  1. Hmnnn...I guess we agree to disagree then because I still think of the Wolverines as a national power. You expect Michigan to be in the tournament...and they expect nothing less than that as well.
  2. And only 2 of Michigan's 9 titles occurred while most of us have been alive...does that make them any less of a national hockey power?
  3. Datsyuk was picked 171st...Detroit always finds late-round gems...
  4. I thought he was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers...
  5. Technically Incorrect. The last time the Sioux won a title, each of the two regions had six teams and the top two seeds had a bye meaning one win = Frozen Four berth. You also only had 12 teams vs 16 as the tournament field has expanded.
  6. The OSU Ice Rink is the home of the Buckeye women's team and FORMER home of the men's program. It would be akin to UND having kept old REA open for practice (pre-flood of 1997, of course) or the Gopher men using the women's Ridder Arena.
  7. I like the Gwozzer too...he will most certainly be missed.
  8. I kinda said that, didn't I?
  9. C'mon, Chewey, nothing says 'Pioneers' to me quite like this logo...LOL
  10. Yikes. So much for the great expectations of this season and next season for Minnesota. If everyone for Minny came back next year, wow...that team would be absolutely LOADED.
  11. Players go to Alabama to win national championships...going to the NFL will happen for some, but not all. Players go to UND to make the NHL. Therein lies the problem (in my humble opinion).
  12. Ha! Kind of like the one handed to Tom Osborne by the coaches in 1997?
  13. I've stated this before...recruiting 15 NHL draft picks doesn't make you the best COLLEGE team in the country. Alabama football seems to do alright without NFL caliber quarterbacks... Ask Brian Lawton again how being the #1 overall NHL draft pick worked out for him...
  14. No we didn't. You said it was SPECIFICALLy because he didn't win any national titles. He didn't win any from 1976 until 1993 either but that didn't seem to be a problem. I assume you would have fired him after 'Wide Right II'. He was forced out because Sugar and Fiesta Bowls turned into Gator and Music City Bowls.
  15. Point 1: Dead wrong. From 1987 to 2000, Florida State finished with at least 10 wins and was ranked at the end of the season in the top 5 in the AP coaches poll. it was only after the team's steady decline starting with the 2001 season that ultimately led to his being forced out. Point 2: Mack Brown isn't on the hot seat for not winning national titles...he's on the hot seat for his last three regular season records of 5-7, 8-5, and 9-4.
  16. Maybe you guys are right. Fire Hakstol...and if the next guy can't get it done in two years, fire him too. Then the bar becomes anything LESS than a Frozen Four appearance every single year is grounds for automatic termination. Would that make the 'we're North Dakota...we DESERVE a national title so go get us one NOW' crowd?
  17. We're North Dakota. We recruit future NHL players. We have the best arena in the world. We have the best fans in the history of hockey. We're ENTITLED to sit in the stands and watch teams win national championships, right? You know what's funny about the 'fire Hak' crowd? I have yet to hear a name suggested of someone who they think would do a better job...and who would take it. I recall Dean Blais being hired as coach? Who? A HIGH SCHOOL COACH? A former Gopher player? He can't handle the pressure...this is COLLEGE hockey. Now he's some sort of god to some people at UND even though UNO has done nothing in his tenure there. So let me get this straight...we want to FIRE a coach based on his present record of not winning titles and re-hire a FORMER coach based on his success 10-15 years ago? Why not talk to Gino while we're at it, after all, he knows national championships too.
  18. How interesting to bring up Florida State football and Texas football while making your points about changes being made in a program if national championships don't happen. Now let's look at some facts: Bobby Bowden was the coach of Florida State from 1976-2009. During that time, he won exactly TWO national championships, 1993 and 1999. Mack Brown is the coach of the Texas Longhorns and has been since 1998. He has won ONE national championship, in 2005. Their last title was in 1970, obviously without Mack Brown there. What was your point again? Are you suggesting that Bowden should have been canned long before 2009? Fire Mack Brown?
  19. Respectfully disagree. UND had this game in the bag at 2-0 and Yost Arena reduced to cricket-chirping. Aaron Schweitzer played very well in relief of Goehring and the 3-2 loss could hardly be blamed on 'problem' goaltending. I was there...it was an incredibly well-played hockey game. The X factor was Yost and the crowd that came to life when the score was 2-0 and Michigan potted a goal. I thought the roof blew off the building and just KNEW Michigan was going to come back and win. NoDak beats Michigan 6-1 if that same game would have been played in Grand Forks...regardless of who the Sioux goalie was. The sight of Jason Blake leading the team off the ice afterward is one I won't forget. Stunned.
  20. I've got to think that Tom Anastos was told improvements in Spartan hockey will be made next year...or else. That team was dreadful this season.
  21. Actually, I'm pretty sure the Mercyhurst game was against Michigan at Yost. I seem to recall predictions of 12-0 or 14-0 and if memory serves me right, the actual final was 5-4 Wolverines.
  22. It seems to me that BC has had plenty of role players in the past as well...
  23. Judd coached the hockey team too?
