerplay was that they couldnt get a shot on net without it being blocked by sprawled out body. Fuher and Schneider need to get their shots off faster.
  10. Prpich would be my first guess, but I will vote for McMahon, he is one of, if not the best face off taker on the team, and he works hard. I think Him and Hale and Prpich are going to produce alot of offensive chances for the sioux with the way they can forecheck and dig out pucks. I think the team we will see next year is going to be ALOT deeper than last seasons.
  11. Haha, you think that was bad defense, check this one out... Brady's got some wheels!: http://www.sasilverbacks.com/Archive/24%20...s%20Cow%20V.mpg I wonder where Nikiforuk is gonna play next year.... my guess is not in the NCAA
  12. I was bored and surfing around in class and found a pretty good video clip of UND's 2003-04 freshman Brady Murray. Take a look and lets hear what ya think. http://www.sasilverbacks.com/Archive/Feb_1...14_vsVernon.mpg
  13. I've watched the last couple of Blues games and I haven't seen Sejna at all, I thought he was going to play in the playoffs?
  14. I've stated this before, but this looks like a good spot for it. I think that Prpich is one of (if not, the) strongest skaters on the team, he fights off checks and I can't remember how many times I've seen him hold off a big defender with one arm, and bring the puck in with the other. He will be a great help in the years to come. Also, He, Hale, and McMahon did a hell of a job on a containment line, especially in the playoffs vs. DU.
  15. I would guess that Siembida may be headed back to juniors for a while, and considering Ziggy turned down scholarships from the likes of CC, and Duluth, I would guess he wouldn't have too much trouble walking on here at UND.
  16. Good to know.
  17. Where is Fabian from? Is he another Shattucks kid?
  18. No no no, Woog ain't so bad.... it's Mozzocco that's awful. I absolutely can't stand that guy. Definately the worst commentator.
  19. Even though I'm as big a Sioux fan as can be, I gotta root for the rival in this one. They are the neighbors, and they are the only WCHA team left. I also would be very pleased to see the WCHA win back to back titles. Let's go Gophers! Bring the NCAA title back to the WCHA again.
  20. I'm gonna have to say I wasn't so sure about Cornell being the team they are played out to be, that is until I watched them play. LeNeveu... well his numbers speak for themselves. He's unbelievable. They have a big strong defense led by Murray, and their offense executes with precision like no other team I saw this year. They don't play fancy, they are just straight good hockey, and they work together very well. Against MSU-Mankato, they looked like they were on the PP almost the entire time it was even strength. Their special teams looked great also. They are quite possibly the best all around team in the Frozen Four. I think Minnesota will get by Michigan, and probably make one hell of a game out of the championship, but I would put my money on Cornell.
  21. Post who you think will be in the championship and what the score will be if you wish Cornell - 4 Minnesota - 3
  22. Well, I'm watching the MSU-Cornell game now, looks like a good one, 'kato just scored. The team showed a lot of potential this year, but just didn't have what it takes. Ferris outplayed us, good luck to them against Minnesota, although they won't win. Here's looking forward to next year, we've got some good recruits coming in, and I'm hoping they will bring in some talent between the pipes. We didn't lose that game because of the goaltending, but it was still shaky. Now, it's time to go root for the WCHA teams. Let's go West!
  23. OK, I just called MidCo and they told me that the game was not being broadcast anywhere and so they won't be able to pick it up. I find that hard to believe since the Ferris station is showing it, but I decided not to get into an argument with the MidCo people. I've had trouble with my internet through them before and I can never get anywhere with their customer service. I won't be able to see the game, I've got a track meet during the day, but I wanted to tape it. If anyone gets ahold of a tape somehow or another, that would be wonderful.
  24. I'm very suprised to see coach Blais put Ryan at Defense, and Marvin at Offense. I really thought that he would have a sort of checking/containment line of Hale/McMahon/Prpich matched up with the Kunitz line. However, I am not one to question a move by Blais this time of the year, he obviously has some idea of what he's doing out there
  25. I thought it was suppose to be on.... either FSN or the Sioux channel
