Sounds like a good recruiting win for UND. Curious if he was recruited by Mayotte at CC given his dad’s legacy as a Tiger.

I would guess they tried to recruit him but ultimately he picked UND over Minnesota and Denver. He also played at the Five Nations tournament last summer that was in Colorado Springs.

From what  read over the iasr few weeks, yes.

There was articles on the 2 Moorhead kids both saying they weren’t committing right away. Schlossman also said 10 top prospects he spoke to all said they weren’t committing right away. As soon as that news came out, everyone should have known. Until the top kids commit it’s going to be slow. A lot of schools are probably waiting on decisions from those guys and won’t move on to other options until decisions are made from them.

I think it’s good. Kids should take their time making decisions.

Pretty light day for commitments so far, for sure. Looks like only Miami from the NCHC has picked up a recruit.

As soon as Schloss said 10 top prospects said they weren’t committing today I figure it’d be a slow day and  I’d continue with my productive day of work.  :)

    I agree with that.

McMahon is stirring the pot a bit though:

Sometimes I can’t always tell when he actually knows something and just guessing lol.  His recruiting newsletter yesterday was 90 percent him guessing.

I've heard he's super quick on his skates.  Would be great to continue to progress back to the "speed kills" UND days.
I haven't been able to find anywhere that lists his narrowed down college choices.  As @ChadR asked above...I wonder if Berry can seal the deal with him and/or Hensler...those high end blue chippahs have eluded us since Sanderson.

Gopher fans already have Bump penciled into their top line for next season.  :)
His USHL stats certainly don't jump off the page, but with only 12 forwards on their roster, they need to add some players ASAP.

Potter I do not believe is considering UND, though I haven’t seen all the schools he’s considering- it’s believed BU is the favorite.

Hensler and Laurila are both accelerating so could come in as early as 2024. Hensler seems like a lock to come in 2024 to wherever he commits. Laurila likely plays a year of juniors. I think those are the only two eligible for 2024 Draft. Laurila is very very young for the draft (makes the cut-off by about 2 weeks) so he's got his work cut out of for him to move up. Will need to have a big season on the 18s. Hensler seems like a top 10 lock at this point.

Fleece and Morin both considered potential 1st round picks as well and will be 2025 prospects.

    Isn’t Hensler a 2025 draft eligible?

Right. In his podcast, Schlossman reminded the listeners that last year was VERY slow for commitments. We didn’t get our third commit until sometime in November.

Plus 2 of our known targets have already said they won’t be committing right away, and there are rumors about a third doing the same. So no one needs to hit the panic button tomorrow.  :)

I don't think we will be hearing anything on Heil as he is playing in the Hlinka Gretzky cup currently.

I wouldn’t assume that would be the reason. If he’s still undecided, probably not, but if he’s set on a school, he could commit. A couple years ago we got one committed who was playing in this tournament.

A Goofer twitter account, so who knows its accuracy.  ;)

Little to no confidence in the accuracy of this guy. I don’t think he actually has any inside information to most of what he posts. Just seems like speculating to me on most of what he says.

Also I have now seen three versions of Hensler’s top 3 and they are all different lol.

UMN will still be good for sure, but losing Knies and Cooley will be tough holes to fill.
Not to mention all their defensemen that signed.

Cooley signing aside, I don’t know why they didn’t have their roster otherwise set by now. Like were they really going to play the season with 13 forwards? (Now 12)

Newest UND Hockey Podcast is out. Part of the focus was on potential recruits to watch. When Schlossman talks recruiting, you always try to read between the lines. Does he know more than he's letting on. Recently, when Zmolek entered the portal, the amount of time they spent talking about him made you wonder. Two names were mentioned that I got the same type of feeling, made me wonder if they know something more. Caleb Heil (G) and Masun Fleece (F). Nothing else stuck out to me, except there was zero mention of Hensler.

I have suspected Caleb Heil has been a target basically since last summer. No inside info, just based on social media activity and the fact that he comes from a program we have recruited from before.

Fans on GPL are doing the same thing we are and have started talking about UND fans in their offseason forum. :)

My favorite part of this is this guy is talking about how we are reading their message board but in their recruiting thread a guy was reporting what was said here so… *shrugs*

Also why is he assuming we’re all boys? :whistling:

I cheered so hard against Gopher Dave Spehar in the day I worry I may burst into flames cheering for his son. Willing to try. :D

Who's "Frank". (I'm not keeping up on all these lists lately.)

I assume Colin Frank. I haven’t seen him mentioned too much on this board but I’ve heard some chatter on him elsewhere. From California. I believe he’s supposed to play in the USHL this season for Dubuque.

Last thing I heard was that we're in on all three of the local guys, but one is likely headed to Harvard. Can't blame a kid for that, frankly.

LJ Mooney is a target, too.

I feel like most people assume Mooney will go to Minnesota (and he may) but I get the impression it’s not a done deal at all.

Karl is coaching the U17 team that is going overseas. All 3 goalies on that team are uncommitted. 1 from Sioux Falls Power.

Yes and I’m pretty sure the one from the Sioux Falls Power has been a target.

Less than a week away, let's get some predictions. How many players that are eligible to commit August 1st does UND land over the next year (Late '06 / '07 guys)? They got 5 last year that was in that group.

Here's my guess. I think they get 7. I'm feeling a bit bullish with the Emery commit.

    • Hensler
    • Laurila
    • Lindberg
    • O'Neill
    • Spehar
    • Murphy
    • Frank

Not sure on how many yet. Gonna think about it.

Im actually wondering if we will get a goalie. With Hedquist on campus finally, probably time to start thinking about one.

Swanson made the final roster for the Hlinka cup, but Pilgrim did not:

    https://www.therinklive.com/junior-and-prospects/usa-hockey-announces-u-18-mens-select-team-roster-for-the-hlinka-gretzky-cup

Also another article on Swanson on Rink Live, talks about him building strength this offseason and playing center more next season:

    https://www.therinklive.com/junior-and-prospects/ushl/fargos-mac-swanson-ready-for-more-in-year-two-determined-to-make-team-usa-first

Pilgrim didn’t finish the camp so makes sense. In case anyone missed the incredibly sad news, his stepfather died suddenly in his sleep over the weekend.

You’d make room for both of them. Push others back.

My point was the year they’d come in we could hypothetically return all 8 D. So it wouldn’t be just about pushing others back. It’s could be about pushing others on the current roster OUT. Unless we plan to start carrying 10 D. Then it’s fine.

  19. 8 minutes ago, AJS said:

All three have visited, all three will get offers. Unless you know something, i can’t follow the logic that someone whose start date is at the earliest two years away would be looking at the current roster when deciding on the school. Or are you saying UND won’t offer any Dman from this class?

@brianvf I think they go 3-3 on the FM guys

No, I’m just saying I’m not sure if the projected depth chart is something the player would consider when weighing offers. Obviously some don’t. I’m not at all suggesting UND won’t offer them because I fully expect them to.
