Sorry, my original intent was just to warn not to do it because people (students, cops, and even adults) have begun taking it more seriously and the last 3 people that have tried it have been tossed from the arena. While they may not have meant any harm, they were still tossed. Just giving a heads up.

Finally, the slogan comes out and we realize what is really important this weekend: getting wasted at Grandma's.
-
I'll gladly take pee on the leg over someone stepping on our tradition.
-
Because it is a tradition of ours. Go ahead and do it, I don't care because whoever does it will meet a messy fate and probably be booted from the arena. One less Sioux fan is A.O.K with me. I equate it to when Terrell Owens ran to the center of Dallas' stadium and spiked the ball on their big star. Don't be Terrell guys. Bulldog Hockey: Undefeated in 2004

If people see that as a challenge, then good luck to them. I hope they like eating fists. Next time I come to the Ralph, maybe I'll pee all over the Ralph statue and see how you like it.

Since you guys brought up the goal lap. ***NOTE TO SIOUX FANS: DO NOT ATTEMPT A GOAL LAP IF/WHEN UND SCORES*** You thought we were protective of it a couple years ago, you have no idea how "special" that tradition has proven to be for us. If anyone attempts a lap from the Sioux camp, a police officer will approach you to ask you not to do that in the DECC and ask you to go to your seat. Here is where the tricky part seems to be for Gopher fans: When the officer tells you to go sit down, DO NOT PUNCH HIM! You will be immediately beaten down, cuffed, and brought to St. Louis County Jail! Three people were escorted out of the arena for interfering or starting their own goal lap two weekends ago when Minnesota was in town. The one described above was a 40 year old male and did spend the night in jail and is also rumored to have ties to a certain player of the Gophers! So in conclusion... DON'T DO A GOAL LAP!

You won't hear any vulgarities from DHG or any other core PB members - we don't swear in tDECC anymore. We made the change two years ago so that we could remain standing. It was kind of a compromise between us and admin... But I did hear some Gopher fans say some of our bandwagoners threw the "F" bomb at them in the series two weeks ago. I'm beginning to really hate our new fans...

The last few years everyone has done well in Duluth but tUMD! I remember us hitting Deano in the head with hot dogs - he promptly threw them right back at us - it was great!
-
Volp made 50 saves for the cows. That stuff happens. While I won't forget that tie, I also won't forget the last 13 wins tUMD has had since thier last loss. (@ UND) Bulldog Hockey: Undefeated in 2004

Important to note that in the December losses at REA, tUMD was without senior captain Beau Geisler as he was out with a hand injury. When he was out, the Dogs were a totally different team. Isaac was also in the middle of his terrible slump - that meltdown in Grand Forks was his lowpoint. He seems to have things back in order. The Bulldogs better hope they win on Friday, because I think UND will use their size on the small ice. Back in the HOF game, I didn't think the Sioux used their size the way they could've - well that all changed in December. After watching the games at Mariucci I was very worried because the Sioux really shut down the middle and hardly any shots were taken between the circles by the Gophs. There will be even less room at the DECC, so it will be interesting to see how many chances tUMD gets close to the net. I'm not optimistic.

Anyone know the answer to this? That would be great if one of these stations picked it up.
-
Just speaking from experience.

An outsiders view.... Personally if 11,000 people were chanting "let's go sioux" during the opposing teams lineup I think that would be a heck of a lot more intimidating to the opposition. It's hard to get lots of people involved if you get your cheers too unique.
-
Wow, what a great letter. I'd be proud to have him as my AD. He addresses both sides of the issue and leaves it up to the students to get it figured out. Sioux students: it can be done. When I started at tUMD we had a very, very vulgar section. It was always f that and f this, and sh this and sh that. It was frankly embarrasing being a part of it. It didn't make it any louder in the arena. It just made locals more angry with us and actually helped them NOT to cheer. In the last 4 years we have gotten it turned around. We NEVER swear in unison anymore - if someone throws out an F bomb they are immediately escorted out of the arena. And we are actually much LOUDER than ever before. It can be done, but Mr. Thomas is right - it's all up to the students themselves if they want to change.

I had to vote for the last choice. Sorry.
-
How do you know where they are ranked, when the standings thing doesn't work?
-
Visiting teams usually stay in the downtown Radisson in Duluth. It is attached via the skywalk to the DECC. Have fun on your trips! Hockey roadtrips are the best. We are headed to Denver next week - should be great!

tUMD's atmosphere problem isn't the arena, it's the past failures of the team. People are still reluctant to go to games because of how bad the program was for the better part of the late 90's. They will come back eventually, new arena or not. However, I think a new arena would really rejuvenate the fanbase and alumni. I would guess the atmosphere would improve just because of that...
-
UND has the nicest hockey facility in the world. How could anyone not be jealous? Now atmosphere - I'm not jealous of that - the Old Ralph had 7 times the amount of atmosphere.
-
Sales tax in Duluth is already 7.5% because of the Canal Park project I believe and to promote tourism. Hopefully they don't go that route.
-
I'm not totally in agreement with your statement here. The city of Duluth is asking for the money, not tUMD. The funding is not going to come out of the University funding from my understanding, but rather general state funding. The DECC additions have been largely funded by the state, as has the aquarium, Canal Park, aerial lift bridge restoration, and many of the convention center type things in every medium sized Minnesota town. I think the fact that this is not just a hockey arena is what will get the money for the city. And I believe Ridder Arena was about half private donations, but don't have the hard numbers.

The music at tRalph allowed us to utilize our terrific dance moves this weekend. Play more Ricky Martin!
-
Ryan is great! We had fun swimming with him at the hotel this weekend. Somehow I don't think his mother would allow him to attend UND by some of the comments she made to us at dinner Saturday.

As you could probably expect, Hull is kind of an arrogant bastid. He is really bitter toward tUMD hockey now, since his buddy Norm MacIver didn't get the head job when Sandy did. Norm was one of the three finalists and Brett supposedly made repeated calls to our AD and boosters that he wanted Norm. So I don't think tUMD will see much, if any, money from him. And you know he'll be the first one to use the ice and weight room (if there is one there) once it's built in the summertime.

I've heard rumblings from the UMD players that it won't be Bubba. I don't know how much they actually know about the whole situation, so take that for what it's worth.
