This times ten (or times 21?).

Last season Strinden seemed to get overlooked a bit. Blake flashes skill with the puck, McLaughlin shows vision and edgework, James displays speed and defensive tenacity. IMO, Strinden hasn't shown a single trait that screams, Look at me! But my optimistic self thinks he's got something special that this team needs, even though I struggle to put my finget on it. Sturdiness, responsibility, smarts, and enough skill to be a winner, maybe?

I like Strinden a lot and think he should be a regular in the lineup, but to be frank I think he’s still a 4th liner on next year’s team. At least to start. Nothing wrong with that - I think we can put together a really good 4th line.  But based on how last season ended, it seems he’s behind Kunz on the depth chart.

Isn't the understanding that Komzak is that 8th guy? I would choose Strathmann first, but if the agreement is to go back, swing for the fences for the last portal addition. We're no longer in make-or-break territory but adding another high-ender with experience would really solidify things. Especially if he was a RH shot.

They said Komzak is the projected 8th D when he committed.

I think if it’s not Strathmann, I’d try to find another underclassmen in the portal to balance out the classes a bit more.

Seriously it seems like the staff is checking every box in a big way. Our 3 portals guys plus Livanavage could make for a great top 4 next year. Get them here early this summer to get some chemistry rolling. Good stuff

Guessing it’ll be Abram Wiebe in the top 4 instead of Livanavage. But I expect both to be regulars.

He had us as #4 preseason, so evidently he doesn't know as much about the team he covers as he does about other teams.  ;)

Lots of people around the country has us really high, not just UND people, so a lot of people missed.

The more I ponder it the more I think this is a "balance now / balance later" dilemma.

Balance Later: Take two more one-year portals. A year from now you have a junior, four sophs, and three freshmen. That's not very balanced but it is what it is
Balance Now: Find juniors or sophs to flatten the distribution today, but what'll you have for space in a year for (assume Strathmann and Jubenvill and McInnis).

And does Bubs get to make this decision or is it made for him (meaning who's willing to come in from where and when).

McInnis is one I wouldn’t be super confident about being here in a year. He’s hardly played any games this year, so he may need more time.  Obviously a lot can happen in a year but worth keeping an eye on.

Does anyone think there’s a possibility Brent Johnson opts to stick around? I lean towards “no” but he’s a right handed defenseman that would get more playing time than he did last year. Still probably not going to happen but just food for thought that I wanted to throw out there and see what you all thought.

I do not think there’s a chance. There’s no guarantee he would even get more playing time here next year. The guy didn’t play for months here. Bridge is effectively burned.

Anyone else find it odd that they are releasing these now? I just would have thought they would have waited until they were finished with the portal to announce them.

They used to do it within days of the commitment on each of the transfers in years past.

If they wait too long, school will be out and UND hockey media relations goes pretty MIA then.

I've never signed an NLI so I don't know the full extent of what they're signing, but generally isn't there an out with an NIL if a coach were to leave since you're really not only signing to play for a program, you're also signing to play for a coach?

From a raw athletics point of view, NIL sucks.  From a neutral point of view, NIL makes sense.  You go to college as a foundation for the start of your career.  For some, athletics will become their career, for some it's the academics, and for others it's the opportunity for both.  If a kid has an opportunity to improve that foundation, they shouldn't be locked in anywhere and should be able to make the best choice for their future.

I had always thought that coaching changes give you an out on the NLI. If there’s not a coaching change and you ask for a release, the school can restrict where you can go, but I don’t think this happens all that much.

Croal is already scoring at a decent clip for Muskegon, leading their team in overall scoring (though not on a PPG clip) and would be 20 years old by fall.  I don't see a lot of reason to leave him in the USHL another year personally.  I would rather bring in a kid like that than another portal kid.

Recently Schlossman has started saying in his articles that UND will bring in “AT LEAST 2 freshman forwards,” which kind of makes it seem like they could be considering bringing him in.

In the Albrecht article, Schloss mentioned that they would need one more definitely (Johannes) and possible one more depth add. The question was is Johannes a depth add or not? I would say not.

I don’t think Johannes was a depth add. I think he was a third line forward add.

I actually wonder what they’ll do for the depth add. Part of me thinks they should just bring in Croal. Do very many portal forwards enter to become a “depth” forward? Not sure what we will find there.

I’m actually hoping Kunz can carve out a top 6 role. He has a ton of offensive upside. Really needs to work on footspeed however.

He ended the season in the top 9, not out of the question that he could move into the top 6. He’s one I think could have an increased role and play on the power play more.

Does anyone else find it frustrating that there are only TWO freshman forwards they feel are ready to come in? Why is that an issue? Because it looks like they are going to add 3 from the portal. Also sounds like they will end up going 4 Freshman / 4 Portal on defense. 1 Freshman / 1 Portal in Goal. I really like the pipeline they have, but clearly they don't have enough. The University spends more money on their program than any other school in the country. They should not have to rely on the portal like this.

Either we are recruiting the wrong kids (some of whom were well regarded when they committed), or they are not developing at the right pace.

I'm not sure there was a spoeculation list outside of Dan Myers....and he wasn't on that one. Frankly, everyone was so shocked Knott didn't take the position that very few people have been keeping their eyes on this (presumably outside of the AD).

This is, however, about what i would expect. A guy from the USHL because that's where we have to do our recruiting.

I did see Luke Strand on another speculation list for what it’s worth.

From what I was told this week, it's HE that is considering staying one more year in the USHL. The team agrees, and both sides are saying he could come in, but he personally feels he's not ready yet.

I had wondered if this might be the case, actually. I knew he was okay with another year of juniors but wasn’t told whose idea it was.
