I'm checking with Denny's management as well as the city of Bloomington Public Works Department in addition to Kent Hrbek. I'll get back to you all ASAP if I obtain permission from all affected parties.

I think tens of millions of dollars is pretty unreasonable, but if I'm the Russian leagues, of course I'm upset. We're not talking a run-of-the-mill fourth liner with Malkin.

Diggler, was that the winter of 1988-1989 series with Robb Stauber and company? I was five people behind you in line and had to fend off an attack by rabid raccoons followed by an angry group of Mexican killer bees that apparently took a liking to my Sioux jersey. How I made it out of there, I have no idea.

Every once in a while, Doug Woog makes an appearance out there, too. I was able to meet and chat with him last year during the Sunday night Sioux/Mankato WCHA playoff game.

Exactly! It didn't seem to be a big deal with Maurice Clarett cheating and lying his way thru Ohio State (thru no fault of OSU's, of course ) so why would Myles and co. get their undies in a bunch over attendance? Frankly, I'd be more concerned with flying a Confederate flag over the state capitol building in Bismarck than I would over attendance.

Yea...they lost to Holy Angels Academy in the first round.

$200,000 to get this guy out of Russia? I hate to say it, but his Russian team has a point. Given the bidding wars in major league baseball where teams submit sealed bids to Japanese baseball clubs for the rights to "buy" players like Ichiro Suzuki and 'Godzilla,' that's absurd that $200K could buy Malkin.

Sarcastic...but damn that was funny.

sioux7>5, I used to always hear about Joe Senser's in Bloomington but never ventured out for a similar reason...except I don't have the wife to worry about - I just have no other friends who are Sioux fans. I decided to go out and watch the east region games two years ago and was stunned at how many fans from this message board were there. Runninwiththedogs and UMDDogz were there and I've also met siouxguyinstpaul, Yttrium, Bigchief, NorthDakotaHockey, and dagies, amongst dozens of other members from the board. If you're ever debating going out and catching a game, I suggest putting a post on here about it and I GUARANTEE you that someone will invite you to sit with their bunch. You're amongst friends at siouxsports.com.

Speak for yourself! Gopher hockey classy? Fans yelling "sieg heil" and doing the stiff arm salute to passing Sioux fans as they walk to the X? Yea, plenty of mutual respect there. I'd take a D1-AA Bison football fan ANY DAY OF THE WEEK over a typical Gopher hockey fan.

Which is why I brought up the Houston 1836 and the newly-named Houston Dynamo.

How about this one? Maybe a little Spartan history will offend you. A state society that left its weakling infants in the hills to do of exposure as opposed to feeding them. Where is the outcry against Michigan State or San Jose State? Here's a little history lesson for you: Sparta: A Brief History

I just don't see how anyone can look at this picture and see anything offensive about it! What about this? Anyone offended by this given the number of people killed by Rottweiler dogs each year? Do you know anyone who ever died as a result of a rattlesnake bite? You should be offended by this! Does anyone know the real story behind THIS logo? It was first used in present-day Kansas in the late 1850's and was generally associated with lawlessness and theft. Odds are if you're from Missouri, you're offended!

All I'm trying to point out is how 'the other side' could twist those words against you. "Frogs" is offensive to some, so the knee-jerk reaction is to can the nickname. "Sioux" is offensive to some so let's 86 that too. The whole PC thing has gone bananas. A few years ago, I was an assistant coach for youth baseball in Richfield. Teams such as the Yankees, Tigers, Marlins, Red Sox, Twins, Orioles, Dodgers, etc. were the norm. Some parents complained because the "Braves" was offensive. Others complained that kids were being teased because the 'real life-Marlins' were baseball's worst team. Still others complained because everyone wanted to be the Twins since they're the hometown team and everyone hates the White Sox. The end result? Fast-forward to the following season team names (some of them are listed below): Richfield Red Richfield Royal Blue Richfield Green Richfield Orange Richfield Navy Blue Yep, you got it. Team names were banned. Again, this ultra-sensitive world has gone totally mad if a guy can't buy his own team and call it the "Frogs" without fear of offending people. I guarantee you that you can think of a word these days, ANY word, and somewhere, someplace in our society, someone will jump up and scream "I'm offended!".

And please, tell me you weren't offended by THIS: which had to be changed to THIS:

Carlos from "Mind of Mencia" pokes fun at 'beaners' all the time. He also pokes fun of black people, whitey, and even the disabled. Yet people laugh. Is he racist? Couldn't GrahamCracker use your last paragraph (which I bolded for emphasis) as part of his logic for wanting "Fighting Sioux" changed? I find it interesting that you are so offended by the word "frogs" yet ok with UND's nickname. After all, just because you didn't know a name is an insult doesn't mean it isn't, right?
-
You're comparing apples to oranges, Sioux-cia. N-word, Spics, Wops, Hebes, Chinks, etc. are all obviously offensive. Frogs? A frog is a creature with little webbed feet. If this sports team were located in Butte, MT, you'd think it was pretty cool. Making the "French-connection" is a bit of a stretch for me.

I'm THINKING about going to a Gopher game. It's always fun to razz the locals. I went to the 1998 IceBreaker at Target Center and cheered wildly for Michigan against the Gophers that night. The guy sitting behind my friend and me was so annoyed that he actually demanded to see our tickets because he couldn't believe Michigan fans ended up in front of him. My buddy (who flew in from Ann Arbor for the game) turns around, shows him his stub, the guy practically throws it back at him, so he says "See? It's my seat. Now shut your pie-hole. Go Blue!". Hilarity. Ask Greyeagle about the last time he saw me at a Maine/Minnesota game. I ended up on your hallowed Mariucci jumbo-tron sporting my green Sioux jersey and baby blue Maine baseball hat. Good things happened the last time the Gophers played Maine at the X? But I thought Minnesota won the game.

"Frogs" is considered a racist insult EVERYWHERE in North America? Good grief. We're totally coming apart at the seams.
-
Boy, isn't that the truth. I remember a conversation siouxguyinstpaul and I had with a Gopher fan at the 2005 western regional. The fan was wondering why we would drive from Grand Forks to Minneapolis to watch hockey when our team was out in Boston, siouxguy informed him that we both lived in the Twin Cities. His response: "Wow. You guys live HERE? Way to support your team ." Obviously he was trying to imply that by living in the Twin Cities, we somehow should adopt the Gophers as our team.
-
Hey siouxguyinstpaul, I'll be seein' you around the local AWAY venues. I plan on making all of those trips as well.
-
I'll be up there for the Sioux/Maine series, Shawn-O. Considering I typically make the Sioux @ St Cloud, Sioux @ Mariucci, and Sioux @ Mankato games every year, I must pick and choose carefully what games I want to attend in Grand Forks. Not every Sioux fan in Mpls/St Paul can afford to make a road trip to Grand Forks for what shouldn't exactly be a barnburner with a university that most people can't even spell (that being Quinnipiac) or locate on a map.

Are any Sioux fans headed to the X on Friday, October 6th, for the Golden Goopher/Maine game?
