True, the Wild were never serious contenders to win the Cup and the Devils just fell off the face off the earth after he left but its hockey, there are no guarantees that one will win a Stanley Cup. Look at the teams that won it while he was in Minnesota, I don't think he would've been on any of the teams that won it (Blackhawks, Kings, Pens, Lightning, and Caps) or played in the Finals.
-
I can't remember what teams were looking to sign him after NJ but how do you conclude that he would've won one? If he resigned with the Devils, he would've been worse off as the Devils were terrible (due to Lou's generosity of handing out bad contracts) after Parise left.
-
Just because he didn't bring the Stanley cup back to Grand Forks doesn't mean much of anything. If you look up where he brought it, you would understand his reasoning for bringing it where he brought it. Carter Rowney didn't bring it back to GF, does that mean he is pissed off at UND?

They couldn't use the nickname in postseason games and it wasn't just national tournaments (because the NCAA wasn't hosting national tournaments on campus any longer), it was also conference postseason games and if they wore them during the postseason tournaments, the NCAA could recoup money from UND. At the end of the day, keeping the nickname wasn't going to be an option once UND couldn't get Standing Rock to approve it.

Having a nickname is so important (for branding purposes) that I can understand why UND wanted to push for a new one, but I think the whole no nickname wasn't long enough. From a branding perspective the fighting hawk logo is very sharp and clean, but it lacks identity like the Fighting Sioux logo. I think more people would've been more receptive to be called the "fighting hawks" if the logo had more identity. To me, the Fighting Sioux logo was ours. It was created by a native and a resident of the great state of North Dakota and now we are stuck with a secondary logo (that logo isn't good to be upfront on anything) that was created by someone outside the state that has no ties to us other than a paycheck.
-
All the other coaches had seemed to get on board with it. I dont have enough fingers or toes to count how many times a hockey player referenced "Fighting Sioux" or "Sioux Hockey" in an interview, when those players had never been associated with the fighting sioux nickname. You never heard anyone from other sports screw up like that. Name changes are hard (especially coming from having the greatest nickname/logo) but if everyone (donors and coaches) embraces it, it can become easier.
-
No matter what, the hockey program was never going to get behind a nickname that wasn't "Fighting Sioux". Berry was one of the worst coaches to help embrace the Fighting Hawks nickname and I think if he had embraced the Hawks nickname there wouldn't be as much complaining from the fans.

It is a pretty exclusive club but getting elected to the hall of fame is done by a committee and no one knows how those will go. So, unless you are a player like Gretzky or Messier, nothing is guaranteed.
-
Honestly, toews isn’t a sure thing in my opinion either. He wasn’t even the best player on his team his whole time in Chicago. When I think of the HoF, I think of players like Gretzky, Messier, Hull, Sakic, Roy, Etc. I would understand if he isn’t in the Hall of Fame.
-
No he shouldn’t be inducted to the HOF.
-
Oshie a HOF? Oshie is a good player, but he is nowhere near a HOF type player. Unless we are renaming the HOF to "Hall of good players".
-
They will release images once UND gets them, which shouldn’t be too long. The Sioux shop has been preparing for this for awhile now by marking down the on ice authentic (and replicas).
-
CCM is the hockey supplier, and the styles have been somewhat leaked already. It looks like the white and blacks will say "Nodak" on them and the green one will say "north dakota", kind of like the nashville/early 90's jerseys.

This is the kind of excitement that our program has been missing. Berry is a good coach/person but you could tell that his recruiting had gotten “lazy” the past few years.
-
I agree, I wouldn't let them skate out for free, as that would set a bad precedent for the league.
-
I've never dug into it but I have read in multiple articles that its $1 million. Is it possible that the exit fee has gone up?
-
little sensitive, aren't we?
-
Geographically, Bemidji State makes more sense, but I would agree that Mankato would be a better option.
-
They are still a full fledge member, so of course they are going to vote on league matters. I think eventually you will see Miami exit the NCHC and go to the CCHA. They really haven't done anything since Rico was let go to show that they are serious about their program. Also, Miami isn't going to pay $2 million because that isn't even what the exit cost is.
-
no, its not. Adam Wodon wrote about it a couple years back when Arizona State was added to the NCHC.
-
I don't recall ever hearing that but that's just me and I've been wrong before.🤣
-
Very slim I'd say. Even though they are looking at building an arena, they still disbanded the program for 2 years and the thought of the program being cut again is there. With Miami wanting out of the NCHC (for various reason), I doubt the NCHC wants to add a program that is still on shaky ground. It would make more sense to add Bemidji State (not saying it would happen) over Alaska anyway.

Ever since Carle pulled his name out of the running for the Blackhawks HC position, I have seen/heard Hakstol's name come up.
-
I doubt it because its separate from UND and the collective is called 1883.
-
No, I had answered it a while ago thief.
