  1. Unfortunately we will likely fall from the polls regardless of the score on Saturday. However if there is even a sliver of hope to stay in the top 25 we will have to win by more than 45+
  2. I'm the biggest Fighting SIoux moniker believer in the world but it is times like this that I wonder how much it is hurting us or setting us back in ways we dont even realize. Keeping in mind that the Big Sky is not a complete certainty pending legislation that needs to be reversed in November as well as retirement and these lawsuits being brought by Spirit Lake now, it is very possible that something like this that causes conference uncertainty would effect recruiting decisions a lot. Especially with a kid that is from the area I'm sure he is well aware of the facts and situation. If i was a coveted recruit I would look at even the slightest chance of being stuck in the Great West with no viable conference affiliations and run. I think the nickname hurts us in more ways than we know. With that said, I really hope this is not the case and I would love to see this kid in Kelly Green. Go Sioux!
  3. I'm as big of a Sioux Football fan that you will find but I am also a realist and an amateur sports better. +26.5 would be extremely low in my opinion. Yeah, Fresno hasn't won a game yet but we just lost by 30 to a team that is much inferior to Fresno State. Fresno state is coming off a game where they put up 29 pts on NEBRASKA'S Blackshirt Defense! Throw in the fact that we are on the road, and can't come close to matching their speed and I honestly think that if someone were to be willing to publish a line on this game (I have yet to see an official one) that something closer to +48.5 would not be out of reason in order to try to garner public money. -26.5 for Fresno State would be a very costly line for any sportsbook. Regardless I will be watching the game and I really hope we can see this team take a step forward this weekend, especially on offense. Need to see some coaching adjustments by Muss. GO SIOUX!
  4. I thought I would throw up a quick post in regards to Assistant Coach Phileppe heading to be an assistant coach at U. of Maine as broken earlier in the week on his twitter accounts @CoachPhileppe and @SiouxBasketball . Losing both Moody and Phileppe is a low blow for our program. You obviously cant fault a guy for trying to move up in the coaching world, as I can only assume they are either paying him more and/or he is going to be the top assistant at Maine. He was very fan friendly and from all accounts that I can tell from both fan observation and interacting with him through social media that this guy will be a good Head basketball Coach some day, especially for a school of our size. He seems like a great recruiter and his ties to Canada make him invaluable to any schools up north (i.e. UND, Maine, etc.). It seems like both him and Moody really worked well and got through to the younger players. which is key. I guess with losing a couple of quality assistants like this we will see soon how good Jones really is and how the players respond to him specifically. I wish them both the best and i will really miss having Coach Philippe around in particular bc he was always so willing to share recruiting info with me and interact with us fans. I hope that some day when/if Jones goes for any reason and UND is looking for a new HC that both Moody and Philippe would get interviews when that time comes. GO SIOUX!
  5. I asked this very question to Assistant Coach Phillippe and he told me, "We have a young man coming in on an official visit this weekend. Signing period starts on the 13th, so news coming soon." I assume if we dont know a name for this player coming in that isnt a good sign - hope I'm wrong.
  6. Also worth mentioning that with Missouri State's head coach taking the job at Tennesse NDSU's chances of landing Mashpun have skyrocketed in my opinion....
  7. I would be shocked if we even had a chance to land Mashpun though. I believe his coach misspoke when he said he was chosing between North Dakota and Missouri State. I believe he meant North Dakota state or Missouri State. I've been told that Mashpun loves that NDSU was on him very early on in the recruiting process and has grown close with some of the players there. Has attended some team functions. I would be shocked if he's not a Bison. They need a PG and he would be an ideal get for them....unfortunately
  8. Although we are most in need of an athletic 4/5 Wes Mashpun is an absolute stud and would be the highest touted recruit in school history. ESPN grades him out as an 88 and ranks him as the #60 PG in the country. He has offers from UND, NDSU USD, SDSU, and Missouri State. He is also drawing interest from Creighton, Iowa, Boston College, Clemson and Bradley... Although getting both Mashpun and a JUCO xfer 4/5 would be ideal, I dont see how you don't give this kid the last available scholly if he is willing to commit. 9. Horrible layup given up there at the end of the half. Sioux only down by 10 - if you make some adjustments anything can happen obviously. We really need to tighten up on Defense though or we will lose by more than 20. We are standing around as they pick us apart shooting 60%+ and have 16 assists already. Make the adjustments! GO SIOUX!!
  10. I'm worried about that injury to Webb. He had an ACL injury in his past. Thats part of the reason why he wasnt more highly recruited and we were able to sign him. Lets hope its not serious....
  11. Where did you get this line? Just curious. I wanna see if there is an over/under.
  12. Does anyone know what time the CIT field will be announced today?? PS- it is amazing that we went from 8 wins in a horrible conference this year to 19wins in a horrible conference. I never would have guessed we would have a host at 20wins!
  13. Here come the Fighting Karl Malone's!
  14. We are a completely different team when Brekke is in there - especially without Benter. Big Mike is playing alright off the bench but you can't tell me that it is coincidence how well we have been playing since Brekke was injected into the s tarting lineup. Both teams shooting horribly from the field thus far.
  15. FYI for everyone the game can be seen on Fox College Sports which is channel 617 on Direct TV!!
  16. Real test comes on Saturday against USD! I hope that fans come out to watch and support before the big hockey game. Kind of think that it might negatively impact attendance however.
  17. This is the definition of a trap game. Especially for a young team.
  18. ESPN has updated their recruiting database and Benton has been added to our 2011 commits. What really surprised me was that ESPN has him rated as a 2star 82 compared to Gentry's 1star 77 -- to add perspective Aaron Anderson was a 79 and Huff was rated an 83. I had a bit of an impression that Gentry was our better get but maybe not? If Benton is truly coming in off scholly next year then picking one up his Soph year this could be quite the steal! Hope we can get one more solid player to round out our class of 2011! http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/155/north-dakota-fighting-sioux
  19. Love the Brekke start by Jones. Good adjustment.
  20. Haha maybe not the best worded post ever. I should say I asked him via twitter as to if they were still actively looking to add one more player!
  21. My mistake that was before my time at UND where i only really followed the hockey team. I should not have made that assumption. I believe he does receive some money now but thank you for the clarification. Also, I asked assistant coach Phillipe if the sioux were still looking for one more recruit this season via twitter. He responded today saying: "Yeah we are. I'm actually recruiting in Minneapolis right now for the T-Wolves Shootout at Target Center..."
  22. I find it interesting that every starter on EWU's defense is from the state of WA. Just goes to show the recruiting advantage that schools from larger states have. Could you imagine UND or NDSU fielding a championship quality D1 FCS football team using nothing but ND kids?!
  23. I'm weary of players like that. Take for instance "Big Mike" Mathison on our roster right now. Kid was our big recruit out of Walhalla a few years ago and he hasn't done anything. Kid is always hurt, and doesn't do a thing when he gets in. Proves a kid can look like a "can't miss" in ND Class B but have no future in basketball at the D1 level. A good indicator, although a bit superficial, seems to be where else interest is garnered. If the NDSU, USD, SDSU, or Big Sky School's of the world have no interest should we just because he has UND ties?
  24. Anybody know anything about any of these 3 players? Any preference if we can only get 1 (which I think we only can scholly one more player), which one would you like to see us get? Also in regards to bulking up in size. I spoke earlier about my perception of the need to find an "undersized" center who is strong enough to get rebounds, can scored modestly and make shots midrange and in. Someone who is just enough of a threat to draw down defenders and kick out to our shooters. Now, the Wilmer injury is unfortunate but the more I see of Brekke the more I think he could be that for us. He has been playing very well lately and should see more minutes the rest of this season with Wilmer out.
  25. I'm very partial to Ken Pomeroy: http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=North%20Dakota Scoring 75 seems much more realistic. We don't score 88 unless we absolutely shot the lights out from 3. This is a game that Coach Jones really needs to win in my opinion.
