I'm in 101. NDH and I were discussing a post-game Italian Moon (I'm not from EYE-taly, it's It-taly) on Friday night, but me being the good Catholic that I am, I think it might be a better idea for Saturday. It's a shame to waste good dough on pizza sauce and cheese only.

My new authentic white jersey arrived last week compliments of Sioux-cia and Lee's Pro Shop was kind enough to rush-order the customization of it in about a day's notice. I received it back from UPS this afternoon...thinking I'm going to wear it to bed tonite. LSU just beat Duke...man, this is shaping up to be a banner weekend!

9:00 am tomorrow. My bags are packed. I feel like driving tonite, that's how wired I am right now.

Let's come up with something original. I still have fresh in my memory the 1998 loss at Yost to Michigan. I think a cheer of "1998" at the end of the game against Michigan would be appropriate and more funny than the "na na na na"" serenade, which is about as outdated as "the wave."

Couple of things I disagree with here. You try recruiting a kid to come to the HumptyDome vs playing in The Big House, Camp Randall, The Swamp, or Between the Hedges. It's no comparison. Minnesota's quality kids are going elsewhere. Wisconsin turned itself from a doormat into a contender within a few years of Barry Alvarez arriving on the scene. Hell, Northwestern went to the Rose Bowl within recent memory. If it can be done there, it's not impossible in Minneapolis. Secondly, Kevin McHale a quality GM? He's been with the Timberwolves for how long and has exactly two playoff series wins to show for it. Period. Don't give me the bull about how competitive the Western Conference is either. If it wasn't for a miraculous shot by Robert Horry last spring, the Pistons would be the two-time defending champs. Kevin's made his bed with Kevin Garnett...who will wind up like Charles Barkley or Karl Malone. Another note about the Wild...of course they aren't interested in signing big-name players. Why should they? They pack the house at the X every home game. When fans stop showing up, the Wild will be forced to actually put a team on the ice that wins. When there is a waiting list for season tickets and the money is rolling in, why be the New York Knicks when you can keep a cheap payroll and the fans will still come?

We're comparing apples to oranges. Seriously, comparing Bison football to Michigan basketball? You can't base things on attendance alone considering the differences in stadium size. Do you realize that the student body of the U of North Dakota is bigger than Notre Dame? Does that mean UND should make a D-1 jump and play the Fighting Irish next week? C'mon. I think the fact of the matter is, that if you polled people specifically about what sport, pro or college, that brings the state of North Dakota the most attention OUTSIDE the state, most people would not respond with "Bison football," but would say "Fighting Sioux hockey."

It's not exactly crazy how they want this team to be a winner, but, let's face it: The Gophers are going nowhere as long as they're playing in the Metrodome.

2005 Denver/CC? Tickets sold maybe 16,000...actual attendance? Certainly not that. This year's Final Five broke records for every game because it was the first Final Five in recent memory that didn't include Denver or CC. No disrespect to those teams, but the few extra thousand people in attendance compliments of St Cloud, UMD, Wisconsin, and UND would out-total any combination that left out two of those four schools and replaced them with Denver and Colorado College.

On a completely unrelated note and since I couldn't help by notice your avatar, have you been paying attention to the rumors of a major Viking logo and uniform overhaul this season? Supposedly the helmet logo is being replaced. This has got Arizona Cardinals or Cincinnati Bengals written all over it. UGH.

But isn't the Bison football team discussed on every message board from Hofstra to Cal Poly to James Madison to Stephen F. Austin?

If NDSU thinks that by playing the U of Minnesota, the Bison are somehow a 'big-time' program, they have another thing coming. The only home games each year sold out at the Metrodome are the Wisconsin and Iowa games...and that's because 2/3 of the crowd is wearing either crimson and white or black and yellow. Put Notre Dame, USC, Texas, Michigan, Miami, LSU, or Georgia on the schedule, NDSU, and maybe I'll reconsider my assessment.

Well, on the plus side, sagard, had the POI team tied the game up with 15 seconds left in regulation, then gone on to win in OT, it may have sparked a riot in Dinkytown. Great job, Siouxsports team. You guys (and girls) look sharp in those green Pizza Factory jerseys, too, by the way.

This is almost comical. Does anyone care about D1-AA football any more than those lovable folks at NDSU?

Nevermind...I answered my own question. I was somehow thinking it was UNH in 2004 but it was the 2005 Minnesota Gophers.

What other team besides Minnesota and Michigan in 2003 did this?

I hate the jersey pop with a passion, but if Chorney is going to pull a stunt like that again, let's hope he does it when the scoreboard shows the Sioux well ahead and not trailing (as he did last time).
