Of course she has an influence on if Berry stays or goes. She pulled her donation at UNLV for “lack of university leadership. You don’t think if Chaves decided to not renew Berry, there wouldn’t be a fit come from her? The only way we are getting a new coach is if Berry steps down on his own accord.
-
He might be trying to win but maybe the game has passed his style of coaching. It happens to all coaches.
-
As a coach if you aren’t coaching to win a national title, then why are you coaching? I wouldn’t want a coach here that runs away from expectations, I want players and coaches who thrive and expect the best out of everyone that comes here.
-
I’m with ya. The current status of the athletic department is not in good shape. I’m happy that our university looks out for its own but at the same time they need to be realistic if they want to be contenders.
-
They have a billion dollar endowment, they have a campus.

I think we are saying the same thing, just different ways. I don’t think hiring Schmidt will solve UNDs problem and I also don’t think hiring from within the UND family is a great idea either. Schmidt will get his in due time. I just don’t want UND to repeat what they did when they had the option to hire Deboer but went with a “family” member instead.
-
I’d suggest looking up what he did at each stop and rethink your comment about his success being on the coattails of Deboer because it wasn’t. However, if you’re going to stand by that comment then you are basically implying that all of Deboer’s assistants success was due to Deboer only. I also don’t agree that the HC job at UND is on the same level as a DC at SDSU.
-
Never said it was going to get him to the pinnacle. What I said was it’s the current HC 2nd and Schmidt’s 1st year and they need time to get their players. I don’t care if you’re Nick Saban, you ain’t turning that program around that quickly. Also, UND still couldn’t afford him UNLESS they take this move seriously. If they want to be a contender, they need to properly fund the program.
-
Times like this I wish Mario was the captain still.
-
It’s his first year in San Diego and the head coaches 2nd year, so I don’t think anyone is on the hot seat at SDSU. Sure, Schmidt could come back (wife from crookston and him being from Mandan) but I don’t think moving down to D1AA his helping him reach the pinnacle of college coaching (and that’s a D1A HC position).
-
Schmidt getting paid more than UND could afford, I doubt he leaves.
-
We won’t be for long.
-
But it’s too early to look at the pairwise!
-
I wasn’t one of those people but I think most people were selfishly angry because of what he could’ve done for this years team. Of course we want all of our players to go to the next level but deep down we want them to stay to help raise another banner.
-
That is 100% the truth!
-
Parity was starting when Hak left? That’s an excuse that most UND fans use to pass the blame because our beloved program isn’t living up to expectations. In the 9 years since Berry has been coach it 5 of the national titles have come from the NCHC, 1 from Hockey East, 1 from the ECAC and covid year.
-
I'm pretty sure most of us know that it isn't possible to win one every year, but I get what you mean.
-
One could say with the talent that has come through they have underachieved, but you could take that back all the way to Hak's teams too. Obviously, majority of fans are happy winning the regular season title but for most of us on here, we see how successful Duluth and Denver have been on a national stage and it sucks. We brag about our facilities and how good our athletes have it over other schools and yet the product on the ice isn't producing results on a national stage.
-
Nick Saban said it best "Do we have show dogs or hunting dogs" Huntings dogs are focused on discipline, commitment, accountability doing the right things and getting better. Show dogs are focused on themselves. Hak had hunting dogs (Berry had hunting dogs very early in his HC career) but now it seems like we have guys who are "show dogs". Hak got 110% out of players who stepped up and understood the task at hand and it seems like Berry isn't great at getting the most out of his players. I sure hope that Berry can get the team to turn it around but at the moment it doesn't look promising.
-
The thing is the team hasn’t played well enough to make anyone believe that they will go on a run. If they have a hard time winning out of conference games, what is going to make us as fans believe they will win conference games?
-
That group on Facebook is nothing but a bunch of whiners and moms who try to protect their adult kids from criticism.
-
Nope not true. When you play non conference games early in the season the pairwise means a lot. As someone posted earlier, Schlossman’s article in March will read something like this “#17 North Dakota would be playing in Fargo this weekend had it not been for the Nov 22nd game against RMU”.
-
I forgot about Erin Andrew’s. Kinda ironic that her (her husband) and Greener are good friends now
-
I don’t think so.
-
I mean he will have to do what’s best for him but with his limited playing time, I’m not sure he will great opportunity.
