Understood. I just look at the teams Lucia coached, and they had guys that were 1st/2nd rounders that left early due to their development at the UofM.

Recruiting doesn’t suck but how about development? Are NHL teams concerned with how their players are being developed? It’s just a question?

Chaves is screwed no matter what he does. He can't afford to keep Berry but yet he can't fire (not renew him) Berry either. If he fires or lets him walk and Berry goes to a new school and just kills it, you know that will come back to bite him in the butt

I was talking national championship.

How quickly we support this guy who not only a week ago was getting ran through the mud because he "hasn't done anything". I for one thought he was HC material but not at the moment. After hearing him talk, I want to run through a wall for him right now. For clarification purposes, the wall would win!

Hockey is the “premier sport” on campus and can’t figure it out because of “tradition”. I hope football doesn’t make that same mistake twice.

If you go over to the hockey thread I don’t think anyone is happy with the hockey program at the moment.

Yup, bias gets/got the university where it’s at with most athletic programs here at UND. Look at the direction of the hockey program.

If your happy with the foundation that bubba has laid, so be it but I’m not. It’s been a mediocre foundation that’s been okay with winning a few games and getting to the tournament only to lose. I want to see MVFC championships and NCAA tournament wins.

I stand corrected. I thought I had heard something that it had. Maybe it was players already saying that they will enter the portal.

Are you really comparing Jim to those two? I believe both of them were coaches before getting hired at the college level. But those two are much bigger names than Jimmy and bring a much higher recognition to a program.

The portal has closed and all recruits have stayed committed, so it should be business as usual until a coach is named. If what we are hearing is only a few coaches applied, then why wait? but if Chaves has a few other tricks up his sleeve for coaches that are still coaching in bowl games, take your time.

This is 100% true but we shouldn’t expect an immediate national championship. We need to realize that the new coach is building the foundation for continued success in the following years.

What would make him a good coach for UND? Other than he is a football god from North Dakota due to his success as a player, he hasn’t shown (at least that I’m not aware of) any type of credentials as a coach. If they hired him, I’m afraid it would be like when the Gophers hired Lindsey Whalen.

Why do you think deboer’s success was his only? All of his staff had help in making that success happen. One could say that Deboer isn’t having success at Alabama because he doesn’t have some of the same people there that helped him before. SDSU was a complete mess before schmidt got there so im not surprised that he didn’t have immediate success but i am willing to bet that he will be a hot commodity as a HC soon if UND doesn’t hire him. No matter who UND hires, we won’t see immediate success as it will take the HC a full season with players that aren’t his.

Ever since announcing that UND was going to D1, the AD has screwed up. Mussman was not a good hire and Bubba stayed too long. UND needs to get this right.

Can't compare them as it was two different situations/coaches. Berry doesn't have the track record of "turning it around"
