Just finished looking at the Herald and it has UND at 11. Even ranked St. Cloud higher,,,,,,,,,,

I have no idea what some of you people are looking at so I have decided You must be looking at last year’s ranking because this year’s ranking UND is 4 and SCSU is 12.

Pretty sure we were 11 in last year’s though.

We’re we even after him? Other than a big 5 nations, his production doesn’t necessarily pop

I don’t know for sure, but I kind of feel like it was just assumed we were. But considering we tend to recruit mostly out of junior hockey these days and he’s at Shattuck I never really thought he was considered a high priority.

I don’t want caulfield in the top 6 either but it was a common theme last year. This was more of a projection of what I think we will see. I’d rather see McLaughlin and James higher up soon but idk if that’ll happen. Also I’d be surprised if the D lines aren’t close to what I have with maybe 1 swap being Jandric and Moore. What’s your guess?

I absolutely expect James and McLaughlin to be top 6/top 9 guys. Just strictly based on listening to Berry (and even Senden more recently) talk in a few interviews in preseason.

Mostly I just want them to try new combos in the top 6. For example, Gaber - Schmaltz- Caulfield was a line we saw a lot last year. I’d like to see something different.

I also am in the minority opinion that I’d like them to split up the Hain-Jammer-Senden line. They can always go back to it later, but I think we should experiment early on and see if something else works better and potentially put together a stronger 4th line that could produce more than they have recently.

    just my opinion though!

This is always a fun game and interesting to see how it actually shakes out

    Gaber-Schmaltz-Blake

    Kunz-Costantini-Caulfield

    Hain-Jammer-Senden

James-Mclaughlin-Portz  (James and mclaughlin will soon be high on the depth chart IMHO)

    Albrecht-Ness-Strinden

                  Montgomery

    Kleven-Frisch

    Moore-Farmer

    Jandric-Johnson

    Bast-Sidorski

    DeRidder

    Hellsten

    Johnson

I really want to see Costantini in the top-6 on a regular basis after the freshman year he had but I also see 3 of the 4 incoming freshman forwards making offensive impacts (much needed after losing Sanderson and Ford) by Christmas. We have some great depth forwards and should have a solid group of backcheckers. With our D corp and goaltending I see us as a hard team to score against.

We may have one of the best top-8 D corp in the country. I think Denver and St cloud are solid there as well but we have a group of guys with a lot of experience at the NCAA level

Yeah I hope we don’t see these lines.

Curious with Schlossman giving updates on other UND recruits in the USHL that is positive, why he doesn't give and update on something that isn't positive like this Singleton news.

Someone tweeted him about it and he replied that he’s likely headed BCHL, but since we don’t yet know where exactly he is headed there’s not much to report on just yet.

    Wonder if he’ll lose scholarship?

Well I hope we don’t go that route yet. I’d hate to give up on the kid too soon.

He’s 18, tried to challenge himself by trying to go to a better league and it didn’t work out. I’d like to see how the season plays out in the BCHL if that’s where he ends up.

I try to never pick us for the league title, but lets break down who Denver lost.  Brink (57 points), Savoie (45 points), Guttman (45 points), Stapely (43 points), Wright (34 points), Barrow (21 Points).

My wife will tell you I'm not a smart individual, but that is replacing 245 points, roughly half of their scoring last season, and six of their top ten scorers.  And I didn't look further down the list for other lower point departures, so they likely lost over half their scoring.  Their D-core is salty, Chrona is the man, but he stands in one place and can only prevent teams from scoring.

UND lost Sanderson, Ford, and Calder.  They accounted for 75 total points, which is about 23 percent of the scoring.  I think we got at least an even swap in the goaltending department with DeRidder replacing Driscoll.  You can't replace a Sanderson, but the core leadership is still very much there with Senden, Hain, Frisch, etc, and I'm not sure I would trade our D-Core for another in the country at the moment.

Call me crazy, or only seeing through my green tinted glasses, but I believe UND will finish higher in the standings than the Pioneers this year.

I also looked at Denver’s returning players and I think they seem top heavy up front. They return 3 players who scored more than 19 points last season. But everyone else back from last season didn’t seem to produce a ton. They’ll definitely need production from their new players or they might have some issues. Their d-core has a lot of returners though, so I’m thinking that’s where their strength will be.

But in general I think UND is a deeper team, at least on paper.

What I would consider the biggest unknown current recruit David Klee (May '05) is on the Waterloo opening day roster. He is the 2nd youngest player on the roster, with defensive recruit Keith McInnis being the youngest. Klee is going to be an interesting one to watch. He's listed at 6'3".

    USHL season starts tomorrow.

I am also interested to see how he does. I feel like a lot of our forward commits are on the smaller side, and it seems he brings something different.

Cole Eiserman choosing the Goohers stings

If it makes you feel better the scheduling agreement with the Gophers ends after next season and there’s apparently not a new scheduling agreement in place once that ends, so we might never see him while he’s there.

Hensler doesn't turn 16 until next month; it's possible he is a sophomore and can't commit until next August.

This is correct - he’s a young one. There was discussion on him back in August on Twitter and it was mentioned he can’t commit for another year.

Wonder if the NCHC poll will follow suit with this poll.  That should be out soon (Came out Sep 15th last year). If that's true, the top hald would look oike this.  Seems pretty accurate.  We shall see

    1.  DU

    2.  UND

    3.  UMD

    4.  St Cloud

    5.  Western Michigan

I feel like conference polls tend to differ at times significantly from national preseason polls because the voters for conference polls know more about the teams they are voting on. So nothing would shock me.

    Forward lines today at practice:

    Costantini - Schmaltz - Blake
    James - McLaughlin - Gaber
    Caulfield - Jammer - Sendo
    Hain - Strinden - Portz
    Albrecht - Kunz

These are 100% different than the lines yesterday, so don't look too hard into these. Fun to see some ideas, though. LOVE the 2nd and third line.

Was also told to that apparently Hain tested off the charts with all the Iron Man stuff. Great to hear that.

That second line is one I dreamed up in my head this summer that I felt like Berry would never go for

Fair point, Sic. We'll see. With that said, I am supremely confident of the D in front of him. I am expecting DeRidder to be a very, very good addition.

It’s very simple. If we provide our goaltender with more goal support then we won’t need to nitpick the goaltending as much :D

    *by “we” I mean UND*

I mean, when the most recent example of us doing this many letters was 2016, I am willing to give it a shot.

We had this many letters last year. And the year before that. And probably a few other years besides 2016, who I believe had more.

So I don’t know why people keep bringing this up as if it’s a new thing.
