So, since 1998, you'd choose Michigan's success over UND's??  Just trying to see where you're coming from here.

Here is your quote "Historically, stack UND up against literally any other college hockey program, no matter which metric you pick, UND will likely be better". Stop moving the goal post to fit whatever you want it to fit. If we are talking recently, then I'd say Denver and Duluth but HISTORICALLY (like you stated) Michigan and Denver are slightly above us.

Because they have more natties?  How would you like a title drought of 35 years (Denver) or 32 years (Michigan)? Not exactly the gold standard of consistency.

They might not have won one recently but they have been pretty darn consistent. You're also going to say that Denver isn't consistent? they've won 4 titles in the past 20 years (and have the potential to add a 5th).

Michigan hasn't won an NCAA title since 1998. But Denver is a textbook example of what we used to represent and no longer do.

Michigan may not have won an NCAA title but they have been pretty damn consistent since winning theirs.

Nick Saban wouldn't have his job for long if the Crimson Tide started settling for "winning seasons".

not with the amount of money that coaches are being paid. UND isn't paying Berry to just have a "winning season" and produce Olympic Athletes and NHL players.

Basically everyone wants it all - winning seasons, home playoff games, conference championships, national championships.  Every year.  While on paper it seems all that should be achievable perpetually, reality doesn't work like paper.  That's what makes sports fun - play the game and see what happens.  Historically, stack UND up against literally any other college hockey program, no matter which metric you pick, UND will likely be better.

Michigan, Denver are two programs that are better than us.

The truth is, I'm actually in the camp where I don't feel this program is in as bad of a place as some. Recruiting has been solid and the pipeline looks good. As for the shot. My frustration has been with the media has been with what I call the spin. You'll never see any push back or criticism. Never any tough questions. It's so weak. On the flip side the little bit of criticism we saw from the TV crew, we saw the reaction, so maybe I understand why you don't see it.

I'm going to excuse myself from this conversation. I'm very excited for Friday night and going to keep it positive as I would love nothing more than this team to go on a run that wipes out the negativity this year has caused. It can still happen!

I would agree with you on the media. Brad and company never push the buttons like they should, its just status quo all the time. When Tim, Jake or Alex start criticizing (just a little bit) the "real fans" lose their mind.
What I do not agree with you is in the shape of the program. Last few years we have been relying on transfer players and we have not had a legit goalie to help us and it doesn't look like we will for a little bit either.

we are 10-10-4 in conference play, let not get too excited with having a "winning season". You think blue chip programs in other sports are happy with having just a "winning season"

    Pretty pointed accusation.
Have the facts to back that up?

I DO NOT believe it was just a coincidence that the person who trademarked the name "nodak" was his daughter. I would think Brad had more knowledge than most people believe.

Such a joke that Alaska-Fairbanks with their lack luster schedule is rated like 12th in the PW well ahead of UND. Believe half their wins easily have been vs teams ranked 35 -60 in the PW.  Guessing NCAA brass is in on that. Lost a bit of confidence in PW calculation process/objectivity.

Alaska is currently 15th in the PW and with them being an independent team, it's highly unlikely they make the tournament, especially with a few upsets going on.
A good way to not worry about the PW is to just win your games and leave no doubt.

    Sandy or herter

sandy just gets it done when he makes the tourney

Also, its okay to go outside the UND family. Turned out pretty good last time we went outside the UND Family.

well it took him a long time to "get it done" in the tournament so I doubt you and the rest of the GOBC would've allowed him to stay as long as he did.

Would UND fans be so wishy washy on Berry if they had made the Frozen Four in the tourney that got cancelled? Wasn't UND primed to make a run?

Wouldn't know because it didn't happen. What we do know is he hasn't done anything in the National Tournament since 2016 and thats all we can go off of.

Apparently I was in an ornery mood when I read the thread earlier and saw something that wasn't there. My bad. In my defense, this is the "Time to Boo Berry?" thread.

After I posted it I said “sh>^, wrong thread”

i am unsure how it gets transferred elsewhere too…

The quotes seem to suggest a parallel between Tony Granato and Brad Berry.

    • Granato at UW, 7 seasons: 105-129-16 (.452), 1 regular season championship, 0 NCAA tournament wins
    • Berry at UND: 8 seasons, 178-90-31 (.647), 4 regular season championships, 5 NCAA tournament wins, 1 NCAA championship

    I'm not seeing the parallel.

Berry may or may not be the right guy to lead UND hockey, but the anti-Berry crowd will need to do better than comparing him to Tony Granato.

Never was comparing him to Berry. As a matter of fact, I've never been one to say that Berry should be released.

Midco is broadcasting it on midco. Alex and Jake are calling the game. If you stream on NCHC TV you will get the Omaha feed though. There’s an article on the GF Herald about it.

Wow, I wonder how they finagled that one? That is usually never the case.

Overheard at the Ralph, from folks who seem to have some form of knowledge of the family, was that Tyler has been pushing his studies each semester and over summer, to be able to possibly wrap up his degree early.  Who knows how true that is or if he'll accomplish it, but that might play a role in his decision.  It sure sounded like the general idea was to move on after this season, but ya never know how things can change.  And it's possible that my general eavesdropping was misinterpreted as well :D

Don’t need to over hear anyone at the Ralph to figure out he’s gone. If you (not saying you directly) have any hockey knowledge you’d understand that his style of play is no longer welcome in the college ranks.

  17. Are we looking for one great goalie and mediocre ones to fill out the rest of the roster? Are our goalies just not fighting each other in practice? I remember the days of lammy/ parise, dell/ eidsness, Saunders/McIntyre, McIntyre/ johnson. Hell I remember when Brandt went ballistic on blais when he tried sitting him for a game (I think it was Duluth). I just feel like our current goalies are like those guys.

Agree with your assessment - however, taking a step back to look at our program, what does it say for our recruiting when for the third year in a row we will be depending on a portal goalie?  To me this is just a stunning turn of events - Third year in a row which doesn't make this a one time problem but a long term problem.  I don't know what's going on with recruiting but this should have been addressed long ago.  Staff needs to get it together.

You are correct. We used to have some of the best goalies in the nation and at times they were here together. How did we drop off so fast?

Are you the guy in the GOD FORKSAKEN Facebook group that claimed he was going to Berry's office to ask him in person to step down after we got swept by DU? LOL ;)

I must have missed that claim but I don't follow it too much as that group is terrible...I'm all for being positive but when s&*T isn't going correctly its okay to call them out and god forbid you do it in that group.

She gets to stay on as an “advisor” to the program…not exactly sure what that entails but it probably pays.  Gofer womens hoops team has been BAD for a while; guessing B-Rad has a little more slack at this point.  That seat on the bench may get a little warm if Sioux start out slowly next season, though.

Staying on as an advisor entails that there isn't a riot for firing a god that came from the program. Obviously Brad has more slack than Whalen but getting rid of a "family member" can be done when the program isn't up to par.
