  1. What if it's the Blackhawks luring him away? 1st round talent on a club that isn't going anywhere in the near future looks a lot more promising than going to another school for 1/3 of what he will get at a school.
  2. That's Brad Schlossman's way of protecting Brad Berry.
  3. We have had 4 1st rounders and 2 2nd rounders in 06-07 and they didn't win. Heck, we have had a ton of 1st and 2nd rounders since 2001 and we have not won crap. Today, those players would either A) Command a lot of money through the NIL or B) They never would've stayed/came in the first place. College hockey is vastly different than college basketball or college football. Those players command a lot of NIL dough because A) Those two sports are HIGHLY marketed B) The pro ranks for those sports do not allow them to sign a deal until they are removed from HS for a certain amount of time, NHL players have signed and PLAYED in the NHL at a very young age (Auston Matthews/Connor Bedard). I believe it is you who is NAIVE in thinking that NIL will "save/elevate" our program to new heights. Yes, NIL money will help but they still need to find that right players and the right players can be found without having to dump a lot of NIL money. Look at Drake Caggiula and Troy Stetcher. Those two players were overlooked for various reason, and they were some of our biggest contributors for that national title.
  4. Fundraising and University promotion are not Berry's strengths.
  5. I keep hearing about how passionate our fanbase is and by your logic we should have a fully funded NIL collective. UND may have a passionate fanbase, but majority of our fans are not giving money to the 1883 collective.
  6. I honestly think Blake's main objective was to get to the NHL and no amount of NIL money was going to make him stay.
  7. I am not overly concerned about NIL deals and if they will make or break a hockey program.
  8. This is a terrible comparison.... Minnesota can do it because they have substantial money to be able to afford a buyout of that nature, UND isn't even on that level. Also, Ben Johnson never had a winning conference record and only had 1 .500 (or above) season. I am all for a new direction for UND hockey but at least make some sense on why and don't justify it with lame examples like this one.
  9. Are you one of those "true fans"?
  10. Better to be pissed off than pissed on.
  11. Been sent and the standard response was received.
  12. It doesn't matter if Berry leaves now or next year, players will leave. The only way we won't see a huge mass exodus is if they promote from within, and I am not sure that that is the best decision. We as fans need to be prepared and realistic in the fact that when a new coach does come onboard, the chances of us winning right away will be pretty low.
  13. I know you have seen me say this but I will say it again. We are irrelevant nationally because we lack a real leader at the top. If we had a true leader that understood what they needed to do to make us relevant, we wouldn't be having this conversation about Berry (or even Bubby when he was the Football coach).
  14. Nope, I just give credit when its due and criticism when its due (and I have done it to Schlossman too) I am not arguing for him to get a contract extension, I am just saying he will finish out his deal as its nonsense to buy him out. What's the point of paying a huge buyout when his contract is up in a year? Plus, UND already runs its athletic programs on a D2 budget.
  15. That is not lost on me either but you can't have just think about it one dimensionally, you have to give credit where its due too. Are you honestly going to sit there and say Berry is a terrible coach? No you aren't because you know he isn't one.
  16. I didn't mention it because I don't believe for a second that he would leave the HC job at UND for an assistant job in the AHL (he isn't heading to the NHL) or a scouting job, especially since he has already been there. Again, he will finish out his contract no matter how it plays out this year, after that it's a crapshoot. His legacy will not change if he falters this year or next. He will always be remembered as a coach who brought us a national title, 5 NCHC regular season titles, 4 Herb Brooks Coach of the Year, 1 Spenser Penrose Award, and over 200 wins.
  17. Berry will be back next year regardless of how the season plays out. He has enough credentials to at least finish out his contract and honestly, it makes no sense wasting money on a buyout when that money could be used elsewhere (opening the assistant pool of money for all sports). The question that we should be discussing is, what happens after next year? Unfortunately, I think Chaves will extend him. Both sides of the aisle (fire berry/keep berry) have very good points on why they do or do not want Berry around (I'm in the camp of finding a new voice). Ideally, I would like to see a new AD before any coach gets an extension.
  18. They are probably doing that because of the new apparel deal coming forth (which might bring a whole new design). They don’t even use a green nodak style jersey, why would they sell one?
  19. Looks like he is on track to return.
  20. The reason they don't have "IT" anymore isn't due to the nickname, I mean we went to a couple Frozen Fours and won a national championship without having the nickname. They don't have "it" anymore because we have become complacent and that starts from the TOP down, no one is held accountable in the Athletic Department.
  21. Having them run a Fighting Sioux jersey for a limited time isn't a bad idea for us fans but the school probably won't allow that. The school wants to move on from the nickname (no matter how hard us fans complain) but their image/brand is no longer the "Fighting Sioux". I believe one of the biggest things that holds us back still, is people/programs inability to move on from the "Fighting Sioux" nickname.
  22. Just call them the black jerseys. The business suits name is overused and has lost its luster since they can't even win with them.
  23. I didn't hear what Jammer said. Is there a video or audio of it?
  24. I'll agree that the NCHC has a poor non-conference record but in the college hockey news pairwise adjuster, the only thing that is keeping us from being higher in the pairwise is us not taking care of business against non-conference teams. So in a nutshell, Schlossman is spinning it to make the "readers" believe that that is the main reason why we are not higher in the pairwise.
  25. He is essentially blaming other teams in the NCHC for our current situation. Yes, other teams wins and losses will affect how we end up but what I am saying is, if we took care of business against the non-conference teams and everything else stayed the same, we would be in a comfortable place in the pairwise but we are not. At the end of the day, if you take care of your own business, everything will shake out in your favor no matter what happens with other teams.
