What I am about to say isn't about former Sioux players but has anyone noticed how many goalies there are in the playoffs that played college hockey? Cory Schneider played very well in replacement for Luongo. Brian Elliot came out of no where this year and helped turn around the Blues. Jimmy Howard played pretty good for an aging Red Wings team. Jonathan Quick should win the Vezina this year. You have Tim Thomas he has led his team to a Stanley Cup already and his backup is a former college goaltender who won TWO NCAA championships. All in all I think College Hockey is being represented very well in the Stanley Cup Playoffs!

I agree! This contract was probably in the works for awhile and Faison wanted to wait until things started to settle down. I'm not a huge fan of Faison but even he isn't dumb enough to let Hak go!

The Varmits didnt work out because Kraft Field is a crappy field when it comes to Independent Baseball and the Channel Cats were a wood bat college summer league in the Northwoods league. Using those to as examples as why "pro" sports would not work in Grand Forks is not a good way to make your point. An ECHL team could possible work in Grand Forks, we have the arena (just have to share the arena) and the fan base is here and also 100 miles North and South. The biggest problem I see happening is, people getting burnt out on watching a lot of hockey. That would be my biggest concern.

I don't see this as a program to develop just "local" talent. I can see this program being a mixture of the BEST local kids and the best kids from Northern MN, with a few spread out across the country but the most would come from the 701 and 218 area codes.

Miles has committed to UND.
-
I think so too! Instead of having kids from the area leave for "better" competition, they can stay around here and finish school.

This team will be compared to teams like Shattuck St. Mary's and Little Caesars (I believe Matt Greene played here).

Hakstol was just named INCH's Coach of the year!
-
I'm pretty sure he would love to be a head coach somewhere but I believe for him to leave to become a head coach he will have to make more than he makes at UND. I just don't think Mankato or a USHL team would be able to do that.

To use the loophole, I believe they have 30 days after they withdraw from school. I could be wrong though

That is probably why he signed so early (at least 3 years of school paid for). I think he signed early because he wasn't going anywhere. He didn't make the cut for the Under 17 team and no other JR teams were calling and he knew if he stayed in Crookston (nothing against the program, just not that good) he probably wouldn't get any better, so he took the only available option. I'm not saying he made the right or wrong choice, him and his parents just made a choice he thought was best for him. I hope he does well and everything works out for him.

You are not slamming the door shut on college, he can still go to college if hockey does not pan out for him (as his WHL team will pay for college for each year he is with the team). It's not like he committed to a college and then turned his back on his commitment at the last second.
-
What would he have to clear? It's pretty easy to withdraw from school.

I was being sarcastic. The Wild always seem to tell everyone they have a buttload of talent in the AHL or elsewhere but how come when they do make it to the NHL the Wild still suck?
-
the Wild are loaded with prospects?

I know this is a beaten topic but I think these jerseys would look sharp if they had green helmets and green breezers!

Using Bochenski as proving point for your argument does not help. Bochenski has been a 1 DIMENSIONAL player his whole life, he will not play defense if his life depends on it, that is why he has been up and down his whole life (now he is in the KHL). With that being said I think Brock made the best decision that benefitted him the most. No one knows how well a player is going to develop if he stays at UND for one year or all four years. All we can do is wish Brock well and thank him for the time he was here.

They could sell me the one they currently have on display right now

I just finished out my collection today! Now to work on getting a green and white authentic NIKE!

Zucker has signed with the MN Wild.

Spencer Penrose Award (Coach of the Year) Finalists Announced
siouxkid12 replied to GFG's topic in Men's Hockey
Not going to argue with that list but it is kind of interesting that Hak did not make it. He took a young, injury filled roster (not even a full one at that) to the regional semis and lost to a good team. -
I have heard that the Wild are not only interested in Parise but also Drew Stafford. Don't know how much of that is true but it would be nice to see them on the same line again!

Well, we all know Tate Maris probably wont be seeing any ice time but to go out and say that Gothberg will take over for Dell is a little ridicolus. The starting goaltending job is going to be Dell's to lose.

Minnesota has their jerseys made by Nike, I thought Nike got out of the hockey game?

I believe he has been playing intermural hockey all year.
