Seriously? That doesn't sound right, I feel like they've made at least one

They have not. They also never made the WCHA Final Five when they were in the WCHA for its final years before realignment.

And they are the only NCHC team to have never made the Frozen Faceoff.

Could this be why Andy Murray left, or was encouraged to leave?

I thought about that too but the first incident happened long before he left and apparently he was the one that named Washe captain. Timing didn’t make sense to me. After hearing everything today, I wonder how much more they really covered up. I think WMU needs to answer some questions, though not sure they ever will. I don’t think they can comment on an active criminal investigation, which is why we are just hearing about this now.

Saw a week or so ago his coach said he was suspended indefinitely for disciplinary reasons.

He has been suspended since January. No one knew why until today. Figured it had to be pretty bad…

There’s also this circulating from who appears to be a soccer player at Western Michigan. Not great.

Let’s not hold his brother responsible for his actions.  Don’t know that it is something to tease someone about, especially if he turned out to be innocent.  Would guess there is some information that would lead the coaches and University to suspend him though.  Hate to see hockey tarnished with these type of crimes.  Would guess that Mitchell Miller would have been a bigger distraction because of his past.  You hope to recruit character guys, but you never truly know what type of individual you have, and to think he was their captain.

I mean he was arrested for rape so pretty sure there’s at least some evidence of his guilt…

I think Hain comes back. Sendo less likely as I bet he'll get AHL offers. He plays a great defensive game in all three zones, great motor and effort, and all the intangibles. I don't see anyone other than Sandy leaving early.

Probably going to need to grab a transfer D and maybe one more forward, but I'd expect to see us lean heavy on our current recruiting pipeline next year and that's a plus.

It’ll be really interesting to see which guys on other teams decide to take a 5th year. Sounds like the pro opportunities for college free agents were really slim last year which is why a lot of guys ended up taking a 5th year. Be interesting to see if that’s changed since last year.

I'm guessing if Berry wants to bring Senden and Hain back, there wouldn't be a lot of room to dip in the portal and still bring in the guys in juniors that need to be here.  Hopefully guys like McGlaughlin and Blake can make an immediate impact, as we could use some offensive punch to go along with the units we have coming back, although I am guessing that Kunz and Schmaltz will become more consistent next year.

Like it’s different when you lose a lot of guys like we did last year and transfers make sense. This year is completely different. Very small senior class and looking like minimal early departures so it doesn’t seem necessary to be looking at transfers.

Do we have room for any grad transfers next year? Some potential pick ups:

    Taylor Ward

    AJ Vanderbeck

    Owen Sillinger

    Brian Halonen

    Trenton Bliss

Not going to say who, but wouldn't be surprised to see a current player or two cut loose.

No. I’d rather bring in our recruits.

Schlossman with retweet showing Tri City traded Benoit for another older defenseman to help them win now.  The other guy is a Michigan State recruit.  May suggest Benoit may not be ready to come in next year. Interesting to see who might come in next year.

Didn’t think Benoit would be here next year anyway. We have no senior defensemen and so likely just losing Sanderson.

    For those fans that travel

which rink has the best fans and atmosphere and which rink has the worst fans and atmosphere

conference rinks only , food counts too

Miami is my favorite road trip in the NCHC. I haven’t made it back in a while but it was my first NCHC road trip and nothing else has been able to live up to it. Granted, I went when Miami was challenging for league titles so the atmosphere might have fallen off since then.

Unpopular opinion but I don’t see so much of the appeal of Western Michigan. Everyone raves about their student section but I couldn’t even understand anything they were yelling about. I also got sick there so that may taint my opinion lol.

Omaha fans are annoying. One year I had a cowbell lady behind me and the other were a bunch of fake fans wearing Huskers shirts.

Denver fans are stuck up snobs.

Duluth has a fireplace on the concourse lol.

SCSU is appealing just because it’s a quick trip. If it wasn’t not sure I’d go back. Just wasn’t anything to write home about.

I'm guessing they'll win their last four games.
I just can't see them dropping any games to UNO or CC, even if they're on the road for 3 of those games.

Which means we'll need to win out in order to win the Penna Rosa.
I see us winning 3 of the last 4 games...I'd love to see us sweep WMU, but they're a strong team and better than UMD.  So that would put us just a couple points behind DU for the regular season title.

I'd honestly be ok with that if it played out that way, even if I'd love to see them win the Penna title again.  With how much this team lost this offseason, and how many ups and downs they had during the season...it'd be damn impressive finishing in the top 2 of the strongest league in the NCAA's and they'd be set up well for the tourney.

Denver is not a great road team. I think they’re like 8-6, so I’m not sure they can sweep Omaha on the road. The only NCHC road sweep they have was at Miami and one of those wins was an OT win so they didn’t get the full 6 points. So it wouldn’t surprise me if Omaha steals some points from them.

Maybe a petty gripe but the league inexplicably omitted Jamernick’s goal in the highlights from last night. Not only was it a great short handed goal but it also turned out to be the game winner.

They updated the highlight video this afternoon if you haven’t seen it. I thought it was an omit on UMD’s end, since I figured they compiled the video highlights, but they (NCHC) tweeted me the updated video to include Jamernik’s goal.

    • Singleton ('04) - 57 points (20 G 37 A) in 56 games (21st in AJHL in scoring)
    • Hedquist ('03) - .913 SV %, 2.46 GAA
    • Slipec ('05) - 31 points (15 G 16 A) in 42 games (including 13 in last 10)

I would think Hedquist would come in next year, but I agree Singleton won't. Slipec would be too young. What's your definition of struggling pretty good lately?

I’ve never really thought any of these guys would be here next year, since I thought Singleton was behind the USHL guys anyway, and Slipec is too young, but as far as Hedquist goes, if he’s ready, bring him in, but if not, I would leave him in juniors because we will already have 3 goalies on the roster next year. I’m not sure if we are planning to carry four every year.

Even so, they could be a scary team to face in the postseason.  Duluth hasn't had great league finishes and still caught fire in the postseason.  Could use a little help from them this weekend against Western Michigan.

I mean it depends how the rest of the regular season shakes out. SCSU might not even make it to the Frozen Faceoff if they don’t get home ice, which would probably put their NCAA hopes in question. Especially if they don’t knock out some wins down the stretch. So we’ll see what happens with their upcoming games.

I, personally, am rooting for a UMD/SCSU first round NCHC matchup.

UMD and SCSU going to shootout helps a bit in the race for home ice, being that neither got full points.
How does SCSU only have 5 regulation conference wins in 15 games played? :0

I think their only win against a team that is top 4 of the NCHC so far is their 8-1 win against us in December. Explains why they are 5th.
