  1. I know I'm going to get in trouble for this, but these people fight- and are legendary in their resilency- I would like to honor these people because they continue to persevere despite having a number of enemies near the borders of their home country. People of the Jewish descent. I think "The Fighting Jews" sounds good and are a people who have a history of being determined...going back to biblicle times. Sorry if I offended jewish people, but I think it's a good name.
  2. I guess one of the things I often forget is that unlike, in govenment, where a simple majority often can move an issue. Tribal government is one that deals with "consensus" not simple majorities, unfortunately what I feel this latest development with an opposing petition could mean is, that the tribal council could say that this means there is no consensus on the issue and thus no reason to further it. Again, I often forget that they view issues by consensus, which I don't think is to our benefit in seeing this get to a vote at Standing Rock.
  3. That is exactly what they are doing. They can avoid having meetings for 10 years if necessary...that's how they do things there. Its just the way it is. I don't deny that there isn't support but very few have gotten themselves into positions of power, and that is the way the game is played. I had just talked to a member of SR a week ago and he said by them not given us an answer, that was their answer. Don't know what that exactly means, but it's dissapointing. He went on to tell me even if they eventually get a meeting where they have a quorum, they anti-nickname folks will do everything to table it and not allow it for discussion to move forward.
  4. So just to make sure I have some idea of what's being laid out. Nebraska is the trigger- for the entire conference shake-up. If they go to the Big 10, Texas despite getting rich on unequal profit sharing will then react by going to the Pac 10, taking with it the Oklahoma Schools, Texas A&M, & Texas Tech for sure. That means the Pac10 will complete it's raid with either Baylor or Colorado. The Big 10, gaining Nebraska wants into the KC, St Louis markets and grabs Missouri. Do they then head east Syracuse, Rutgers, Pitt? & and if 1 or 2 of those schools leave the Big East? is that enough for Notre Dame to move out of being an independent for football? If Nebraska is the trigger, it is going to be a whole new world as far as BCS conferences are concerned. Actually the Mountain West would do well to gain schools like Colorado, Boise St etc... I love major college football, Don't get me wrong I love the Sioux and cheer for them dearly, but I just have a passion for Big time football and I don't know if I would like this new look. At this time I would like to extend a warm welcome to Kansas, Kansas St, Iowa St, & Baylor into the Great West Conference. I wonder if they'll accept. I think they replace nicely: Chicago St, NJIT, I would then like to re-invite: The school to the South, and SDSU- Hey this Great West is looking better already
  5. I think the blue crotch on the one, could certainly lead to a few jokes. What were these people thinking?
  6. I thought we were done, but I also think we need a more veteran big to come in as well
  7. Run for your lives, those things are frightening--their more likely to scare kids than encourage them to get involved in olympic activities. Are these from the same people who came up with tele tubies? I think the Olympics would be better off if host cities and countries would not pursue mascots, because this is what the end result is.
  8. I see some of our athletes and coaches are touring the state, and it looks like their being great ambassodors for UND. Some good videos over at Fighting Sioux dot com. I'm impressed that those who are the face of UND athletics taking a lead role by reaching out to communities that are aren't necessarily always able to experience with some of the regular activities that take place around GF.
  9. It looks like we have added our final piece for the upcoming season. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/162110 We are very guard heavy now especially when you look at the last 3 classes. I inlcude the 3 spot as a guard. You've got Webb, Anderson, & Huff coming in. Schuler in the next class, Haugen, Goodman, & Allard in rshirt sophmore class. If one to 2 of these guys can handle the ball effectively in pressure, it should help us get into our offense and it should hopefully lead to some better looks on the perimeter for everyone. It will definitely should be competitive for back court time which I hope leads to pushing one another, and that leads to improvement. Webb is a 6'3 ball handler, I do like the sound of that. I like Haugens stroke, I think it will only get better, and since I haven't seen a practice the only thing I can rely on is our radio guy, I asked him what he thought of Schuler and he said that he was impressed with the way he shot the ball. Just need to take care of it better, and hopefully this class can help with that.
  10. Those are some similar questions I had as well. But there is no doubt we were going to need someone who is going to be a primary ball handler next year. I would have liked it to be Privatsky (maybe it still will be?), but with all the injuries I'm not sure where she is at. The future is Burck, especially with her size and athleticism, but I'm hoping she is just given time to develop, and in 2 years she can develop into a new type of point guard here at UND. From the statements its sounds like they have speed, which is good, but how that translates into D1 basketball ability is anyones guess. How we got on recruiting these ladies is anyones guess but consider me surprised that we were able to get players out of Arizona for basketball.
  11. I'm assuming this was who was in town. Welcome ladies. Very interesting. I don't know what to say, it's different to me, having juco's come into the program,(I'm not sayin its good or bad...just different---definitely needed for these 2 years though), and it's a whole new area that I never expected to get players from. Here is the link to fightingsioux dot com http://www.fightingsioux.com/ViewArticle.d...TCLID=204947327
  12. This a video that is up at FS Dot com-- I guess it was put together for an awards banquet by Jody at DAZ-- Very Cool!! I think it turned out great. http://www.fightingsioux.com/newMediaPlaye...amp;DB_MENU_ID=
  13. Actually I'm of the opinion that I'm rarely, if ever, right. My whole point is whether an article has quotes from the other side or doesn't, it really doesn't bother me, as apparently it does some. I have to believe that I have at least some rudimentry ability to decipher what is going on in an article. I can derive a few concerns from some of the things listed in the previous article (the one in sundays herald) , but at the same time realize that it was only one half of the story, is all I'm saying. I'm not drinking all the kool aid, far from it, but deriving just a few particular pieces from it. --- And yes I'm quite aware that today's story had both sides, that's why I used the emoticons on my previous post. it's a little sarcasm
  14. That was a great article. boy am I mad at the herald for writing that story it's way to pro nickname, I mean everything was slanted to Mr. Fool Bear, they are always doing that.
  15. I completely agree, that nearly all and certainly most of all men's & women's basketball players are proud to be or to have been representing and considered Fighting Sioux. The point I'm trying to make is that they along with all the other sports mentioned (baseball, golf, track &field etc., fans) are often shoved to the side when it comes to being associated with the Sioux name. This video is an example of that. Don't get me wrong, I like the video, I think it was great, very well done, but I also think it goes to show that many fans, while putting together tributes, or whatever the case maybe only attach the Sioux name with hockey pics or pics at The Ralph, when in reality- everyone who plays a sport at UND or is a fan of just about any sport at UND feels proud of being or cheering on the Fighting Sioux no matter the sport. I think we do a slight disservice to those other sports when you put something together like that, as if they don't matter (and I know to some on here that is the prevailing thought anyway, but I digress). Overall great video, just artistic preference when you get down to it. I tend to think of Sioux with all our sports, the video like many, I think associate Sioux only with hockey- I apologize there was the shot of volleyball. Probably the more obvious thing is that it was a inadvertant omission, I really don't think the person who put this video together is against any of the other sports, but I could see if the first thing that a person was exposed to regarding The Fighting Sioux, was this video, they could come up with that they must not do anything else at that school. Which we don't, I know.
  16. That's an awesome video! I did notice however that there weren't any shots of basketball included, but I've always believed there are those who feel that basketball is just loaned the name and those of us who choose to support basketball, should just be happy that we get to call ourselves The Fighting Sioux as well. Otherwise- it's kind of embarrasing and downright degrading to have to associate it with the bouncy ball sport.
  17. And I thought this past year was difficult one to watch. I like the challenge of the schedule, but I don't think we have the talent to at least compete in many of these games. I hope I'm wrong. There were some youngsters that gave a person some hope last season, but they are going to have to take a huge step forward this year, and I don't know if that huge step is even possible. Anybody heard of any other players coming in?
  18. yababy should change your name to crybaby. Honestly, do you let every little article in this world effect you this much, and if so, how are you able to function? Secondly, I've been to both of those places that you mentioned, doesn't make it right either way. All I'm saying is that from what it sounds, as a nickname supporter, it would seem that we missed a opportunity somewhere along the line in making a positive impact with some of these folks in the article. Of course their are some in this world you just can't make an impact with, their jaded to begin with. But for some, we've missed it as a community, and I have missed it as an individual. It is what it is. Good grief, if the article like this illicits such a response from you it probably hits a mark that is close to home. And your figures for how many articles come out in favor of the nickname to negative, is strictly perspective. You may read something into piece that was written entirely differently than I would. The fact that your immediately dismissive of anything these people say, goes directly to point that we white NoDaks aren't really that different than anyone else when it comes to interacting with those different from us. Besides even if those in this recent article were only trying to say these things to draw your ire & nothing more, I would say they were successful. I just choose to take the story for what it is... a story, look at the way I behave when I'm around other people and go from there. You on the other hand go into attack mode. But as you said everything is above me. Let me borrow a line from Sid H. who throws it around to some of his calls. YOUR A REAL GENIUS, SIR. Gimme a break.
  19. Why exactly does a piece have to be balanced? I guess I don't understand. This was a story from these peoples perspectives, that's it. A week ago or so they had a full page of opinions on support of the name. So many in fact they felt the silly need to write why all of these letters that were published were in favor of the nickname. This story concerns me from the stand point that apparently when people who are different from us in this community indicate they get stared at rather than talked to, it's disappointing, although not surprising. Having grown up in this community for a long time, there is no doubt in my experiences that our behaviors in this community reflect some of the things unearthed in this story. I've seen it. Although I will say that it says more about those who make up this community and the issues they have than it does about the nickname. The correlation is weak at best.
  20. Ira- That was a great post- I've tried to lay it out, I wish I could have done so eloquently as you. It's so easy to rail against our administrators, as a few have really began to do on this site, when I've had a question I've found them to be incredibly accessible and very honest. I would say the reality is to direct some ire at the SBoHE, but where's the ire directed at those supporters at SR?-- Where were they 30,20,10 5, 2, years ago? There should be some accountability, but no-one dare charge anyone with that, because we need to tip toe around it so they'll continue to work at supporting the name at SR. How could anyone have been surprised that the NCAA did this a few years ago? Are people that unobservant & dense to see how things evolve and happen in todays world? That's why work on salvaging the nickname should have been done 20 years ago, it's called forward thinking. Other institutions saw this coming a long time ago, and they had their ducks in a row way better than we did. And what do we do? we act surprised, like we never saw it coming. Utterly pathetic, if we should be blaming people at all, it's those who failed to act a long time ago. The point is all this finger pointing is useless, but again there are those here would love to tear it all down, because that's what their good at...and unfortunately they take sadistic pleasure in doing it. I refuse to latch onto that, for the sake of UND and all it's sports. But I believe that SR will come out in favor of and guess what, the name and logo will remain. Boards can and do reverse their decisions. I believe that will be one of those times. This is just conjecture, but I believe the SBoHE did what it did to force the tribal councils hand before the deadline. If that was the case, and the end result is retention of the name. Would those of you come on here and start thanking SBoHE officials, I seriously doubt it. Granted even if that is a tactic it would never would get out, and we wouldn't be the wiser.
  21. FightingSioux Dot Com is reporting that 550 KFYR (which is an absolute blow torch of a signal) has agreed to carry Sioux sports. Along with AM 710 ESPN picking up games as well. KFYR is the strongest radio signal in the state, and 710 is very good as well. This is such a better arrangement now for people trying to listen in Bismarck, but the entire center portion of the state. Good news on the radio front the past 2 days, now when I'm traveling through the state for business, I will be able to catch the games for sure.
  22. Good we have a Fargo affiliate again, with a better nighttime signal for radio, with good ties to both print & television in the market as well. I never doubted it, but am surprised how quick things got put together. In the end, very good news.
  23. The trade means, that they DAY & Forum Comm will provide advertising & promotional opportunities for UND Athletics. Whether it be an print ad for Season tickets in The Forum Sports section, or a commercial spot on radio or tv alluding to tickets still available for an upcoming contest. It sounds like the visibility on Fargo Media, Newspaper, Radio, TV is going to increase & that's good to hear.
  24. Yeah, I like the scoring aspect of the game. I like scoring in life in general What's wrong with that philosophy?
  25. Somehow I knew that there would be people out here that would lay the blame on basketball. Again, basketball & hockey have both had their successful runs here at UND. I'm not even sorry that you have so much disdain for basketball, although a basketball player at some point in your life must have stole your girlfriend or wife, but if that's the way you feel fine, but it seems to be such a waste of energy to hold onto that much animosity directed at the sport of basketball. Oh well, I will still like hockey tho, is that ok? or is that not ok considering I like basketball too?
