They're off. Better pop one in soon or else they are setting themselves up for a weak Duluth goal to steal this.
-
Careful what you wish for. Keep too many classes online for too long and take away too many extracurricular activities (player and spectator) and UND turns into Univ of Phoenix.
-
Point being that if no one ever spoke up, no rules would ever change. The "we should just be happy they are letting us do something" mentality has gotten crazy.
-
And despite roster sizes 4-5 times bigger than hockey...none of the major football bowl games were cancelled. Have a hard time believing that all testing has been done equally across all sports.
-
Keep just blindly complying with whatever is fed to you even if it is completely void of common sense.

Gotta be honest, the writing was on the wall with this one. Anyone that poured a bunch of money into this knew the risks given the way NCAA caved to the just flatten the curve narrative. Meanwhile the rest of the students on campus will be out boozing at various local bars tonight and won't need to be tested 3 times in 72 hours before they return to school on Monday.

To avoid a complete knockout due to positives or contact tracing, I wonder what precautions UND has put in place. Wouldn't they almost need to compartment their socializing to avoid that scenario? I.e. 3 players groups can hang together but you better not all gather as a team?
-
The let'er rip mentality worked if that's the case. Stories were abound this summer of UND athletes partying together even to the point of getting party busses together.
-
It's unfortunate. Hopefully all hockey fans including Sioux fans have stated bracing themselves for what seems like the inevitable. Two teams knocked out in under a week.....and there is still 2 weeks until the Frozen Four

Higher level within the appropriate age group.

No you pretty much nailed it. Suburban or Yukon XL no more than 2-3 years old (mid or top trim level of course). But there is much more to being part of the club than just having the vehicle. You also must have at least one decal on back window of vehicle advertising which AAA spring team(s) you bought your kids onto the previous year (AAA in name only as the vast majority of the teams have no tryout process and instead are determined by a group of parents kissing a** and pretending to like the couple people in charge of picking the team.......even though secretely no one likes them). Regular season teams are determined by a tryout process but instead of hiring independent evaluators to slot kids which is something USA hockey will help facilitate, GF does their own thing in house. In Grand Forks you mostly have dad coach evaluators whose careers fizzled out in high school trying to make sure their kids are always slotted on the best team whether their talent warrants it or not. When Steve Johnson hit Hwy 2 to go coach UMC he drug a trail of parents whose lips were still attached to his rear. Too many egos to get all their kids on a AA team? Just create an extra AA team like they did at GF PeeWee this year even though there is only one AA Bantam team for those kids to feed into. One more thing you can't forget, can't be a hockey mom without black Canada goose down jacket. Without one of those you might as well be from North of Demers.

Now you are reaching. Speeding has the opportunity to cause harm just like coming in close contact with someone carrying Covid-19. The common sense part that you are struggling with is being able to recognize is that speeding 26 in a 25 has very minimal (if any) effect on the probably of serious injury. However going 50 in a 25 is a different deal. Similarly, standing shoulder to shoulder with 2000 people in the concourse isn't the best idea right now.......but a small group of 4 sitting with their mask down in a large arena spaced out from the next person offers minimal if any extra risk (much like speeding 26 in a 25). As for your continued obsession with "Ask Jody, Ask Jody"....frankly I don't care what he has to say on the topic. At the end of the day I'm spending my money elsewhere until the product is back to normal.

By obtaining a driver's license and driving on the roads in North Dakota you agree to follow the rules of the road......doesn't mean that officers pulling you over everytime you are only 1mph over the speed limit is necessary......or that it will result in roads that are significantly safer. So rules are rules and they must always be followed no matter what?
-
See this is the flip side of the unwavering "just comply and be happy we are giving you something" attitude that exists. You can force someone to wear a mask in a store.....or a stadium.....but you can't force someone to want to go to that store or stadium. The price paid for a ticket absolutely comes into play. Is it worth the hassle and decreased experience if you are paying $25 for a ticket? Maybe. Is it worth paying more for that "experience" than what you would have paid for a normal experience one year earlier? Absolutely not. This is where the common sense comes into play. Yes enforce it in the concourse, lines, etc......but when people are already spaced out and sitting with people they know be smart enough to not hassle a family of 4 that paid $400 to watch a game about putting masks up in between bites.
-
A severely degraded experience is the reason. No tailgating (it could be 35 and sunny pregame) and the real risk of mask police breathing down your neck. Also, youth travel sports like basketball and hockey are in full swing which doesn't help since people have busy schedules. Finally, the last part that people don't want to talk about is the total lack of buzz surrounding the program as they trot out old slow and steady Bubba for yet another season of guaranteed mediocrity.

Wouldn't that be like when the Vikings sent Troy Williamson to a hand/eye coordination specialist? Maybe a little too late by then?

2020-21 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
TheFlop replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Price was reasons 1-5 for why tickets went unsold. UND tried to make back too much money too quickly. A premium price can be justified for a premium product/atmosphere like a packed house UND/Gopher game. However few people are willing to pay out that kind of money for the privilege of reduced concession options, less breathability via a mask, a list of rules they must follow, and a reduced social experience of not running into all of your buddies in the concourse. -
It's not really a great sign when an up and coming younger coach stagnates for 7 years as a special teams coach at a program not known for paying a boatload of money to coaches. The good ones are typically plucked away by other programs after that amount of time. Whether it's a lack of special teams talent or a lack of coaching ability, it falls on the head coach to fix it. Finally dumping Rudolph and giving Freund a shot was better late than never. Maybe it's getting close to time for another change.
