  1. I don't always agree with their selections either, but I hardly put much stock in them, especially considering last year's hobey winner didn't show up on a list when he was a freshman. Of course we would lean toward Sioux players, knowing how they will be brought along by the coaches. I think Trupp will be an omission that might not look good at the end of the year, but I challenge anyone complaining to post a list on here and then see how they did at the end of the year. Like I said, it is fun to open up debate, but I hardly put much stock in it, just like they wouldn't put much stock in a list I would create, because outside of many of the WCHA players, I wouldn't be able to make informative picks.

Thats the thing with new players coming in...you cant assume that they will be great players, it dont matter where they go. Yes, I am a huge sioux fan but you dont know how well the kid is going to respond to the college game. The way I see it is the less hype the player receives the better off he is because he has something to prove and will want to show everyone what kind of skills he has. Trupp had surgery on his shoulder last year so who knows how good he is going to be, shoulder injurys are really hard to come back from, just ask Forney.

  2. INCH totally embarassed themselves this year other than their number one team pick. Who wouldn't take the Gophers incoming let alone UNDs over a bunch of their higher ranked selections.

    Lowlites of their selections:

Lapointe only the number 15 D-man

Completely overlooked Trupp in both the team and forward ranking.

    http://www.insidecollegehockey.com/INCH.htm

How is that embarassing themselves? It is their own opinion what they want to rank players, obviously they do this for a job (watching players progess and ranking them). It's just like me saying that you are embarassing yourself when you speak your opinion. Just because Lapointe is a 15th ranked D-Man does not mean he is horrible by any means, it just means that the guys ahead of him are probably better than him, remember he is only a year removed from High School its not like he is going to tear everything up in college hockey. On PAPER that is probably the correct order, with the exception of a few players (P. White and T. Johnson). The players that come straight out of HS competition shouldnt even be ranked in the Top 20 because the skill level isnt even close to that of the US NTDP or Jr teams.

  3. I was at the game also! I gotta problem with them Taco-n-a-bag things...

We sat pretty hign up so it was nice to see a different view, during the WCHA season were 10 rows up behind the visitors goal in the 1st/3rd period...

It's impossible to compare the excitement level of a NHL Preseason game and Sioux game...I'd say 80%+ of the people there for the Wild game were just there for something to do, whereas, you have to fight to get Sioux Tix...

I was a teaser game for me, and I can't wait...Plus we had been Duck Hunting all weekend and started to fall asleep in the 3rd QTR...

    How many Day's Till...

I didnt know hockey went by QTR's now! ;)

  4. Don't blame me just because you are too busy stalking hockey players, football players, basketball players, baseball players, volleyball players, golfers, and swimmers to understand the reference.

I am suprised that Leah has not been arrested yet for her stalkish ways!

  5. I will be attending the NHL exhibition game tomorrow night at the Ralph. Does anyone know if there will be any autograph sessions/opportunities while the NHLers are in town?

The wife is a HUGE Stafford fan and I know she'd love to have her Stafford Sabres Jersey autographed. She has taken a fondness to the Sabres since Staffords arrival. She has a few Wild players she likes too, specifically prospect Benoit Pouliot.

Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanx!

I know some Front office wild staff and the Wild arnt getting into GF tell 330 today and then they are packing up right after the game and they are leaving for the next destination, so I doubt there will be any autographs.

  6. Souixkid,

I understand things perfectly. You are the one who said the Gophers have ALL the advantages and when I asked what they are you came up with one- the media. Alot of schools have advantages over other schools when it comes to recruiting. A recruit may like a big city, small city, large campus, small campus, NHL size ice, Olympic size, etc. You make it sound like the Gophers have every advantage that other schools donot have which is not true.

    hockey1,

So you know what recruits want, why arnt you a college coach if you know so much? the quote was meant as a joke and you read into it waaaaaay too much. Just go back to your gopher message board.

  7. and if the final 5 was in sconie it would be home ice or colorado would be home ice for those teams and so on. its perfect where it is, tons of fun and the best hockey tourney there is including the frozen 4! sure its a advatntage but big deal, the sioux and others dont get fazed by it.

I know no one really gets fazed by it and I never really thought I would have to explain what I said in such grave detail but i guess hockey1 (who might be a gopher fan) just doesnt understand certain things.

  8. Siouxkid,

Could you explain what are ALL these advantages the Gopher hockey program has over other schools?

Since I worked for a professional sports team in St. Paul this summer I know how the media works to teams advantages. With MPLS/STP being the 14th LARGEST media market in the country it helps every college/professional sports team in the area. If you get out of the North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota area you will come to find that people know more about the Gophers than they do of the Sioux. It's plain and simple...having the media in your corner is a HUGE difference. Yes, the Sioux are fortunate enough to still be one of the top college hockey teams year after year but its not because we have media coverage or because of an arena and if anyone wants to say its because of our arena its bull$%!# because we have not won anything with this arena and the talent that comes with it, i am not saying our arena isnt a major recruiting tool but realistically an arena does not make the team (espically when the people who run the arena want to run it like a church). Also you don't think the Xcel is a major home ice advantage for the Gophers? you have to be out of your mind...yes it maybe considered a "neutral" site but we all know it's like a home game for them...even the broadcasters say its like a home game for them.

  9. I had mixed feelings about that game. I thought it was good in a way only because it would give the Sioux a much easier opponent in the 2nd game assuming that they win the first game. However, I was thinking that if Michigan should happen to beat the Sioux that would knock my two favorite teams out of the tournament both on the first day. Yes, believe it or not, the Gophers are my 2nd favorite team in college hockey. In addition to that, I'm very much pro-WCHA. I will always cheer for WCHA teams over non-WCHA teams.

I am very pro-WCHA too but its always fun to see your biggest enemy lose to the lowest seed. When your biggest enemy in sports loses, the first thing that comes to your mind is not "oh s&!t even if we go undefeated the SOS is now against us" NO, as a fan the first thing you say is "F&*K ya they lost to the worst team in the country!" and you continue to rub it in until someone else loses. Second you can't be a Sioux fan and like the Gophers, thats just not right. You are either a full blooded SIOUX fan or you are just a college hockey fan in general and you dont take favorites!

"The Minnesota Gophers are the New York Yankees of NCAA hockey. They get all the advantages, but continue to fail to meet expectations." That sums up the Gophers hockey program every year!

  10. I highly doubt that if you were an OSU fan you would be thinking "Oh crap, this just killed the Big 10 strength of schedule". This may hurt OSU but its a big "MAY". OSU can still go undefeated and still make the BCS because they are that good of a team. My point is a Michigan loss isnt going to affect the way OSU fan's will cheer, I am willing to bet that any OSU fan would rather see their biggest rival lose to a D-1AA school and still have a 99.9% chance of making the BCS game. Also I bet that you were cheering for Holy Cross when they beat the UofM.

Are you serious? Do you think that I said OSU fans buying an App. State shirt is going to keep OSU out of the BCS? I get the feeling people are intentionally being difficult because they're mad at me for my anti-fighting rant in a previous thread. If so, how mature.

I said that the fact App. State beat Michigan could potentially keep OSU out of the BCS based on the Big 10 strength of schedule being brought down. Therefore, in buying those shirts OSU fans are celebrating something that could actually hurt their own team.

If I was an OSU fan I would be thinking "Oh crap, this just killed the Big 10 strength of schedule". Yeah, OSU and Michigan are bitter rivals. I get that, but I think they're letting common sense go out the window to be happy about this particular Michigan loss.

  11. First off, Wheeler's sliding into Tormey, Sioux fan or not, wasn't a running of the goaltender. It was a viciously bad skate-related injury to Tormey, yes. However, this wasn't Wheeler's fault entirely.

Secondly, if Boogaard isn't on the ice to start a fight, what good is he? He can't score at all. He's not a setup guy or playmaker in the slightest. If he's that defensively sound, then make him a defenseman, but even I don't hear Wild homers and broadcasters bragging about his defensive skills. What they do brag about is Boogaard's fighting. When Derek first came to the league (or when I first saw him on the TV anyways) the commentators were marvelling how Derek made the NHL and was a "long shot" when first drafted because of his being known more for fighting than anything else. Tell me, when the TV commentators can only talk about Boogaard for his fighting, when his stats show nothing more than PIMs and a few paltry offensive stats, and when the game was on the line late last season Boogaard was NOT dressed, how is Boogaard worth a roster slot if it isn't for fighting?

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=1uP1HRQet-Q

I told you already that his job is to protect the players, every team has one of those guys but if you check out the video of him it shows you that he does not start the fights....all the time

  12. Great hit, not dirty at all. Very unfortunate that Cam's knee got messed up so badly, but Ulfie wasn't trying to hurt him. He was merely trying to make a play. If you want to see footage of a hockey player deliberately trying to injure somebody, look up Derek Boogard and you're sure to find footage of him rearranging somebody's face.

Derek Boogard does not go out with the intent to fight every night. His job is to protect the star players to make sure they dont get hurt and he also is a great agitator, such as your great Ulf Samuelsson is. You said "Ulf Samuelsson played the role of agitator, an important role in the game of hockey. He's the kind of guy you love to have on your team but love to hate when he's on the other team. His style of play served a purpose within the context of the game. If you can't accept that you just don't know anything about hockey." That is excatly what Derek Boogard is, hate him or love him you alway watch out for him. Also you don't know anything about hockey because fighting is apart of it no matter what, guys will remember things and settle them when the time is right.
