  1. This game is a great benchmark for us. Game is at home, which seems to be a slight advantage for us. Longwood is a D1 team much like us size-wise. They score 75.9 ppg and allow 85.7 ppg. Both are significantly more than our 59.4 scored and 65.4 given up. Being a 6-13 independent team this is a game that is winnable and that I personally need to see the Sioux beat to prove that Coach Jones is making progress. We are playing a better offensive scheme this year and have better players (attributable to Huff, Webb, & Anderson). However I'm not convinced that there is any other improvement other than that. Ken Pomeroy RPI (the most statistically complete RPI system on the internet - much like sabermetrics for baseball) has UND winning this game by 4 pts. I sure hope that will be the case. http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=North%20Dakota I personally think we need to put up 70+ pts against a team that gives up an average of 85+ per game. To do that we need to get out and run and shoot better than the 28% we put up against a big and physical Nebraska squad. GO SIOUX
  2. Let's be honest, What we realistically need is a quality big man. However, what I think we need that we can get is someone who is like 6'9 and strong and can jump. Someone who can hit midrange shots and but mostly can get rebounds -While being just enough of a threat to draw defenders down to kick out to our shooters.
  3. But, if we can establish one of these "power sports" and add that to the unprecedented publicity and revenue we get from MHockey I think UND's Athletic Department could be great. NDSU always talks about their superior power sports (MBball and Footbal), so just imagine if we can get one or both of those sports in order to couple with Mens Hockey !?
  4. I find it kind of obscure that Nebraska is 10-2 and 9-0 at home. That seems like so many home games. Regardless I would like to see us keep this close. I hope Brekke can keep his hot hand and give us a paint presence, and Huff, Mitchell, and Co. came get the 3-ball going again. If we can do those things I think we can keep this respectable.
  5. I'm trying to figure out our scholarship situation for next year as of right now. I am presuming that both Benton and Gentry will both be here on scholarship next season. Given that we only have 2 seniors on the roster I'm assuming those are our only 2 recruits we will get this season? If that, then am I correct to assume that we will have 2 scholarships to recruit/fill next season as well with Mitchell and Mathison graduating? Do you think that Jones would pull scholarships off of kids (won't name who i think he should) that have done little to nothing so far in order to get bigger and more athletic before we hit the Big Sky?
  6. To reiterate our point. Please see our rebounding average and ranking: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/155/north-dakota-fighting-sioux Self Explanatory
  7. Our 3 Freshman look great! But Yes work to do for sure. 1. Huff is great. Long athletic and can SCORE! Needs some work on D but should be starting over Spencer Goodman no doubt. 2. We have no post presence. Bunch of stiff-steve's that barely see the floor. We will get outrebounded every game starting 5 G/F. Jones needs to figure this out. 3. Sac St. game will be a real benchmark to see what we can expect from this team going forward.
  8. Well that was ugly...kind of. We clearly have a ways to go but I think our three freshman Webb, Anderson, and Huff are a beacon of hope. These are three great young players who are contributing right away.Give these 3 more games together let alone a season or 2 and I think they could be truly special together. Obviously have to discuss Huff in particular. The kid looks like he's going to be a stud. Needs to figure things out on D a little but he is long, athletic, and can score! There is no doubt in my mind that he absolutely needs to start over Spencer Goodman going forward. Our largest glaring weakness is down low. WE DON'T HAVE A CENTER!! I mean we have a few on the roster but they seem to be a bunch of stiff-steve's. We will have trouble with a lot of teams if we are going to start 5 G/F and hope that the 3-ball is on. Granted if Huff & Mitchell are hot we could sneak up on teams but you don't want to rely on that. We need a presence down low; someone who can get rebounds and kick out to our talented perimeter players. This Friday against Big Sky Conf member Sacramento State at home will be a much better benchmark for the Sioux this year. Then we can see what this team is truly going to be capable of this year! GO SIOUX
  9. We couldn't rebound against something called Waldorf College so don't get your hopes up. If we would win this game we need the D to step up big time, Mitchell and Huff to absolutely go off, and then some luck. Regardless of the odds, Go SIOUX! This will be an interesting benchmark to see where we are compared to last year's abortion.
  10. So I am so curious. Is Josh Murray going to be playing for the Sioux this season? I've heard a few things: 1) I've heard NO he's ineligible (must be a common problem with those star RBs) 2) Yes he is ineligible right now but should be eligible to play by the time next semester rolls around. So what's true? Next season sure would be a lot better with him in the mix...
  11. So I am a little confused here. I have heard that Josh Murray is academically ineligible for this season. Is this true or not?
  12. I was just looking at the WIKI page for our schedule next year and correct me if i'm wrong but i was under the impression that potatobowl weekend was going to be UND vs. Idaho St. in the alerus? Also i have heard from a friend in Fargo and UND and NDSU are engaging in serious talks about a potential September 12th football game now that we will be a counter. Exciting but I'm not getting my hopes up....
  13. How did we score the first touchdown? I missed it i was at wilkerson getting to-go.
  14. One key I look for in tonight's game is our passrush. I really feel like our pass rush can make or break this game for us defensively because we can't give them time to find Eddie Thompson open. I think if they have enough time he'll get open against us. I haven't been very impressed with our passrush thus far (only 3 sacks against D3 competition) and I really think we need them to step up to win.
  15. I've seen Tru around in class and at wilkerson so i dont know what happened there. What about the Raphael Reynolds thing? What happened to him?
  16. - first off make sure you all watch the game on thursday and cheer on UND as we take on our first FCS opponent of the year. - also can we please stop whining about this year's schedule? Everybody knows it sucks but it's going to get better. NDSU's first year schedule was poor too and look where they are now. We need to keep supporting the team and look towards the future! We have some very exciting road games this year and I think next year's home games will be much better (plus Texas Tech on the road!) - What ever happened to Raphael Reynolds? - Ismael Bamba might be the big-play spark that we need with these tougher road contests coming up. Let's use him! - I'm really pumped for the SUU night game. I really hope we get close to a sell-out and the night games can be a mainstay! - What ever happened to FSSN? I approve of home games not being on TV because we need the attendance boost but it would be really nice if there was a guarunteed way to watch atleast a couple road games (most importantly the SIU game)
  17. I'm pretty sure that Crabtree was a true freshman last year and did not redshirt therefore he has to stay in school for 2 more years and will be playing against the Sioux (probably going for 250 yds and 4 TDs or something) Also I hope that Sioux Crew will consider offering a low-cost bus trip down there to help the sioux show good fan support on the road!
  18. I just want to concentrate on the game and the great excitement surrounding it. My question is....Who the hell is gunna cover Crabtree??!?!?!
  19. Cause we have TJ Oshie. Simple.
  20. Coach jones probably saved his job this weekend.
  21. Any word on the extent of Oshie's injury? Are we going to have Oshie or Genoway for the Mich Tech series?
  22. Aren't classes usually announced for basketball usually around April? If so does anyone know of any recruits we have coming in next year? I guess this upset win down in Vermillion has sparked my MBB enthusiasm!
  23. OK so while we wait in the balance for a pivotal 11th game i've revised what I'm expecting for next year 2009 Idaho State - HOME UC Davis - HOME USD - Home SUU - Away Cal Poly - Away SELU - Home ? UNI - Home ? Can anybody comment on what to expect in '09 or as to what the 11th game for '08 may be?
