At lot can change in a year but it looks like we may only have one or two forward spots open to freshmen a year from now. I would love for Dayne Beuker to join Williams and McKamey as blue chip commits for 26/27.

A BCHL guy told me he doesn’t think McKamey is going to be ready for college in 2026. We will have to see how he develops in the WHL this year though.

Martone and McQueen are the only realistic hopes right now for UND. Friedman said Cootes is back to junior, we know Bear is going back to junior. Martin will sign his ELC soon, Nesbitt isn't interested in the NCAA at current time.

The QMJHLers are going to be back in the Q or if they go NCAA, it will be a Hockey East school (one of Boston University or Boston College).

McQueen is good buddies with Zakreski. Should definitely reach out to gauge interest if we have not already done so.

Didn't they have about 14 new players?

I know they had a lot of turnover- I think they replaced their top line for the third year (?) in a row and generally one would think at some point that wouldn’t always work but so far they’ve been able to make it work.

School credits needing to be completed plus the Achilles injury meaning he'll miss 1/4-1/2 of the season

It doesn’t seem like he’s going to miss that much of the season. He’s already skating. Read an article where he says he’s at 80 percent.

Schloss-whiff, the opposite of a Schloss-bomb. Looks like Sanderson just barely made the Sept 15th cutoff.

I definitely thought he wasn’t draft eligible until next year lol.

Bukala is a good one up there, he's underestimating how big of the transition it'll be for Reschny. I think Reschny is a 2 year NCAA player at UND, unless he puts up 50+ points as a freshman

Agreed. I just think very few guys are able to leave the NCAA after 1 year and be successful. Outside of the obvious guys. It’s not happening as much as it used to. A lot more 2 year guys. Reschny would have to have a pretty outstanding season to justify 1 year in the NCAA.

From the DM conversations I've had with Schloss, he knows more than he gives on about certain problems and as we've mentioned before, he has to toe the line to avoid losing scoops or even worse, getting canned.

Back to the McKenna discussion, I do wonder if programs not mentioned like Boston University and Boston College put out serious NIL offers for him.

Does everyone want the problems within the program just out there for public knowledge? I don’t think I do. So I understand why some things are not made public. If recruiting was already in a not great spot, I don’t think a report in the GF Herald on all the issues with the program would have helped, and that could have taken a lot of work to come back from. Others may have a different view on this.

I believe we are in the mix on him. I think he’s the guy that Schloss talked about in his recent pod.

If you don’t listen to the pod, Schloss stated that a 2008 born player told his agent that UND is where he wanted to go to school. Carels fits the birth year stated and is in Western Canada. He also follows UND on instagram, for what it’s worth.

Even though it’s early, I do think UND is heavily in the mix with DuPont. Schloss has name dropped him a couple of times recently and he doesn’t really do that if there is not any traction.

He’s been following UND on Instagram for a while, he came across my radar several months ago so I checked back then. Chyzyk also follows him on instagram, which I think is also a sign.

For those who have been hoping, Brad definitely poured some cold water on the chance of McKenna even considering UND yet Denver is a possibility.

I feel like he’s been pouring cold water on this for weeks. A lot of fans just aren’t listening. One of my friends asked me a few weeks ago about our chances with McKenna and I said “ as close to 0% as there is” and the comprehension of what I said did not go through at all.

State has made a huge investment in facilities and they have a great dev head coach in Nightingale.  They are definitely formidable on the recruiting trail.  RIght now, they are probably the most formidable in the Big 10 for players not just looking for sacks of cash.

Schlossman had mentioned on a podcast a while back that a lot of our recent recruiting battles right now have been with Michigan State. We are getting recruits that picked us over them and vice versa.

Cootes seems like a great fit. If we were to get a forward from the dub, I would be ecstatic with him or Kindel. Schmidt’s size concerns me a bit but he is a good player.

I think Rickwood is our best faceoff guy so I would be surprised if we moved him to wing. I beleive he was at 57% last year. The downside of Rickwood is that he had one great year with Clarkson and that might not translate to the NCHC. Looking back at a few line charts from last year and Littler played a ton of wing and is a right shot. The staff could view him as a wing.

At this point, it might be in their best interest to target a center and juggle the lines around. Winning faceoffs with this young forward group concerns me a little bit but having more options would be ideal.

I guess based on what I saw last year I think that Littler is someone they want at center. All our other centers are freshmen and I don’t think we would roll out Rickwood and 3 freshmen centers. So if Littler is not at center they will move another non-freshman to center. Maybe Strinden? Swanson was mentioned as someone with the flexibility to play center but I just see him at wing.

They haven't recruited Illinois (more specifically, Chicago suburbs) well enough. Considering the hockey growth (in terms of minor hockey participation and NCAA player production) in Chicago Metro since the Blackhawks 3 Cups, Berry never went after those kids hard enough. Problem is that with many of them growing up in wealthy Suburbanville USA, they're not as likely to covet North Dakota because Grand Forks is small town, Upper Midwest, much more rural, relatively speaking.

The Chicago suburbs kids like Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Denver, Boston University far more because those schools are either regular Midwestern university towns and/or are in bigger cities. I think Berry once touched on the fact that North Dakota has had problems recruiting big metro, non Upper Midwest/Western Canada kids, which would be places like Boston, Chicago, New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, and to some extent, some Vancouver because Grand Forks is so so different culturally from those metros.

I think we have recruited the Chicago area terribly. We got Strathmann but that’s pretty much it. We were in on Jack Hextall last summer but he picked Michigan State over UND, despite being a UND fan. So clearly there’s issues recruiting this area. Maybe with the new staff we can remedy this.

Person over on HFBoards is saying Verhoeff is getting 200k and Reschny 80k to come to UND. Any truth to these numbers as I thought there was bunch of discussion here how the collective doesn’t have this kind of funds. If this is what they’re getting then that confirms Boisvert left for other reasons than the 💰 BU is giving him.

I believe the Reschny amount more than Verhoeff. 200K would probably be one of the highest NIL amount for a NCAA hockey player that I have seen a rumored dollar amount for and I guess I am skeptical.

    Beuker?

That's certainly possible, but it could be any of Ryan Lin, Daxon Rudolph, Shaeffer Gordon Carroll, Carson Carels, either of the Ruck Twins, Chase Harrington

Some of these guys already have interest in UND, so I would be curious if the player Schlossman is referring to is someone who didn’t previously have interest in UND, or if getting Reschny and Verhoeff would be what tipped it in UND’s favor from someone who has us on their list.

If we aren’t able to grab another blue chip F, they should be after Oasiz Weisblatt out of Medicine Hat. Heart and soul guy, captain, and seemed to have put up big numbers as an overager.

He’s not eligible- signed an AHL contract a few months ago

I think we see something like this:

    Livanavage - Wiebe
    Zmolek - Verhoeff
    Emery - Strathmann/Jubenvill/Laurila

Yes, 1st round draft pick on the 3rd pairing.  Yowzers.
Zmolek with Verhoeff to let him get up to NCHC game speed and give him freedom, which means he'll make some rookie dman mistakes and Zmolek can cover.
Going to be a battle for that 6th dman spot every weekend.  I hope that Strath/Jub/Laurila don't get discouraged having to earn their ice time and still stick with the team for the 26/27 season, because I could see Liv/Wiebe/Emery (and maybe Zmolek) all depart after this upcoming season.

Zmolek and Verhoeff are both right shot D so I think it’s unlikely they’ll be paired.

He'd have to accelerate his education to graduate in 2025 instead of 2026, seems unlikely

Unless it has already happened. Kind of like how McKamey already accelerated. I haven’t heard anything about Verhoeff accelerating though. He’s pretty young. Turns 17 this summer.

Verhoeff is one of the top end guys who you wouldn't be surprised to get drafted and then sign his ELC to forego the NCAA, but if he's interested in playing NCAA, you'd certainly want to be at the top of his list. Top 5 guy for 2026.

He’s definitely a UND target. Just started following UND on instagram.

To that point, could that be the very reason we got Will Zellers?   I know he decommitted after BU recruited another top draft pick candidate.

We got Zellers because he always wanted to play here.
