I'm not saying the portal goalies are bad, I am just asking why Berry loses faith in the ones he recruited to go out and get one from the portal? Are they not developing like they should? If we are relying on goalies from the portal (and we expect them to play lights out from the get-go), maybe our goalie coach isn't doing his job properly.

Everyone talks about how we recruit #1 draft picks, but we never really discuss goaltending. Berry has yet to trust a goalie that he has recruited. Scheel was the only goalie that got to play regularly under Berry, the rest were transfer players for 1 or 2 years. Jakob Hellsten was here but then transferred to UNH and did pretty darn well (5 SO, 2.04 GAA, .909 Save %). I mean why is this such an issue for us?

Because no one (reporter wise) in Grand Forks wants to rock the boat and hold the hockey team accountable.

This is true. In the end we all see things a little differently but ultimately want what's best for the program.

RMU is so far beneath UND in everything (hell they just brought the program last year after cutting it). Again, exhibition or not, those are games you shouldn't lose because they can set the tone for the whole year. I will agree with you that I don't believe Berry should be fired though. Like you, I am afraid of what would happen to the program going forward. Will we see instant success, or will we be bottom dwellers?

Pretty sure it was the loss on Oct 12 against Bemidji State in 2018 that kept us out of the tournament.

Yes, he has 200 wins, but you said that they consistently beat teams they should. Looking at the past records shows they haven't beaten teams they should, exhibition or not. He has lost games against non-conference opponents that have cost us a tournament bid.

exhibitions or not, those should be games that are won. I am curious though, out of the three exhibition games, which one that I listed did they win? Wasn't Augustana, Arizona State, Penn State or the US under 18 team.

Consistenly beats teams it should? Does losing to Augustana, Bemidji State, Arizona State, Penn State, US under 18 team TWICE, Canisius, Union and BARELY beating RMU ring a bell?

Understood. I just look at the teams Lucia coached, and they had guys that were 1st/2nd rounders that left early due to their development at the UofM.

Chaves is screwed no matter what he does. He can't afford to keep Berry but yet he can't fire (not renew him) Berry either. If he fires or lets him walk and Berry goes to a new school and just kills it, you know that will come back to bite him in the butt

How quickly we support this guy who not only a week ago was getting ran through the mud because he "hasn't done anything". I for one thought he was HC material but not at the moment. Hockey is the “premier sport” on campus and can’t figure it out because of “tradition”. I hope football doesn’t make that same mistake twice.
