  1. There is at least one story circulating of a group of UND athletes having a photo taken celebrating an award. Kennedy kept trying to get in the photo while Faison kept trying to pull him out since he felt it should be about the athletes. Regardless of where you stand on Kennedy, no one disagrees that the man never met a photo op he didn't like. Could be just a story, but is very interesting that soon after there is the infamous "paperless" consultant study done of the athletic department and Faison "retires" soon after. Probably all just one big coincidence.
  2. They aren't just rumors on this board. If even 5-6 guys on the team like Bowen better it could lead to a fractured locker room again.
  3. Yeah but Wade Murphy just needed more time to develop.
  4. Assuming that only members of the Sioux will progress during the off-season but every other team's players won't is the stupid assumption.
  5. If you wanna use the injury excuse, Western Michigan was decimated by injuries much worse than the Sioux were 2nd half of year. Without those injuries (including a Hobey candidate) Western Michigan probbaly doesn't drop below UND in the standings.
  6. Connor Gaarder was a nice player, but he never really lit it up. But since you brought him up, that is exactly the problem with the team this year and more than likely next year. It is loaded with a bunch of Connor Gaarder skill level players (3rd/4th line blue collar players). This team needs some juice and the scary part is several of the guys most capable of providing it were healthy scratches at the end (Hoff, Adams).
  7. Agreed. Except Gersich at this point is more of a ECHL/Europe type of player. He should chat with Jason Gregoire.
  8. You don't.....but being a captain means you are basically the sheriff of the team. As long as people are doing their jobs you are in the background. When they screw up (or start sleeping with a teammates girlfriend) you lay the hammer down.
  9. People are down enough right now.....don't kick them while they are down by pointing out there is no calvary coming next season.
  10. You aren't giving JJ due credit by him not being listed higher.
  11. I agree......but don't underestimate the slap in the face effect of him often sitting while guys like Olson were logging PP time.
  12. We are happy for you.
  13. This team was a dumpster fire behind the scenes this year. That is absolutely pertinent to those that discuss.....follow.....and shell out alot of money to support. Doesn't make any of them bad people......but team chemistry and spotty goaltending killed the team this year.
  14. Heaven forbid a senior "National Championship " caliber level goalie bail out a freshman.
  15. Best post of night.
  16. Law school, aviation, psychology........do your own research. There is more to UND than figuring out if the football team will finish .500 this year with a true freshman or a juco transfer as 3rd string free safety.
  17. Since there are only two real women's Olympic hockey teams there are only two places, first place and last place. Congrats for pulling 1 out of the last 3 out. Amazing how people are buying into whatever Kennedy says. No matter who he cuts....what he cuts....what crony he turns around and gives the money too....how often he seems to be gone.....and even him clearly already looking for other jobs.....all he has to do is announce that "this is actually a good thing" and the public buys it. Although budget cuts have stabilized, UND is still losing some of their best professors via attrition as we speak because of Kennedy. The type of professors you just don't get back overnight.
  18. So downtown has the late night bar scene cornered on Friday and Saturday nights (during the school year).....don't see alot of bikes that time of night and people aren't walking from campus to get there......so why the need for more bike Lanes and bumpouts? But I'll give you standing at any downtown bar and counting people during an entire week. Then I'll stand outside BWW that same week and see which place does more business. Not saying downtown shouldn't exist, but it also shouldn't get a disproportionate amount of the resources since a week involves more than just a couple hours two nights a week.
  19. You stand downtown by Demers and count the number of people on their bikes on any given day, especially in the winter, and I will stand by a restaurant/bar on any other non-downtown road in Grand Forks counting the number of cars I see on the same day......my 10-1 estimate is conservative.
  20. You can't be serious. When it comes to anything downtown the city council (minus Weigel and Sande) is a rubber stamp for the wishes of the DDA.....whose leadership reads as a who's who of Grand Forks downtown business owners (the majority of restaurants/bars down there).
  21. For every person that wants to go downtown there are 10 that don't want to deal with it....in Fargo and Grand Forks. I'm not saying no one enjoys the crammed in feel of it, but it's niche......a small but vocal minority of a niche. All of Fargo has grown....not just downtown.....and strip out the handouts and it would be interesting to see if downtown Fargo looks the way it does. The same urbanists that always want to point out "wasted" space in suburban areas.....never want to point to the empty bike racks....bike paths....and pedestrian sidewalks when it is below zero and snowy.
  22. Because if Fargo does it Grand Forks needs to do it too. People live in different towns for reasons. Many people choose to live in Grand Forks because it isn't Minneapolis or Fargo.
  23. Yes, now all we need is for someone on the council (or the "vibrancy" gang) to create a weather machine that can eliminate the months of late Nov/Dec through mid March so those of us in mainstream society that don't like walking/biking in Sub-Zero temps will actually use the new walk/bike friendly downtown.
