  1. 20 years ago? Yes. But since you brought it up, full color Kindles can be had for $50-$100 depending on size. I'm guessing that price can be even cheaper in bulk. I'd be more likely to support a program that puts a new Kindle in the hand of every kid......and even one in the hand of every adult that demonstrates need. Wi-Fi is everywhere and the internet is full of free books and entertainment options. Would be exponentially cheaper than building a library. Shopping....education....etc is all moving away from bricks and mortar but for some reason the small but vocal library proponents insist on a big new physical building.
  2. Just not demand that justifies the expenditure.
  3. Those numbers really aren't that great when you think about it. I have a lbrary card......but haven't been into the Grand Forks library in the last 10 years. Simple Google handles many more "reference questions" in a day than the library does. As for the public computer usage......would be very interested to see how many actual unique users there were versus how many of those uses were repeated uses by a relatively small group of individuals. Regardless, the numbers you cite don't justify a new library costing tens of millions of dollars.
  4. Before anyone is allowed to vote for a downtown library location......they should be required to visit the downtown Duluth library. While there, picture the same clientele but with a much worse parking situation which would be the case in downtown Grand Forks. http://www.kbjr6.com/story/37839278/bed-bug-scare-at-duluth-library-prompts-overnight-treatment-open-for-business
  5. Problem is Philadelphia is a major market. 1/2 of the teams make the playoffs every year. His first year at Philly was solid. Last year was not. This year Philly is solid again but not great. This isn't college where the locals will just keep patting him on the head and say wait til next year. The results he has had would be fine if he was in Buffalo, Carolina, Florida, etc, but won't keep him behind the bench in Philly for long.
  6. What would Pete Haga do then???
  7. If he's truly an NHL player, he should have made those around him better this year.....just like Jost and Boesser did to him. That didn't happen.
  8. For those assuming that the sophomore class will just automatically develop by next season.....Shane Gersich never progressed from his soph to junior year. I wonder if he realizes that the puck bunnies on the AHL circuit are fewer and more worn out than what he had access to at UND.
  9. As for the argument about NDSU or UND having higher standards.....it's like arguing whether Grand Forks or Fargo has more mosquitos in the summer. Both colleges have a very small number of programs that are tough to get into. However, unless you are a knuckle dragger that still does homework with a chisel and a piece of slate, getting into either college is quite easy.
  10. There is at least one story circulating of a group of UND athletes having a photo taken celebrating an award. Kennedy kept trying to get in the photo while Faison kept trying to pull him out since he felt it should be about the athletes. Regardless of where you stand on Kennedy, no one disagrees that the man never met a photo op he didn't like. Could be just a story, but is very interesting that soon after there is the infamous "paperless" consultant study done of the athletic department and Faison "retires" soon after. Probably all just one big coincidence.
  11. They aren't just rumors on this board. If even 5-6 guys on the team like Bowen better it could lead to a fractured locker room again.
  12. Yeah but Wade Murphy just needed more time to develop.
  13. Assuming that only members of the Sioux will progress during the off-season but every other team's players won't is the stupid assumption.
  14. If you wanna use the injury excuse, Western Michigan was decimated by injuries much worse than the Sioux were 2nd half of year. Without those injuries (including a Hobey candidate) Western Michigan probbaly doesn't drop below UND in the standings.
  15. Connor Gaarder was a nice player, but he never really lit it up. But since you brought him up, that is exactly the problem with the team this year and more than likely next year. It is loaded with a bunch of Connor Gaarder skill level players (3rd/4th line blue collar players). This team needs some juice and the scary part is several of the guys most capable of providing it were healthy scratches at the end (Hoff, Adams).
  16. Agreed. Except Gersich at this point is more of a ECHL/Europe type of player. He should chat with Jason Gregoire.
  17. You don't.....but being a captain means you are basically the sheriff of the team. As long as people are doing their jobs you are in the background. When they screw up (or start sleeping with a teammates girlfriend) you lay the hammer down.
  18. People are down enough right now.....don't kick them while they are down by pointing out there is no calvary coming next season.
  19. You aren't giving JJ due credit by him not being listed higher.
  20. I agree......but don't underestimate the slap in the face effect of him often sitting while guys like Olson were logging PP time.
  21. We are happy for you.
  22. This team was a dumpster fire behind the scenes this year. That is absolutely pertinent to those that discuss.....follow.....and shell out alot of money to support. Doesn't make any of them bad people......but team chemistry and spotty goaltending killed the team this year.
  23. Heaven forbid a senior "National Championship " caliber level goalie bail out a freshman.
  24. Best post of night.
